Meh, the Honda commercial was better. Granted, it was made by a professional firm, but it was still better.

It says right at the start it's a montage. We should probably contact him and ask him to pun in "this video is made with savestates and rerecords" in white letters across the bottom quarter of the screen periodically throughout the movie to avoid any confusion...

Very cool, editing makes the action move faster.

If you liked that movie, you'll love: http://youtube.com/watch?v=IvqvWh6XQA8 and http://youtube.com/watch?v=kBwtsBsrJvM&mode=related&search= A lot of creative stuff. My favorite is the one with the two magnets on the table and the ball tracing the magnets. Be warned, though: you might want to turn the sound off: I feel 10 times gayer having listened to that music.

Just because it's cut doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't continuous. It's certainly possible to do all that continuously. Of course if it was continuous he would have needed at least two cameras, but that's not even difficult.

He did use a community center to set it up and shoot it, so it's possible it was 1 long run.

If it was one long run, I think he would have followed it the entire time with one camera, so there would be no question, in order to multiply the awesomeness of the movie.

Hmmm, check this out then: http://youtube.com/watch?v=1kvdq8cRNBM It's some crazy Japanese's idea of a Rube Goldberg device... I won't spoil it for you... just sit through the 6 minute of it to get a surprise at the end

If any of you had read the comments, you would know that, indeed, it was done in segments, in a medium-sized studio. The primary purpose of doing it in segments was lack of space, but it also allowed him to recreate any segments that failed to go off properly.

Hmm...apparently the two vids I posted were (more than likely) shorts of a Japanese kids show similar to Sesame Street. What a rip...they get some of the coolest Rube Goldberg machines of all time, and we get a fucking grouch in a trash can.

I'll take this over poor imitations of the Honda commercial any day of the week ... though I do love that catchy recorder tune!

Poor imitations? They were awesome to the nth power. I don't remember those characters from Sesame Street at all. All I remember is that I never liked it, even when I was a little kid. Although that segment was definitely humorous.

Oh... those are from a Japanese Kids show called Pythagorean Switch. It carved a name out for itself after featuring Rube Goldbergs every episode. Haha, its the only kids TV show that I know fansubbers are releasing over IRC lol

I love that show...it often airs in bite-size format, featuring a short machine and maybe some dancing. Also a big fan of the "dad control," where a child makes a "remote control" for their father and makes them do things.

BUMP - Found a "best of" clip on YouTube. The sound desyncs towards the end but there's lots of fun things here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XyWWQaW-ZU Searching YouTube for ピタゴラスイッチ reveals lots of different clips. My favorite is this "algorithm march."
