has anyone tried to see if you can manipulate the AI? can you move left then right, or are you stuck going left once you press it? IIRC you can decelerate, but I don’t know if that’d be helpful in a speedrun (or if it’s being used while turning already)

I thought this was just a cheating April Fools run, but it’s actually legit? wow, interesting

there's a lot more potential. Waiting for Big Boo to turn visible and for Bowser to come back? That's boring. Poke their timers and make them respawn immediately! Ordinary level/game end sequences? Poke into VRAM and rewrite the messages to something funny!
I agree with this, it could be published as a playaround, right?

Or what if the input file was X frames late on one of the emulators? It's the same input, except you started one console a frame late - horrors, a desync! - but wait, it still works!
That is technically still different input.
I don’t think it does… but yeah the idea of different versions of the same game was the same as what I thought

this looks very entertaining, couldn’t a run be published along these lines? is there one already?

FaschZ, since you’re a speedrunner, couldn’t you just run the game once on emulator to unlock T.T. and have that as the verification movie? I’d expect you to be able to create that faster than anybody else on this forum

A run with a completed file will be NOT accepted and if they would, a verification movie is going to be needed and nobody wants to do that crap anyways...
Wouldn't making the verification movie take a small fraction of the time the polished TAS would take?
isn’t he right in saying that it wouldn’t be accepted, though? wasn’t that the reason why Swordless’s run was rejected? the fact that you need a completed save file to transfer over data with a glitch

breaks the rules, and also looks like it hasn’t been optimized at all, I bet a human runner could do better

question: that fat guy before the Union Cave, is it slower if you talk directly to him from the left instead of making him talk to you?

the 3lap was impossible in Polt, but I’ve at least set a new fast lap record https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YAN1xosVws

Newgame+ is a good idea, it makes the run faster, so why not using it?
that’s a magnificently terrible, terrible reason…

Get in! Someone encode this please. Although, for a 3-D game, the rerecord density is very low... is the rerecord count accurate?
No every other day I used a new file which was a rookie mistake. it should be near 80,000 rerecords from the past two months.
in cases such as these I’d be for manually editing the number to correct it, otherwise it’s misleading

Who are you to say that there won't be anyone interested in working on such run? Can you see into the future?
do you not know how to read? the ellipsis mean that I was uncertain

the realtime Super Metroid community has divorced runs that use GT Code into its own categories as well for the exact same reasons, so one would assume that the TAS community would do the same.

I don’t like this “screw the rules, it’s entertaining” mentality. that’s completely arbitrary and is bound to bite us back in the future if the run is possible even without the use of the code, why even use it in the first place? sure it’s faster, but that’s a given considering the fact that you’re using a cheatcode

Monkey Ball games don't have RNG in the engine but for some reason, entering a stage at a different frame usually gives different output with the exact same input. Sometimes some stages might sync.
have you checked whether it’s an issue about lag frames? you should post the movie file for the improved levels, someone may be able to make it sync
