I thought this was some kind of desync, but apparently ending input and waiting for the first mob to run into him is the run. What are the voting guidelines (and why aren't they auto linked to the poll)? Needs to be in a "fastest end of input that results in death" category. It is a slow and boring death and seemingly devoid of technical merit if not properly qualified.
This submission should be rejected, but assuming it was of publishable quality, you are incorrect. TAS site rules are that we time the game until final input. Bending this rule at all completely invalidates timing on just about every single video (most games end at least 2 frames after final input, usually more).

You probably don't need it rubbed in much further but I voted 'no'. The goal of the run is new, but it's not interesting. This site has a policy of rejecting runs with "arbitrary" conditions to gameplay, and this almost certainly qualifies. Beyond that, it seems like you either ignored or weren't aware of the many time-saving tricks in SMB. A good resource to start with is here: http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/NES/SuperMarioBros.html I doubt this category will ever get a published run, but it's an okay start for your TASing. If you practice and do some research, you might be able to get a publication in another game. I don't recommend trying for SMB, though, as this game already has so many people TASing it and trying to squeeze every frame out of it. Good luck in the future, I hope this doesn't discourage you! Learn from your mistakes!

I may be a little late to the party, but the way I see it there's two major viewpoints here: 1: Skipping Ganon isn't entertaining, and thus shouldn't obsolete a more entertaining run. 2: Skipping Ganon is faster, and the site's stated philosophy is that we complete games as quickly as possible. In all honesty, I think the best way to reconcile is just to make a sub/splinter site with greater emphasis on entertainment, while tasvideos keeps itself devoted to "gotta go fast". Would that cause huge problems for people? Hell, you could just have a YouTube channel that hosts entertainment runs. The community could run it and preserve runs that are decided entertaining but not worthy of a new category or obsoleting an existing run. Basically, I just see a viewpoint that majorly differs from the site's intended goal and could be satisfied with minimal hassle. Let the official runs be as fast as possible, and you can publish entertaining runs for fun, informally.

I voted 'no', even though I knew I'd be in the minority cuz almost nothing gets rejected here. While this is all good and optimized, it's just not fun to watch because of the need to look down. I understand it's the fastest way to play, but I feel like I'd be more comfortable voting 'yes' if there was a run with the entertainment tradeoff of actually being able to see what's happening instead of looking down and to the wall. Not that this isn't an impressive run, and not that I don't appreciate the work that went into it, but it's just not what I'd want to be the only example of a Goldeneye TAS.

It worked perfectly, thanks. Now I'm dealing with some other problems, though. I can fix them on my own, however.

I'm working on some DS stuff, and youtube looks stupid as hell with the two screens atop each other. Is there a way to edit the video to have the top screen to the left of the bottom screen?

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10692406/Unicru%20Personality%20Assessment2.html -- Webpage http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10692406/Personality%20Assessment%20for%20Job%20Applications.rtf -- RTF I found a year-old document of this on the internet, and the owner is no longer updating it, so I decided I'd take up the mantle. Anyone interested in helping can find my contact details within at the beginning and end of the document. Basically, Unicru is a company that many major businesses facilitate their hiring process through, and they have, as part of the application process, a personality test that looks for a very specific kind of person to hire. you are asked about 75 questions to which you can respond 'strongly agree', 'agree', 'disagree' and 'strongly agree'. Based on your answers, you are placed in one of three piles: green (will be interviewed if positions are available), yellow (may be interviewed if they run out of greens), or red (will almost certainly not be interviewed). I feel that this is an intolerable form of discrimination that needs to be fought against, and, as such, I am heading a fight. To do so, I am distributing the answers to the questions, and making the system useless as a result. The base of this document contains answers that were leaked by an employee (a programmer working on the test), who disagreed with its morality. Using these answers as a base, I have made headway on further questions added to the test. I'm posting this here to get a little more widespread knowledge of the document, and am also posting to a few other internet communities. You can help by passing this document on to anyone who is, will be, or knows someone who will be applying for entry-level positions to just about any major business at any point in the future. So pretty much anyone under 25 or so. Thank you for your time.

Some programs will block the download due to the .dll being suspicious. If you disable your firewalls for the download, you (probably) won't have that problem.

Is the version in the OP the most current version with rerecording capabilities? If not, where can I find the most current version? And, uh, is there one with which Valkyrie Profile works? Cuz it doesn't for the one in the OP >_>

Bolsters my faith in the 3ds despite nintendo not being involved at all. If this can be done convincingly for an entire theatre, imagine how well it can be done for just one person.

Something on another forum reminded me of this site: We go through a flash game every week, and whoever gets the "high score" that week gets a prize in the game the forum is for. This week, we played This Is the Only Level, with the condition being lowest time, with +1 second for every death. It's getting kind of heated between me and another player. I currently hold the record by a whopping 62.5 milliseconds. I think this can officially be labeled a framewar, no? :P 30-Segment run (mine!) any%

http://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTEwNjkyNDA2OQ That's a referral link. A bit of shameless self-promotion on my part, but, hey. I like free gigabytes. I did a search and didn't find any topic about it, so I thought I'd let you guys know, since this seems like it'd be right up your alley. Dropbox works by installing a program and creating a folder on your computer. Within that folder, you can create new folders. These'll host anywhere from 2 to 10 GB of files for you on the dropbox servers, and allow you to share them with relative ease. It's got three primary benefits: Easy Filehosting Say Cpadolf wants to post his sparkster TAS in a thread but doesn't feel like using microstorage because it's just a short, temporary thing. Well, now, BAM, he drops it in the 'Public' folder, right clicks to copy the link, and here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10692406/cpadolf-sparkster.smv It's there and once the smv is no longer needed, he deletes it or moves it out of the folder and it's off the internet. Of course, he could just use MicroStorage for that, so that one's not a big deal. Backups of all your WIPs Since the files are copied to Dropbox's server, they stay there even in the event of a hardware failure (which I know has affected TASes in the past). Even after you delete a file, Dropbox holds on to it for 30 days, giving you plenty of time to fix a mistake or change your mind. Not only that, but if a new route or trick is found earlier on in your run, you can just revert the file to the version it was in a week ago, and BAM, saves you from having to redo the whole run up to that point. It's like giving you extra savestates every time you save the file! Collaborative TASes The last bit of awesomeness TASers might benefit from is having collaborative projects being able to be worked on simultaneously. A good example would be the 120-star run in SM64. So, say you get all the TASers working on that run to download Dropbox. They create a Shared Folder called "SM64 120 Stars", and put all their runs to be hex-edited together in there. Now, not only are the files easily available and backed up for whoever puts together the final run, but if someone feels the urge to try to improve a Star, they can access ANY WIP in that folder and edit it at will. And if you end up with drama in the community, with someone deleting or saving over the files, it's not a big deal because you can revert and undelete those files, then kick the troll out of the folder. So, yeah. It's a nice little tool that's gaining popularity, and I figured TASvideos might benefit a lot from it, since all of these have been problems at one point or another. That's all.

Certain ROM images have, as an anti-piracy measure, a feature that prevents Pokémon from gaining EXP. I hope there is a run of such a version in the future :U

I've been using the Original settings for these recent uploads, they're beautiful. Otherwise, I usually pick the highest setting and go do something else while it loads.

Belated yes vote. This is the most optimal TAS I've seen in a long time, and the people on this site have been more excited for this than the new 0-star SM64 run.

You know what? To the average layperson who has no idea what the difference between [PAL] and [U] and [J] is, they wouldn't understand why the fastest run doesn't get the prize. And I would have to agree with that. This website is for entertainment purposes, and the fastest run should be the main published one, obsoleting any older ones. This is for the entertainment of not only fellow gamers, but for casual gamers and even non-gamers alike. I choose yes (as a gamer representing the people)!
Actually, even the average layperson would probably notice the difference in gameplay on the two roms, as the speed of movement and tempo of the music are different. I certainly did, which led to me even checking this discussion in the first place.

I voted yes for publishing, but I would not like to see this replace the U run. As others have said before me, it's essentially a different game. A different set of rules to bend and break. This run is not a replacement for the U run, this run is its own beast, and should be caged accordingly.

Oh, I used ffdshow. I wasn't even aware vba runs COULD desync, there's nothing to really fuck up, like with the N64 plugins. I pretty much follow the encoder guidelines page when I make encodes, so I'm not sure what could have gone wrong. I'll see if I can get this one right later today.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kd-21k_BSFQ I got an ending where Bella died, I assume that means I win. okay so the first thing we have to do is work on a route. Unfortunately, much like metal gear solid, this game is mostly cutscenes. You could almost consider it an interactive movie, which is an interesting concept. Fortunately no dialogue is skippable so the game wont lose any entertainment quality. Any thoughts?[/i]
