Really glad this TAS made its way to TASvideos. I caught this on YouTube a while back and was impressed with the craftsmanship of the playthrough. I know changing from the carrier view to the helicopter view reduces lag from all of the explosions and effects, but then you don't get to see anything that makes the game fun. I think that's a fair trade off. Yes vote!

No I already got it working well before I submitted the other three. White Chamber's just the shit one out of all 4 of them.
Ah, gotcha. White Chamber happens to be my favorite of the four, haha.

The author's notes are a bit cryptic as to whether or not they plan on TAS'ing White Chamber. So I'm going to assume they might not know how to get the game to work. There are two SWF files that comprise White Chamber, titled "main21.swf" and "start.swf". You need to have both of these files in the same local directory and then run start.swf. White Chamber should then run natively in a Flash projector/player program etc. I have both .swf files for White Chamber uploaded here in case you need them: http://gator.co/secretstash/ Hope this helps! Would love to see a TAS of the 4th game!

feos and I have been talking via PM and they've requested I share some of the improvement insight I had for this run here:
I would say maximum upgrades would still be optimal as each of the upgrades overall would save enough time/frames compared to just barreling through the races at TAS speed. Wheels reduce the effect of terrain, shocks reduce the effect of bumps/pits, and top speed/accel are self-explanatory. The submission doesn't quite show this, but each of the races has an item spawn that is optimal and easy to pick up with little to no time loss. Combining this optimal placement with manipulation to obtain only money bags early on would theoretically allow for $250,000 ($150,000 for 1st place + $100,000 in pickups) per race which factors out to max stats after just 7 races. Then, through manipulation from the 8th race onward to only spawn Nitro powerups you can get 10 Nitros per race and win $150,000 for coming in first, which means 99 Nitros can be obtained in 4 races and you save 10 frames each race for having collected the Nitro during the race as opposed to spending money buying them between races. From there it would just be a matter of blasting through races with a maxed out truck until you finished race #35, Volcano Valley. Getting to race 35 would take slightly longer than the current submission, but I feel like the runner picked this route because this is currently the only community-accepted run type for the game. Hope this helps! :)
This run is definitely improvable big time, but it's a great start for a great game!

Yeah I mean how do they compare if we consider the possible timing difference? TASes count from power on, real-time runs use to count from gaining control on the... car in this case?
Ah, my apologies. Time for unassisted runs begins the moment the "S" fade out begins after entering your name.

How many stages does this run beat? And how is its time compare to the unassisted record?
I didn't count in the TAS but it ends less than 21 stages into the run, as stage 21 is Cutoff Pass which is where my route used to end. The current WR for this game is 13:56, held by geiken.

There are 16 tracks in the game each with 4 permutations for a total of 64 total tracks. (Forward/Backward and Forward/Backward with hay bales.) The reason I didn't go with 64 tracks was because you will start to see duplicates before you reach the 64th level. I forget the exact number, but you won't see the final "original" track until 70-something levels have passed.
Do you know at what point the final unique (named) track appears? I think that would be a good stopping point for a 100% run, while I would agree with your rationale of "99 Nitros, Max Upgrades" for any%.
Volcano Valley is the last "new" course encountered in the game. It is the 35th stage.

Long time lurker here, hopefully I can shed some light on this run. I was one of the first people to bring Super Off Road to the speedrunning community and my run from Extra Life 2013 is the one where I laid out the "rules" for the speedrun that have become the community standard. I went with "Max Upgrades, 99 Nitros" because at that point there is nothing left to do in the game (other than race on tracks you haven't seen yet). The track pattern is fixed, it is not RNG. Item spawns are "random" but in a TAS I am certain they can probably be manipulated. The location they appear in is chosen at random from about 2-4 different possible locations per track. Some of them are better than others (e.g. on "Redoubt About" the item spawns in the upper right which is not optimal, there is a far more optimal spot on the inside of the large turn.) The reason the runner goes with Tire upgrades first instead of Top Speed is because upgrading tires reduces the effect that different kinds of terrain has on your truck, so it's an overall better time save through efficiency of your vehicle rather than blasting at maximum speed and getting slowed down by water and sand. That said, it's an honor to see a speedrun category I came up with get the TAS treatment. Kudos jmosx36! :)

I loved this game as a kid, so nice to see my old favorites starting to pop up on TASvideos.

Neat glitch but I don't think it's particularly fascinating or entertaining to see. From a quirky standpoint sure, but from a TAS standpoint it just seems a little lackluster. (Also good to know Treyarch was producing crap games long before Call of Duty.)

"Meh" vote because you didn't pick the bestest and greatest Nicktoon of all time: All Grown Up. Everybody knows a played out spin-off of a kids' cartoon with a terrible theme song is the best way to go, not some long-running tongue-in-cheek pop culture referencing animated series. Hmph.

Was having 4 lives and 20 gems (4:20) intentional on the autoscrolling cliff stage? :P

I love imagining what the hero must be thinking when the dragon at the end appears and he just starts whipping out glasses left and right. :P

Oh, man this game was my CHILDHOOD. I got this game with a bunch of other clearance stuff a long time ago and out of all of that junk was this special diamond in the rough. I remember I was pumped when there was a submission here that completed the bonus rounds and I couldn't wait until someone TAS'd the whole game. A 100% would be amazing too, but for now this totally gets a Yes from me! :D I love all the trickshots you do with items. This really is just brilliant! Totally blew my mind with how quickly you tossed all those coins in Badger Mill 2, and in Badger Mill 1 I laughed when you inexplicably threw the treasure chest into the oven. :P Also the fact that Halitosis the fire dragon lives in an ice world called Fire Heart is hilarious.

Great TAS! I love MM10, and 9 as well. Back when they were first announced I was super excited and it's great to see them so expertly done. I too think it's a great ironic choice for a first Wii TAS.

A very compelling reason to vote no, I must agree. But I can't even vote so I give a verbal and nearly unintelligible grunt as my vote!

Lately I've been having difficulty connecting to the tasvideos bittorrent, I attempted a forum search for "tracker status" (and a site search) but couldn't find any information on the subject, so I'm not sure if it's a problem on my end or not. In the past I have not had difficulty connecting and downloading. I know some websites require you to maintain an upload as well as a download, every TAS I've downloaded on this computer I continue to seed afterward, so I know if that was an issue it shouldn't be bothering me right now. I cannot connect to the tracker (Connecting tracker to say Start, waiting for response) either to upload or download. Last night one of my seeds managed to connect at 0kb/sec but it lost connection soon thereafter. I've connected to both my home network and university and both are unable to connect. (I'm using BitLord as my tracker of choice.) edit: I have 3 seeds from Speed Demos Archive that seem to be able to connect. None of the tasvideos seeds are connecting.
