http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0PwmIs80UE Probably everyone really interested has already seen this, but it makes 1 star possible apparently. This will end up being faster than the N64 run! Also I think using this improvement will be the biggest improvement of a well made run in such a short time.
I think MKDasher plans on redoing the TAS using it. I’m not sure. he redid the outside saving 48 frames with a new strategy, and saved some frames in SSL too (that’s the 1 star you take for the route). I ended up joining him and saved 4 frames over his attempt in SSL using a completely different strategy, but I didn’t plan on doing a 1 star TAS. why is this happening I think we might work some more on the SSL star, not satisfied yet. before trying the 1 star route I really wanted to test glitching the 8 stars door rather than what that guy does, I hope I get the time to do that before MKDasher ends up finishing the movie

is it possible to TAS the microphone? if it is I don’t get how in hotkey config there’s a Microphone key, but holding it down gives me less boost than what I can get on my real DS…

Is the run-through-water glitch from the beginning possible in the N64 version, or is it due to the physics changes of the game/Yoshi?
I answered that some posts back, but basically that glitch has been known to SM64 TASers for years so they’d have used it if it worked in SM64 I got all the cheats together and TAS’d half the swimming, I can’t be sure of anything as I’m not comparing it but it looks a ton better than what we had O_o hopefully I save something (and hopefully it’ll synch) edit: saved 22 frames over MKDasher’s latest effort :) I love hacking… OH GOD LET’S HOPE IT SYNCHS

I’m currently working on hacking the f*k out of the first bunny glitch, to get the easiest possible outcome for TASing it, and see if with that we can improve the swimming a little bit, if it turns out we can’t save more we’ll submit what MKDasher got already

That's weird. Your "Y inside" and "Y velocity inside" were different, but everything else was identical. Edit: Oh, "Z inside" was different too.
yeah but I “answered” that in the edit, I was 1 frame too early in the bottom screen, advancing once made the position synch edit: actually nevermind, the frames were correct… but the position didn’t synch O_o edit2: it’s dumb… the position desynchs and resynchs a few frames later continuosly…

http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/5309/immagine21s.jpg does anyone know why such a desynch would happen? I could understand the rabbit (RNG?) but even the water? anyway, as you can see we were saving 516 frames… but to synch the glitch MKDasher lost 2 on purpose, so 514 atm edit: oops, took the screen 1 frame early for the bottom screen… but it’s a lag frame so the picture’s the same

Is getting the free star from Toad in the Hazy Maze Cave entrance really slower than any of the other 8 stars?
you can’t get it with Yoshi

How easy would this route be to replicate without TAS tools? In particular, are the sequence-breaking glitches frame-perfect, or are they possible by hand with a bit of retrying and experimentation?
the bunny glitches are pretty much impossible and we don’t know how we even got them but there are vids of people doing them on DS (or was it the same person?), if you’re lucky enough and use different placement for the bunnies, it can be done (afterall, you get unlimited tries for the bunnies after you grab them into position) the endless stairs skip is super easy, and the outside castle glitch should be doable with the right setup edit: desynchs everywhere :(

I know you're improving that as we speak.
yeah, we were able to save around 500 frames over the current submission, but sadly the first bunny glitch desynched… we’ll try to redo it then re-hex it, hoping there won’t be any more desynchs, if there are it could take some days to fix everything

^that’s slower, actually. 4 frames slower probably due to the fact that you have so little acceleration, moving towards other directions doesn’t affect much, but it does rise speed so you can do a SK/LJ earlier, making it faster

you can’t kill Bowser with Yoshi, so no it’s possible to beat Bowser in BitS with Wario and Luigi, but the game just freezes after you collect the star IIRC edit: MKDasher found a way that makes the positioning problem non existant, but it’s slower. (pressing B 2 frames before getting HP) edit2: nevermind it’s faster lol

actually, sorry to Mister Epic and the others but we won’t upload the encode to YT since there is a 5+ seconds improvement in the work, we’ll need a new encode… @Comicalflop: they’re different games, and that’s all I have to say edit: for the glitch, you need a motion angle from 5328–8191 (and obviously falling in line with the water’s surface, or you get HP / fall into it)

I think you’re underestimating the glitch, it’s hardly a matter of “hitting around that area”, the area is extremely precise (water surface’s line) and the angle must also be correct to glitch inside the wall, so far I wasn’t able to get anything while MKDasher went straight ahead against the wall just to be bounced back, and did a try from the top but couldn’t glitch inside the wall probably due to angle, since he had top speed I think our best bet is climbing up the waterfall with SKs and trying the glitch from above, again

I only watched the first part of the run because the emulator is too slow for me to want to continue, so I'll wait for the video before finishing. Why did you do a mini heaven's portal in the castle grounds before doing the uberglitch? You could definitely slidekick all the way up that hill before doing the uberglitch, I'm positive the mini heaven's portal is not necessary.
…we didn’t think of that, what a dumb mistake :/ we’ll try to get it and see if it synchs, it should save about 5 seconds edit: should be faster to climb up the waterfall instead wow this’ll take time, now we need to test if the glitch is possible from the waterfall :S

I prefer adelikat’s version with hitbox abuse, I think this should be rejected edit: though that route change adelikat talked about could be interesting…

^none of the glitches were discovered by us, I think all of them are quite old and I have no idea who found them first. maybe MKDasher knows @Mister Epic: thanks for the encodes :) but instead of privately sending them to us, I just thought that posting the link here would be more helpful for people that have been waiting the encode

Huh... desmume-cli doesn't play the movie, GTK+ desmume either segfaults upon startup or hangs when opening the movie by UI. Oh well, gotta wait for an encode, I guess...
I have no idea what those are but the version we used was 0.9.7, as mentioned in the submission page

One question, though: How does the BitS skip work exactly?
I can’t find the video. when MKDasher is back online LOL HE JUST CAME ONLINE RIGHT NOW sorry I just couldn’t delete this post it was too funny anyway we used texture hacks for all the star door skips, TASing in blackness is kind of impossible

Huh, doesn't want to play back properly for me. I'm looking at the input and it looks like you press things before they can be pressed? Either that, or I don't have the right ROM/have a setting that needs to be changed (yes, I have Advanced Bus-Level Timing ON)
no idea… emulator, ROM and the only emu setting I thought was necessary is written in the submission page input starts with stylus being held down for many frames, since you can do that to get the input as soon as possible
