just thought of one thing: can't you do Naval Forces first and glitch Fog of War? or do you not get access to Design Map unless you beat it?
also… sorry, but, it should still be improvable…
notice that I moved 1 unit less, everything else is the same, moving that Inf in the 1/2HP Rockets range shouldn't be required

can anyone understand the RNG? 0216E2B4 because I can't
I've found an approximately 25 frames improvement to C1, by triggering Rachel's "you moved all your units!" dialogue while inside the Tank's exploding animation, making me able to skip it without wasting time… problem is, I'm getting very shitty luck after that, and I can't even beat the map in 3 days, because my Tank gets attacked to 7HP

^oh I see, that map can be won in 4 days by rout btw, I have a video of D4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hyl2MT5uP6Y
did I forget or did we not talk about the NC goals? should it be always 300pts, fastest real time, fewest number of turns or a mix of them? oh also, should it get the 3 secret maps? personally I think since the entire movie will be 1 hour or so going for fastest real time, without secret maps would be better
edit: hey guys, news: every single TAS I made up to now is shit. why? because stylus sucks, and I've been using only that the whole time, buttons are 1 frame faster on almost every single action you can make :|

I think this run badly needs an improvement
if I ever get to finish AWDS, I might try it myself, a problem is that I've never done anything related to GBA emulation though, so I might be bad at it, not to mention that cursor movement optimization thing makes no sense to me

oh my god I just found out that you can manipulate AI into thinking faster -_____________- I might've to redo the whole map, problem is I'm not really understanding how that manipulation happens… sure turbofiring A+Start the whole AI's turn made it a 30~ frames faster, but is that all there is to it…? edit: only turbofiring A is helping me actually nevermind all this, I figured it out: you simply can skip AI's firing "animation" by pressing A, and holding it skips it on the earliest frame :) so it's nothing weird, just an animation you wouldn't think you could skip
also, I think letting AI's Inf suicide is faster than killing it with the Mech, so the strategy wasn't optimal either
got 2535 on a random test run manipulating last AI day to move faster skipping AI's firing animation

2560 frames in, we have C1 beaten http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1339124753/NC.dsm
no idea if the strategy is actually optimal, if other people tried it themselves it'd be good, I read somewhere that turbofire causes lag at times, but it didn't seem to me like it did that in this game so I used it for the DAY sign
there are a good amount of things that could be done differently but I'm not sure which is be faster

edit: Rolanmen told me he TAS'd the first map already, does anyone have that movie so I can compare?

I thought of TASing this game's Bosses, does anyone have useful addresses? (speed above anything)
edit: can I also get a save…? mine tells me "Unable to save game data. Turn off etc"
also that WIP doesn't sync for me Sonikkustar, I'm using E ROM, is that why?

so me and STL gave a quick look at NC (Normal Campaign), and it looks a pretty crazy task to plan a strategy… we currently can only meet on weekends, as he's busy with school and me other things, so taking up a massive project like NC would be with just 2 days a week for planning/TASing could be hard… if we ever start it progress will be slow

right, I read the rules some time ago but forgot everything about it
M5 standalone in 546 in-game frames (9 seconds): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJrnNxmNd_E should be perfect, sadly falls 7 frames short of 8"
movie requiring the same cheats as before: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/717868832/M5.dsm
there are 2 istances that require luck (both attacks on the APC) but I didn't need to waste any frames to manipulate them

just thought of another thing: should the ROM with less text be chosen for a TAS? if for example the JP ROM has less text, would that be a good reason to use it? I don't think so but I don't know if people do that around here
I plan on testing the JP ROM to see if there are any random differences that affect time by a decent amount, there shouldn't and hopefully won't be

....you'd be interested in a TAS of Campaign Mode ALAKTORN? Rolanman already said he might do it, but I was just wondering about you.
I've posted in the previous page that me and STL were thinking about planning one, but after this big change in Time Survival… it'll be a while before we start it, I prefer re-doing my Time Survival TAS and also play the mode some more for human competition

Do the CO stars carry over in between missions, is that why you're hacking them? You want to try to achieve the fastest possible time per level?
I think if a run of this mode were to exist, it would need to be standalone without using CO Power cheats. The goal might need to be the lowest total time to complete all courses without max CO Power at the beginning of each mission.
You're obviously free to do what you want on your own time, I'm just trying to point out complications that may arise if you do want to submit this mode at some point.
when I say "standalone" I mean going for a record on a single map, you can carry over Powers
when I say a Time Survival TAS I mean the Basic Course, the whole 11 maps in succession, if you use powers on a map you won't have them in the next one… so they're different to standalone records, and I mean to submit the Basic Course TAS, standalone records are just a bonus for who cares (and also help as tests)
@henke: this is not AW1, AWDS can't be "glitched"

it would desync, yeah, since music off saves a lot of frames key presses would be widely different
by the way, music off is estimated to save 17 in-game time seconds for Time Survival
I'm gonna make a new M11 standalone TAS with music off and updated strategy to match the gain, a demo of what it would be like I guess?
nvm what I wrote here before, I was drunk or something, edited: oh, I'm not sure my reason to go for real-time is good: it's simply because human competition is based on that, and it's more interesting for the competitors (one of them being myself)

In general, I would prefer to see runs with music on. Theoretically many games may lag less without music on, but I'd rather not see runs on the site turning off music for minimal gains. Since this is a short time trial based mode focused on getting low times, maybe it is okay. How long is the total run speculated to be? 10+ minutes with no music would get pretty bland.
Does it affect in-game time as well as real time?
EDIT: Were you planning on submitting the time trial mode?
I appreciate the interest, but can't answer your questions precisely as I haven't had the time to test the Music OFF thing a lot yet, I just got told by STL it saves 32 frames for each "DAY" sign on our turns from D2 on, D1 is the same edit: confirmed that it saves for AI's "DAY" sign the same way as ours
it does affect in-game time, yes edit: I read this wrong, it also saves real time so yes to both
I wasn't planning on submitting it at first, since my first TAS was kind of a test run (the strategy wasn't final yet, and got completely overhauled now), but with the new knowledge I can plan a TAS to then be submitted; keep in mind that this TAS goes for in-game time, not real time like is usual for TASVideos, so I don't know if it can even be accepted
the new Time Survival target time is sub 2:00 (STL estimates exactly tying that time), I don't know about real time (you can kind of compare it to the current TAS I guess)
edit: 32 frames gained at the end of the map too, but real time only

just thought of something, considering the above post, if I were to make an AWDS Campaign TAS, should I turn off music? it would make the movie faster, but probably more boring to watch, so my take is a speed/entertainment trade-off and use music
what do you think?

MY TAS IS SHIT OH YEAH
STL figured out a few things that make my TAS completely useless, ie, completely new strategy, also, turning Music OFF makes the "DAY" sign appear sooner (don't ask me why) wasting less time. This obviously means that a TAS should either start with Music OFF SRAM or turn Music OFF in the middle of the first map

Hey guys. Just wanted to let you know I'm working on an improvement and I saved 36 frames so far. I'm still in the first level. Let me know if you want to collaborate or something..
that's a lot for a single level that didn't look that bad to me, what did you improve?
