I have got pcsx-rr-007 (the most current version) and everytime I click "start playback" in the movie tab, it crashes! It is driving me insane, I have tried everything - changing plugins, etc. Any ideas on how to fix this? Many thanks.

I have the original disc of this game (PAL version). When I get home from work I'll see if this works on PCSX-RR and I'll start TASing it. For those who don't know what Z is, it's basically a strategy game (similar to C&C) with drunken robots :) I found it a fairly hard game to play on the PSX, so TASing it and grabbing all the bases before the AI do will be sweet. Thoughts and comments welcome.

I am also interested, though I have never beat the game myself. I would definatetly watch this if someone would make. Off_this_topic; how you can make AVI from your pxm recording?
I also need to know how to make an avi from my recording. Thanks in advance.

I haven't ran into any de-sync issues when I've been recorded my Gran Turismo movie. I have recorded a total of 222,000 frames and the movie runs fine. Be sure to use the SCPH1001 BIOS, I also have the CD image mounted with Daemon tools and use the Xeven's Cdr plugin. What settings are you using?

Ok so I have successfully TASed the first two B license tests and have a movie recorded. Here are the plugins I used: P.E.Op.S. Soft driver 1.18 (comes with the emulator) P.E.Op.S. DSound Audio Driver 1.9 (comes with the emulator) N-Rage Plugin 0.95 for the controllers (comes with the emulator) Xeven's Cdr Driver 0.93 for the CD-ROM plugin (download manually) SCPH1001 BIOS (download manually) Here is the link to the movie file: Megaupload link I will post a video up on youtube soon for those who can't get the movie file to work.

I have been a little delayed but I am working on my GT1 run. Here are my initial findings: From pressing X at the stage select screen on the licenses it take 38 frames to load to the next level. It then takes 300 frames for the first countdown to appear (3) It then takes a further 60 frames for the 2nd countdown to appear (2) Then another 60 frames for (1) and another 60 frames for the race to start. Pressing and holding X 10 frames after the number 2 countdown appears will give you the best launch using AT transmission. Redlining the car also gives you the same results as well. So redlining the car is the easier option to be honest. 1000 frames after redlining the car at the start of the race of the first license gives you a speed of 77MPH @ 16.700 seconds. Now I need to perfect the braking as I can get 34.751 seconds but you need 34.750 seconds or below for gold.

I'll start a test run on GT1 Friday night and I'll have the WIP up Saturday for comments/suggestions. I'm going to do the license tests first, then I'll run through the entire game. This may take a few months to do - and I've never done a TAS video! The emulator seems to run ok on my machine so hopefully I wont run into many issues. Please put forward your suggestions for car choices and tuning; do you want to see pure speed, skill and domination or drifting round tracks and messing around?

So is a version of DOS-Box with Re-recording, TAS tools, etc, looking possible? It's just with everyone mentioning all these games, I'm finding myself excitied but the thought of it not being feasable is heart breaking lol!

Anyone remember Rise of the Triad? I think that game should be considered along with the Doom/Quake/Hexen/Heretic runs :)

I did some tests on my N64. The fastest time I could beat one level with 1 character was 40 seconds. Logically, with 3 you could beat a level in about 15 seconds. That's without any dynamite at all. It seems that I was wrong when I said the game can be beaten in 46 levels. It looks like it'll take about 60. There's about a 10 second delay between levels, so with 60 levels and 25 seconds each that gets you a run of just 25 minutes. About entertainment: Zurreco says this is too repetitive. However, there are various ways to take out buildings, and they vary by level. I think there are 13 levels, maybe more, with V.E.R.N. bonuses*. This means that 1/4 of the levels will involve simply finding the bonus, and pwning everything. * A V.E.R.N. bonus turns whoever gets it into a demon who can take out small buildings in one hit. Arguably the best power-up is Death Breath, which destroys multiple buildings at a time. Another good bonus is Hot Loogie, which burns down 1 building. Several levels contain "power-up" bonuses which let the character who gets them destroy large sections of buildings at the same time. Yet another bonus is pepper, which makes the character sneeze, blowing out a level of the building. Another trick which could be very useful is hijacking. You can hijack planes or tanks, and shoot out several buildings very quickly. Some buildings have an item in them, such as dynamite, a fireplace, etc. that destroys the entire building when activated. Quite a few could be leveled that way. Sometimes, though, it will be necessary to take out a building with regular abilities. Sometimes it will be faster to punch the sides with 2 monsters. However, there's a trick. It seems that there is no limit to the punching speed of the monsters when on top of a building. Basically, if there's a tall building that needs to be destroyed, one monster climbs up and punches the top at 30 hertz, taking it out within a couple seconds.
From the sounds of that post, it seems it would be an interesting watch with all that possible variety. It would be nice to see a W.I.P, perhaps the first 5 levels?

Thanks for the feedback. I have just tried the first mission with the hints suggested. I played it back and it desynchs after 1200 frames! I then did another quick run, it desynchs after 3000 frames! Can't quite understand this myself?

try the Input Plugin for TAS, it will help for analog input.
Sorry perhaps I didn't make much sense of my last post! I am using the Input plugin for TAS. It's a fantastic tool, however I can't pinpoint exactly when I need to set the analog controller back to neutral, the outcome of this is when I want to stop the cursor at an exact location on the screen, it overshoots! I did warn you I am a noob :)

BUMP! Any progress on this? I tried to have a go myself, but I'm a complete noob! The way I went about doing this is basically freezing the game, using the custom input plug-in and mapping the analogue controller to go where I wanted on the map, then using frame advance. The problem I had myself was getting complete accuracy on the map, the cursor would go too far once I had set the analogue back to neutral. Regards, Anarki.

Ok I have to be honest now, I have spent the last 30-40 minutes trying to figure out how to playback the .m64 file through Mupen. I really can't do it! I have read through the FAQ's on this site, i have tried different ROM versions of this game, I have tried different plug-ins, everything! Even deleting the save file from the save directory in the Mupen folder. I load the ROM, it runs fine and smooth, I then click utilities, then record, then start playback. It then defaults into searching for a .rec file. I can't see a way to playback the .m64 file. I am using Mupen 0.5.1 on windows XP. Any ideas guys?

That sounds like a good idea, what units are you going to use to back up the engineers going into their base?

I guess the idea of a TAS for Starcraft 64 fizzled away :( Shame because I would of loved to have seen one.

I hated that game so much when I was younger! Personally I think it wouldn't make a good TAS/Speedrun, as the characters moves are very limited.
