haha, I can’t believe this run is getting shit from some people Snake was obviously played just to demonstrate that the coding was legitimate, and not just a screen with 2 options that did nothing; it wasn’t played up to the end because the focal point of this TAS is reprogramming the game through controller input, not wasting viewer’s time to TAS a Snake game which could probably be done in a much more entertaining way on an actual original Snake game

oh, so it’s stuff completely irrelevant to the TAS, that’s good then yeah using Funky Kong shouldn’t be a problem

how do you even unlock Funky normally? if you have to unlock like half of the game just to get him, then what’s the point? using Bowser or MB+Daisy (assuming those are available at start) wouldn’t make much of a difference and don’t forget that for GP mode you’ll have to manipulate items, it’s not the same as TTs; so even without Wiimote Input or whatever, starting a test run to see how the whole manipulation deal works would be a good idea and, are David or Lukas in on the run? if not you’re probably gonna have a hard time manipulating RNG when you’ve never TAS’d with RAM addresses before edit: I forgot about your recent Paper Mario TAS, so I guess you got some experience with RAM watch now

^that encode made me notice, does 1 Max Repel really not account for the whole Pokémon Mansion, now that Blizzard is skipped? even if it didn’t last for the whole period, you could probably walk some squares without triggering a fight… is that still not enough for 1 Max Repel? I’m really loving this run for some reason and want to see it kept getting improved upon

is it me or does the TAS avoid input to “end” sooner and let the AI kill itself? if so, I really disliked that, I’d much rather have a longer input time but a shorter ending time

I’ve already discussed getting Bulba/Char with David, but Squirtle is still needed to learn Surf anyway (and is also faster than the other 2 starters even if Surf wasn’t an issue, probably); although you do bring up points we didn’t consider (Gyarados) one thing that’s improvable though is using a male character, NPCs call you stuff like “lass” if you’re female which is longer than “lad” or whatever

lmao “got it” how did he get those 3 messages in the beginning as if it were a new game, but then suddenly the game seemed to be into 120-stars mode?

I just thought of a little thing that could be faster… no way to manipulate the wild encounters so that you’re facing a wall/something to do the bumping speed trick against after capturing them? like the Abra, instead of facing to the left, if you were faced up (to the wall) you could’ve used the speed trick; there’s no seed to help achieve this? awesome run so far, Clefable’s power is surprising edit: also a question I always had: why do you walk when you pass by trainers that change their facing direction instead of running past them? it doesn’t look like walking helped you get a better timing at all… is it RNG manipulation?

thanks for the reply :) have you tried my RPG boss strategy? I think it’s slower, but testing it would still be good “However, the rotating spike will stop you to climb ladder, so this can't save time.” you’re right, my bad :P though I’m sure jumping down the 2nd hole is faster, spikes don’t kill you there “After I tried many times in the final fight, I can't stop the boss earlier during the first time she comes. When face she, she will come close until I move out of the front of her, so I think she just follow when I move away that change her action, and if move earlier may lose more time.” no, I have done better than your TAS without tools (only missed one shoot) as can be seen here: http://www.twitch.tv/tpc_streaming/c/3457948 unless I’m misunderstanding how it works… edit: actually I miss 1 shoot at first, but then 2 more, I didn’t even notice… though that’s after she goes back, so I think it should be possible to manipulate her in a way to always hit her did you miss 3 shoots or 4 in your TAS by waiting?

having just beaten this game, I feel like I can comment on the TAS I was pleasantly surprised most of the time, but to me it looks like acceleration wasn’t properly optimized in the first boss fight (the ball-throwing) and once in the water level (when he hits a wall to get past rotating spikes); I could be wrong, though also my strategy for the RPG-like boss fight was different, I wonder which is faster? mine is: #1: Hide, Defend, Attack #2: Magic, Attack, Attack #3: Hide, Explode, Jump #4: Hide #5: Magic, Explode edit: after checking, mine is probably slower :( guess there won’t be a sub 10′ then in the final level, on the 3rd screen, I wonder if jumping into the holes would be faster than simply letting yourself fall? (better vertical acceleration) also, I’m pretty sure the final boss is improvable with better pattern manipulation, when she charges at you (and the TAS stops shooting because she comes too close), it’s possible to manipulate her to stop early so that you can keep shooting at her; although this only happened randomly to me and I don’t know how to replicate it well, those are my comments, maybe with some luck they could help bringing the time below 10 minutes? oh btw, I played version 1.02 side note: when you beat the game while collecting all diamonds, you unlock EX Mode, which is basically hard mode; should the TAS maybe be done on that mode instead and use a save to have it unlocked? although I don’t know what the changes are, I haven’t beaten EX mode (in the first level the only change I noticed was a pretty irrelevant +1 enemy)

Also, since I have 5 pokemon now, depositing pokemon before the elite four is faster by 9 frames. I still didn't do it because RNG was way worse for metronome.
sad :( I would’ve liked to see this trick incorporated in the run

did you do this part correctly? :P

IIRC it is faster to talk to the first grunt as in mkdasher's run, then go straight up the left side, letting the second grunt walk over.
and did you use Metronome at all?

I really don’t believe the primary goal was “time” I’m sure that there are loads of situations where spamming the exact same move will result in faster times, but this TAS is extremely varied and clearly trying for entertainment, not speed shouldn’t speed be the secondary goal?

Thanks
“Ending After you kill the level 6 boss (or level 4 boss), the end of the level does not trigger. The "Fixed" from fixes this bug.” I don’t think that last phrase makes sense? also the publication text says “force the game to start from level 5 on reboot.” shouldn’t that be “power on”, and not “reboot”?

people need to stop with this attitude of every TAS being perfect… in the description it says that he made 4000 re-records for over half an hour of video, there is no way in hell that’s optimized (and it doesn’t look so either); the input isn’t even reused at the start of the first level the second time entering it, but is remade and looks slower than the first time didn’t bother watching more, actually optimized single-shine runs are far more entertaining to me

^is that basically Start+Selecting while loading a bonus, entering any level, losing the bonus and then beating the level? (may not recall accurately) does it give you freedom of movement on the map, or does it shoot you upwards? even if it gave freedom of movement, I don’t think it’d help much because the next levels are still all hidden until you get to them…
