But I can't understand why one would want to watch a SNES Doom TAS when a PC Doom TAS is available?
Because generally PC Doom TAS does not aim for frame precision, ha-ha. There might also be some new bugs to abuse in the SNES version. On the other hand, I believe strafe-running, wall-running and many other tricks do not work so well on SNES. Yeah, the SNES Doom looks horrible and runs slow, but I'd still like to see it done. I'm sure it would look ridiculous and funny. Who knows what kind of routes and tricks might emerge?

I'd probably enjoy watching the SNES Doom, because it is actually quite a different game than the PC version. Most of the Doom TAS that I've seen look sloppy. There's however this page by Andrey Budko that shows some quality: http://www.geocities.com/e6y/doom.html Unfortunately, you need the game to replay those awesome TAS demos. (Youtube version, not recommended: http://youtube.com/watch?v=XorJfexzF4M&search=doom%20demos)

The hex-editing is done: - Level 20 was improved by 4 seconds. - Various levels were slightly improved with the ladder-grabbing trick. - Total improvement is 370 frames. - It was fun. Now I'm at level 39, once again.

My lone complaint is Cossack 3
To me Cossack 3 was one of the funniest and most relaxing part, including a very great boss fight. 7th YES.

This is a humorous movie. There's actually quite a lot of action there, if you don't let other funny things (like grrraphics and annnimation) distract you. This should be accepted. I voted for it (the movie - not communism) a long time ago.

It's been a while, but I replayed my current WIP and got excited again. --- Here are some news: 1) Grabbing a ladder while walking past it saves 3 frames. I counted about 16 spots where this "classic" timesaver was ignored. 2) Hex-editing levels together does not work perfectly, because the climbing trick is vulnerable to desync. 3) Level 20 and 26 routes might not be the fastest possible. --- Some re-re-re-recording and hex-editing needs to be done before I can continue with the next level (39). If you enjoy bugs and crazy movies, now would be a good time to check the progress so far. Bonus points to all who find mistakes in the movie!

I think those sound effects fit to the context quite well.

Hi! I watched your movie. Here some questions: 1) Do you have a reason for not choosing the harder difficulty level? Usually the movie is more interesting that way. 2) Are you sure that you pressed start as early as possible? Did you use frame advance to find the earliest frame? 3) Why did you make Obelix hit the air so much? :)

If you are worried about the movie lenght, try improving Dark Castle: http://tasvideos.org/movies.cgi?id=482

Here's a savestate collection featuring some interesting and funny discoveries: [removed a dead link] I'm through with this game. Edit: Link removed.

MW4 is one of the best games in the series too!

Monster World IV is a sequel to Wonderboy in Monster World (MW3), but I think it never got released outside Japan. I was just testing some things with it, but ran into trouble immediately. After loading a savestate, the title screen background got messed up: http://www.freewebs.com/aqfaq/mw4-error.jpg This graphical error did not reappear in playback and the movie played correctly. I guess Gens just loaded some corrupted savestate data there? I've completed the game once. It's quite linear, but the hardest part would be to choose what to buy and when. I'm quite sure that no armor or shield of any kind is needed, but buying a better sword at some point might speed up the boss figths significantly. Any ideas from those who have played the game? It would be great to have some kind of rough playthrough video, just to get an idea of the project. At the moment I feel it's too long game for me. By the way, pressing left+right makes the girl walk backwards. --- Edit-2: First boss defeated in 6 minutes. This makes me think that under 1 hour completion is unlikely. However, I managed to use enemies as platforms to reach higher places saving at least 30 seconds, so who knows what kind of shortcuts are possible eventually. To this point, the game has been very linear, but I have no idea what would be the best thing to do next. I can't continue recording until the route is made clear. Hopefully someone has time to check this movie for possible mistakes. I think it looks great. :) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/408853094/MW4-WIP.gmv The rom is "Wonderboy 6 (MonsterWorld 4) (J) [!]".

Bwhaha! Don't you try that trick again! I'd like to work on some short game for a change. Edit: Maybe I'll consider MW4 if someone shows some kind of run for it first.

Yeah, it's not a fast game, but I enjoyed watching the movie. Hopefully the later stages have enough enemies to make more interesting.

Have you tried to play Monsterworld IV? It's a quite nice game too. It has been released only in Japan, but there exists a good english translation. The main character is much faster in that game. I'd like to see a movie of it someday.

I don't have much to say about the movie. It looked pretty good to me. I don't know the game that well, so I probably can't spot any more mistakes than you do. Does jumping on enemies save time? You jumped on some enemies and it looked like that moved Dick to the right quite fast.

At the inn I equip the legendary sword. It is needed to get to the sky castle. In the sky castle I change between ceramic boots (faster running) and ladder boots (faster climbing). It takes some time to change the boots, so it's not obvious when to do it. There's also one point where I equip the thunder magic together with ceramic boots. It's probably hard to follow sometimes because it goes so fast. :) Thanks for your vote.
