Just get a CD ripper. The CD key will be stored on any computer you installed it on. If you can't do that, I'm sure this game is in the bargain bin. My brother bought the expansion for this game for like $15 at best buy, so I'm sure the original is dirt cheap now too.

I think in the next version I'll just collect enough crystals to get the upgraded bullets and maybe missles or timebombs.

1: If you don't need the points for the bonus diamonds, don't take them, each taken adds some time to your run when they count them up.
Yeah, I talked about that earlier. It would be boring just sitting there though. I think I'll choose style, even if someone else can make a movie 4 1/2 seconds faster. Maybe I'll just run around the level just barely missing the diamonds for show? Also, I'll probably get however many crystals on the first stage as it takes to buy whatever weapons can kill the guardians fastest. "2: See if you can beat those defense guys by using missiles or time bombs (that you buy between level 1 or 2). You don't use any other weapons at all." Definately. I just bought them with the intention of trying a few, but the upgraded bullets worked pretty well alone. Times bombs would make a cool video, and missles + bullets would probably be the fastest, but I'll have to test it more to really get it down.
3: Improve flight path, there were some places where you could have shaven off some frames by turning faster and basically cut corners better.
Yep. I said it was sloppy above, notice the low rerecord count, and remember this was played almost entirely in real time. I'll do a frame by frame more perfect movie soon. I'll probably have a few versions: Finish this one, to get the route down. Next version, find better ways to cut time, kill enemies faster. Refine that to bloody perfection, then try to make a 100% version, with steady flying, perfect high speed blind turns, no missed shots, etc. Thanks for watching everyone, it turned out much better than I thought it would. The final video will probably be just above the 20 min mark, maybe even 25.

Never used FCEU. What makes it better? Maybe you'll convert me, I've wanted to look at some of those other videos on the site, so I'll probably get it either way.

Well if you would be so kind as to put it somewhere people can more easily get to it, I'd be greatly indebted to you!

Does anyone have some place I can host this?

Hmm, I downloaded it just fine. Try right clicking and "save as". File size is only 44k.

"I seem to remember there being "abandoned" ships in some levels, so you could get a new ship if your previous one was destroyed. Those ships are always the same type as your current one, right? Because if not, you could get an upgraded ship that way... but I guess not..." No free upgrades :) I don't use any abandoned ships, I only lose my ship once (on purpose). I do collect the energy/fuel tanks though when I'm empty. Doing a whole planet without returning to the ship makes that necessarry. Its usually pretty cool when I do it though, as I fly by, spin, take a shot, then continue on my way with full energy.

Due to popular demand, here is my solar jetman video. http://liquidperspective.20m.com/solarjetmanTA.fmv This video is me going to planet 1, 2, 3, warping to 7, 7, 8, and finally warping to 13. I didn't finish 13 or move on to planet 12 (12 does come after 13) or do the final side scroller level. Planet 13 (then planet 12) are about the same as 7 except bigger, so I didn't do them. You'll get a general idea what the game/video is about by watching this. I just made this video to gauge interest in a real time attack. I did this run almost 100% in real time. This is also my very first video. So be gentle. This is far from a proper time attack, it only took me a little over an hour start to finish. Its very sloppy, there are missed shots, etc. Don't critique me on that, I don't care :) If I had the time and desire I could make it look much better. Maybe not better than some of the other awesome videos on this site, but respectible at least. Its about 12 min long, and has almost 400 rerecords. Didn't seem like that many, but when you get frustrated you may jam the undo button more times than you meant to. High points, low points, ideas for improvement: Picking up the first fuel cell sucks without boosters. It gets better, I promise. I make picking up the ship part look easy. It weighs about 10x more than your ship, and is pretty hard to do in game without retries, especially on this level when you don't have boosters. Maybe I shouldn't use the space suit after I get the first ship part? It makes the gem stage 100x easier, but probaly not in slo mo. Also, I really don't need money, but sitting there and letting time expire seems boring, even though it would save a little time counting up the crystals. I use the ship for it later, so I do something different on every bonus stage (its fixed time, your total time only changes depending on how many you get. I always get them all in this video). I buy 3 weapons because I'm not sure which I'm gonna use. Don't ask my why I didn't equip anything for planet 2 (when I needed it) but not for stage 3 (when I didn't). Room for improvement there. Picking up the booster is slow, its heavy as a ship part! Picking up the first fuel canister on P2 is nice. The second is also very not bad. I get the 3rd fuel cell swinging so I can easily get it into the warp. I take a hit because I can, I'm almost out of fuel, and you might think I was gonna die. I take a hit near the gravity balls so I don't get knocked back and can get in the warp quicker. If I had the upgraded bullets I might be able to do this faster. Now that I have the boosters, I try the cyberzone with the ship. I use the "propelled pinball" method this time, not really that fast, but fun to watch I think. Planet 3 goes by fast... Planet 7 is the majority of the video. I need to fight a few guardians who go down quick er with upgraded bullets, but not fast enough. I think I have a good route for this planet, and it wouldn't be much (if any) faster with the upgraded ships. The guardian battles suck, I know. Flying through the one tight caver, I wanted to get the gravity abll on screen so you could see w hy I was flying like a retarded monkey. I like the race with the missle straight down that one cavern. Getting the ship part is fairly straight forward. I do a little turn to swing it around instead of doing the boring fly right next to the warp zone. This bonus stage, I fly normal without hitting everything. I spin at the end because no action is boring. Planet 8 also goes by fast. What do you think?

Oh I misread him. I thought he was talking about bouncing with a shied to get momentum and then towing. I do that without a shield in a couple of places (hold in down). I hosted it, I'll post it in a min.

To do that, you'd also have to get shields, which I didn't. It would probably we worth the time saved, but a pro doesn't need them right? I dunno, after a couple movies have been done we'll probably find the ideal route and what items to buy, etc. Should I just submit this, knowing it will get rejected in its unfinished form so people can view it, or is there a place to upload "work in progress" movies?

"Don't forget, after a certain point, you can actually tow the warp thing with you." You need to buy the second ship to do that, so it really isn't an option for something like this. It is only sold at certain stores and I'd have to totally clear out some stages to get enough money for it. And it wouldn't make my time that much faster anyway, as most of the fuel canisters in the chosen levels are close to warp holes. "The rope is rigid and of solid length, and grabbing the carried item when you are too near it causes it to accelerate really fast." Well, it just moves the item to the end of the tractor beam. I'm having more fun using items to swing my pod around corners and lining the items up for droping in the worm holes.

I think the fastest route would be 1-2-3-7-8-13-12-final That's a whole lot of fuel canisters to pick up. I made a demo video, of me going 1-2-3-7-8-13. Only took an hour or so. Its sloppy, but I'll post it up tommorow to gauge interest in a 'real' video. Its not as boring as I thought it would be, its nice to watch, but doing a "perfect" version would be a nightmare. I may do a "stylish" version that's just really really fast instead. Not sure yet. Be sure to watch this when I post it up.

I would like to make a movie for this game, but a couple things hold me back. 1. It would be boring. Half of it would be watching me make high speed blind turns without much action, and the other half would be watching me pick up fuel cells and towing them to the closest warp. 2. It would be long. Long is okay when cool things are happening, but when its just empty flying with the same scenery for 30 min, it isn't fun. These videos are supposed to be fun, and unless I could get the movie down to a reasonable level, I don't think it'd be worth the time. There is rumored to be a warp from level 1 to level 7, but with out the equipment from level 2 (specificly the upgraded boosters) I'm not even sure this would help much.

I believe that's the ripper most of the commonly available roms are created with. Either way, in most of the roms available on the net the header says "diskdude" in it, and must be edited out for famtasia to play it.

I won't help you pirate the game, but if you honestly do have the original CD still you have 2 options. 1. Get a CD key ripper and use it to look at the cd key on a machine you installed the game on 2. Send the CD to blizzard and they will send you a new CD key
