If the list is created, I promise to get my name on it someday.

I don't see the problem, because it seems that you, stanski, are voting "yes" anyway. ;)

...you must list a good/logical/technical reason for why they would work well together.
The previous multigame TAS authors chose games that they already knew very well. Previous tasing experience with the games helps a lot since you already know how the games behave at the frame level. Also, you'll be spending a lot of time watching the familiar games from a new perspective and need to find new ways of doing things. This may eventually lead to new discoveries and improvement ideas for the original single game runs. For this reason only, I'd try doing all my current movies simultaneously. If only Gens had that possibility...

BTW, there is no chance I can get those glitches to work for a speed run, is there?
The speed trick is impossible to maintain in real time since you would need reflexes of 1 frame. The animation stop trick works with autofire.

Thanks Jackic. You are right, it's not the most interesting movie. The strength bug was nice, though.

Tone down your imagination, there's no piss in the movie! He's just asking if the girl is ok and the girl says she's hungry, so the guy gives her a piece of the boss tentacle.

I'm glad that people enjoy the movie. I had lots of fun doing it.

Can the lag at the beginning of Stage 5 be reduced/eliminated?
Not eliminated completely, but I could imagine some future player reducing it a bit. I tried killing some of the enemies, but it caused too much delay. Overall, lag was the hardest part in the game. By the way, there's a funny bug in the game that was not included in the movie. If you autofire B with the gun (at stage 5), the ammo value reduces very fast and the animation is stuck so that the game can't force the player to drop the empty weapon. This causes the ammo to continue vanishing all the way to the negative values. Unfortunately, no interesting overflows occurred.

some overcharged magic may cause something useful.
You are wrong. Now that Gens has the memory watch feature, I had easy time testing every 256 levels of magic power. Only one interesting spell was found: 119 charge volume causes level skip in 20 minutes. Yeah, that is completely useless in a TAS, unless you want to try it in the last level and end input very very early...

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Maybe I'll remove some of the taken damage. It is supposed to create variation and a funny pose during waiting times (except the tentacle boss fight where it saves time). I'll wait for more ideas before redoing anything.

Thanks for the tips mmbossman. By the way, I just finished the movie in 14m 15.55s. Need to add more style...

Oops, four levels done: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5248/sh2wip.gmv Any ideas how to make the autoscrolling parts more entertaining? They can be hex-edited at any time.

The speed trick familiar from Genesis Batman works in this game too. First slide and then release all directional buttons and jump precisely to maintain the slide speed while jumping. This method saved 4 seconds in the first level compared to Jackic's movie. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5223/sh2test.gmv

I just watched your run, which wasn't boring at all. The three different types of levels created variation, it was fast paced and the graphics provided a nice dose of surrealism. I guess the game is about as long as the earlier Sonic games are.

The first version of the wiki version is there: http://tasvideos.org/Aqfaq.html Thanks a lot to all who reviewed the list in the stage 1! All ideas are still welcome. Let's make the list useful to everyone.

I think the game runs too fast (despite auto-frameskip and auto-detect) since the sound is unnaturally high.
When I watch it, it's about twice as fast as the SNES version. I have never played it with a real console, so I can't say what the normal speed should be.

Wow, the 32X version of Blackthorne is way faster than the SNES version. I did the first level as a test run. I have never recorded any 32X stuff before, so I would appreciate if someone checked it for desynchs. I'm not sure if I continue doing this, but the game looks promising. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5198/btlv1.gmv

Voting is too complicated. I was thinking of simply bold text for games that seem good candidates.

Thanks. The problem with categorizing this game is that even though the theme is sports, the gameplay is different from most other sports games. I have not played the game much, but there seems to be RPG elements like experience points and adventure mode. My solution would be that instead of putting it into the sports category, leave it in the main list with info box saying: Sports/RPG hybrid.

Ok, I think the list is quite finished now: http://www.freewebs.com/aqfaq/genlistv7.txt It would be nice if a few people reviewed the list for incosistensies once more, so that the first version of the wiki page would be as good as possible.

Updated the list again: http://www.freewebs.com/aqfaq/genlistv5.txt [obsoleted] It's not quite finished yet. I decided to remove the games that have published movies. They get enough attention already, so there's no reason to re-list them here. Do we need more categories than Autoscroller, Racing, Sports, Others? I think that from TAS perspective, there's no need to make more categories. Well, maybe RPG, because there are many of those. Fighting games could be listed separately, but there are very few of them, so it may be quite useless. The list entries would look something like this:
| Game name | Information |
The list should be as simple as possible, but informative enough for a taser. The information box would include only relevant TAS related stuff: known problems with emulation, desynch issues, existing movies that were not published, etc. The games would be listed alphabetically. If the page feels too long, we create sub-pages or tabs for the categories. I would not like to remove any games from the list even if they seem very bad candidates for tasing, because that might reduce individual creativity. Entries would be removed from the list after they have a published movie. Is this a good direction to go with the Genesis wishlist? --- Edit: I've decided to list fighting and RPG games separately as new categories. --- Edit: http://www.freewebs.com/aqfaq/genlistv6.txt [obsoleted] Fighting games are now listed as their own group. (Beat 'em up games are left with the other games.) There are many different types of games with RPG elements, so I'm not sure how to choose titles for the RPG category. Maybe that category is not necessary at all. I think it's better to give no information than wrong information. There are already too many gaming sites that give wrong or misleading genre descriptions for games. --- Edit: More ideas for categories: Verified Good Candidates Mahjong Games (there are amazing amount of them)

That's a good idea. I never thought of that type of movie. I'll look into it. --- Edit: Almost everything can be manipulated very effectively. You can even let 3 CPUs (with no human player) play and just hit buttons to manipulate their game indirectly. You could be the director and make any kind of movie, but I'm afraid that it would be boring no matter how it is manipulated. Meh.

Thanks. I'm (once again) very impressed at your ability to spot stuff like that. However, I can't quite understand what you mean. That may be due to my brain being used to certain kind of reasoning with this game, so that I can't see all the different types of possibilities. Afterall, it's a puzzle game, and I've watched those tiny guys do their stuff for quite long. I'll look into it later.

It seemed like you used this solution (or a similar one) elsewhere.
The game is full of little details that force the perfect player to use different solutions for seemingly similar situations. Sometimes the same solution can be bad simply due to a different number of useless humans in the level. In level 18, there are 5 humans, but only 3 of them go for the climb bug. Because the humans can be switched in one direction only, 4 frames are lost every round without proper planning. Here's a hypotethical (but typical) example with 5 humans (though it's not necessarily related to what you had in mind): Human A (with a spear): jump, switch to B Human B: walk, start falling off a ledge, switch to C Human C: walk, start climbing a ladder, switch to D Useless human D: idle 1 frame and switch to E (This guy used 2 frames, because max speed for switching humans is 30hz.) Useless human E: idle 1 frame and switch to A (This guy used 2 frames.) Human A: If the previous jump still lasts more than 5 frames, idle 1 frame and switch to B. Otherwise: Start a new jump before switching to B. With more humans it can get much more complicated than this, so it's likely that I've made a few mistakes somewhere. Another typical situation: Spear-jump on a flat ground uses 6 idle frames, so 4 useless humans is enough to outweigh the benefit of switching between the jumps. More questions like that would be nice, although I can't guarantee an answer that makes sense.
