some random FAQ? Way to take the wind outta my sail :) Nice job, though - always loved the game. I can appreciate your efforts, seriously - getting Armadillon to come out of the ball each time must have been impossibly tedious. Much better than the previous submission - the first manhole especially is much better. And as for "Mario with a sword," I don't see anyone complaining about ANY Mario runs being constantly optimized - I'd say this is a tribute to the game. Good job - yes vote.

Can't think of a good reason not to publish this - looks better and is almost 3 minutes faster. Nice work.

I don't understand why so many people are voting yes. The mistakes are many and obvious.
Well, the voting system isn't perfect, but we're not the official judges. When I submitted my way flawed 1-item metroid run on two occasions, I got about 20 yes votes and 7 no votes. I think 27 no votes would have discouraged me from trying again, even though I found out after submitting that it could be done about 5 minutes faster. Regardless of votes, the comments say it all, and Xebra never shys away from his brutal honesty ;). I think most people here voting yes are voting to the glitches and routes used by blitzag and genisto over the route by gigafrost. Now that I've seen both, it's pretty apparent to all that gigafrost moves better with the glitch and they've decided to re-do it. And just like that, 16 yes votes don't mean much. It sounds to me like a good ol' fashioned partnership is forming - you guys together could put together one hell of a run.

I had a trip down amnesia lane today, watching the first time-attack video I ever saw again. However, when I was searching for it, I found a serious overabundance of message boards downplaying the hype with claims of video editing (ironic that everyone was searching for any sign of cheating considering the nature of the video). I had almost forgotten how controversial this was when it first came out. But my question is, was the video actually edited at all, or was it just a normal time-attack like the hundreds here?

I just really dig the warping. I think watching Gigafrost glitch through every palace gets old. How fast can this movie get? Under 7 minutes? That would be sick. Is Gigafrost working on a warping-ish version too?

Well, people, I suppose this is where we differ - finding a glitch like this is one thing, but making it work for you is something else. While I'll admit it's difficult to follow what's going on, there are insane warps all over the place combined with lightning fast movement. It's Zelda II in under 8 minutes, for schneike's sakes! The fact that he did pulled this off to me is entertaining. It reminds me of being a child and finding a glitched world in a game, wandering around, trying to find a way out for advancement (like the hilltops in Rygar), all the while convinced this was a programming Easter Egg. I certainly don't think this should obselete anything, but yes, it's worth publishing.

Notably a SMB3 video which didn't get any extra lives in the autoscrolling stages. Just out of curiosity, how did that speed the movie up?

Also, with patience, it is possible to avoid all overworld enemies, no?

It's right. But the current published video covers all those bases, so I don't see why it's necessary to have one that's glitchy too. I think one glitch video under 10 minutes would suffice. Again, just my opinion.

Gigafrost is using the glitch better and you're finding better ways to use it - and that made the least sense out of anything I've ever said. Seriously, though, to optimize this glitch, like everyone said, you'll need better jumping tactics, but there's some stuff you do that Gigafrost doesn't (like beat the game in under 10 minutes). I have a feeling the competition is on. A hybrid video is going to be the sweetest thing ever. Obviously a no vote, but this is going to be nice. And, as mentioned, I would recommend this be a separate video like Rygar.

Who would want to watch that twice? Man this game is awful. But I agree with BoltR - it seems as though sometimes clocks are right in front of you and you miss them and some are out of the way and you get them. The same goes for the enemies. I know we're not supposed to judge re-record count, but 203 for a twenty minute movie seems a bit light (if it's accurate), regardless of difficulty. You might want to see if there are any decent tricks you can pull off on the skateboard or something. Vote: Meh

Well, you'd have to get a pretty lucky extended underwater spawn. You sure this can be done with a power level of 3? EDIT: Nevermind - I just dug out my first time-attack in which I gain a power level of 3 and beat him in one session with harpoons, but it was tight. But you're absolutely right - it can be done. One thing that I've pulled off is getting to power level 3 with only 2 encounters and the bonus scene. Avoiding the 3rd is really difficult, but it's possible - there's no skill that will help you, however. A sub 5 minute time should be possible, though, by only getting 2 encounters and the bonus scene before increasing your levels, followed by attacking Jaws. I'll keep trying. The world record of this game really sucks at 6:39 - not unbeatable at all (and the record holder likes to send me hate mail).

I misunderstood as well - I agree, once something is granted a star, it shouldn't be taken away. But again, nominating a star is something we can do now. I remember seeing someone posting "I think this should get a star" in the NES games forum. It doesn't need to happen for every video, but for the ones that really stand out, anyone can start the discussion.

The decisision would still lie with the judges. It would simply open the discussion. Yet, there's nothing here now that prevents people from starting such a topic, so I think it's just fine. If someone wants to recommend a star, they can just start a thread about it and everyone can throw in their opinions. As for the video, FODA, great job - definite yes. (I still don't think it's necessary, however, to have a run for track 1 and this track 6 run - this one covers everything.)

mikwuyma: He spawns on the opposite side of the screen as you. I had to be right of the center to get him to spawn on the left. EDIT: feticlub: I seem to remember a version of this game where Kenshiro couldn't die (possibly the Japanese). When the life bar ran out it refilled itself - but I could be wrong.

YES! You made the robot dance - I was hoping for a Cheez/AxeMan hybrid video and all my wishes come true.

Ugh - sorry, but no, and it's not entirely your fault. A cook is only as good as his ingredients. I'm not sure you can make this one pretty.

if the game is boring, the movie can't be fun.
I'm not so sure this is true - a game may not necessarily be fun to play but it all depends what you make out of it. I'm currently doing a run for Fist of the North Star, an exceptionally boring game, but it's coming out really nice to watch. We'll see, I suppose.

You should watch the current vid - a second player can finish the game, just not play on level 11.

Yeah - backwards from what it is right now. Anything else might seem redundant.

Here's the dilemma I'm looking at. There are several possibilities for completing this game, and as discussed many times, there are several possibilities for completing any game, with or without warps. SMB1 is simple to calculate - speed with warps and speed without. So, there's not too much else except for points, which is lame, so I won't mention it (oops). Contra is another good example - single player and multiplayer runs would each be fun to watch. Metroid touches on the complicated side a bit - pure speed, 100%, bossless, and 1% runs have all been performed. I believe it was decided that a bossless run was redundant, so it was deemed the new pure speed run, pending the release of a faster speed run. And here we are with Battletoads. The problem here is that we're looking at the same stages with the same battles over and over again. With Metroid, you have different routes, with SMB, you have everything and not everything, with Contra...well, Contra's just too cool to have too many runs. But after the first couple of stages, Battletoads turns into a memorized obstacle course rather than distinguishable, varying levels of fighting. The bonus with this run is the pure speed - because of the 2nd player bug on level 11, the two player run can't possibly be faster than the single player run, even with twice the fighting power on the bosses. So, a single player, warping run is the fastest possible route for finishing the game, and therefore worth publishing. That said, for aesthetics and randomness, I think it's important to watch (in any game) how two players can work together to accomplish the same goal, and it's mucho fun-o to watch one player throwing the other around like a rag doll. Because this would be more of a visual demonstration, more fun to watch than exciting, it doesn't matter how fast it is and would be even more fun to explore every level in the game - especially in a game like Battletoads, which incorporates every possible game mechanic under the sun. So, in a nutshell, I'm voting "Yes" for this, but with hopes that the categories for Battletoads are set in stone with the following two categories: 1-player, warping 2-player, warpless Sorry that got long.
