Hint: Give your character a funny name. Examples: He never, to have fun, I failed Possible plot twists: "He never casts a fireball!" "King says: Welcome to my kingdom to have fun!" "Friendly NPC says: I failed! I thought you were dead!" EDIT: Oh, by the way, Final Fantasy is bad because you can't give names long enough.

One of my friends got his NHL-97 shattered like that. He had played several hours in a row and the game started behaving very strangely. It was a hardcore bugfest. For example, some sound files were messed up so that the commentator talked nonsense. It was still very playable. Then the disc died.

I examined the Gods rom with a hex-editor. In the middle of the mess, I detected words: Cripal Source Code Any idea what that means? EDIT: Heh, I tested using a savestate cracker and managed to find a way to edit the hero's horizontal position. Now I can move to strange places. Fun, but useless. EDIT: Heh, first boss killed and level completed. 108 frames faster than before. EDIT: Ooh, 2nd boss killed and level completed. At this point, I'm 299 frames faster compared to the current published movie. It did not take that long to make this movie afterall. Hopefully I can finish this during the weekend.

I watched it too. Not as boring as I expected, but not particularly interesting either. It's humorous anyway. My vote is positive and I encourage Walker to make a new version with FCEU.

Thanks. I guess everything is ready to be recorded, but I don't want to hurry with this. The completion time will possibly be under 7:40. (To demonstrate, I perform one obvious improvement in the end of the movie below.) I tested the newfound ladder trick with longer ladders and, lo, the graphics got really messed up. Here's the messy movie: http://www.freewebs.com/aqfaq/ladder-trick-mess.gmv The trick works like this: 1) stand near a ladder 2) press up for 4 frames ---> hero starts grabbing the ladder 3) press left ---> hero starts turning left Now, the hero has grabbed the ladder and started turning at the same time. If you then start climbing down, the hero moves down, but his animation is screwed. I guess he is virtually/visually turning while climbing. If the ladder is long enough and you keep climbing, the game runs out of images (of the hero) and an overflow occurs. Something like that. OK, we have graphics messed up. What then? I ran out of ideas...

Hah, I did not expect to find a new glitch in Gods. By grabbing the ladder and pressing left or right immediately (Stupid player!) causes a graphical anomaly. It looks quite funny. Here's a short demonstration movie: http://www.freewebs.com/aqfaq/ladder-glitch.gmv Also, I did not know (until now) that it is possible to quit the game by pressing A, B and C simultaneously when the game is paused. Two useless discoveries in an hour, wow!

Sub-Terrania is like Solar Jetman with more action and less adventuring. There are 9 unique missions with interesting events and bosses. The ship can move very fast, but is easily ruined by hitting the walls, so normally one must proceed with caution... oh yeah, the stage is set. Instead of just requesting, I tested making the first 2 missions. Here's the movie file: http://www.freewebs.com/aqfaq/sub-terrania.gmv ROM: Sub-Terrania (U) [!].bin My test movie is surely not perfect, but there's definitely TAS potential in this game. The completion time will possibly be under 6 minutes. Go for it, everybody!

Ok, my turn to create few lines of useless information for humanity to drown in. A French artist Marc-Antoine Mathieu has created a series of brilliant comics starring Julius Corentin Acquefacques. Aqfaq comes from the Finnish translation. I originally used it as an UFO2000 account, but it soon became my standard online nick. I wish I'd been more creative back then. Sometimes people read it as "Agfag" which is annoying.

True, it's a bit repetitive at the moment. It was made quite quickly, but I'm planning to continue working on it. The most difficult part is to find ways to keep the original mood in it. I use Modplug tracker. Thanks for the feedback.

Very few people seem to be interested in this submission. Well, that's fine for me, I found a way to kill some seconds. This submission will be beaten by... 3-6 seconds.

Let's compare the roms... Battle for Arrakis (E): 50fps, sound problem (and desync problem?) Building of a Dynasty (U): 60fps, desync problem Maybe we should forget the european rom. Oh, I tried to search for Gens sound guide or FAQ of some sort, but failed to find any useful information.

But I still think you should try to record atleast the last mission Aqfaq. As perfect as you can.
Thanks for encouragement, but I'm unable to do that at the moment. The sound goes *error-error* way too often for my patience. I believe that (for the players) the point of timeattacking is to play within the limits of the game universe. What you suggest now is that we should accept the sound problem and play a game called "Gens". Well, I can't play that game. I'd really enjoy making the last mission as well as I could, but that is not possible at the moment. Project Status: No fun - no run.

Even without the desync & sound problems, making this multihour movie would be an enormous task. It is crazy to try recording anything decent when those critical problems are unsolved. I lack the skill required to solve the remaining problems. To be honest, I'm completely lost here. It seems that Highness is almost as helpless as I am. There are surely many skilled persons around here who can easily see what the problems are about. Is it just that nobody else is genuinely interested in this project?

I've found all pages interesting and useful. Hex-editing is easier than I ever thought. :) Now that I remember, I once had a stupid problem because a certain event was triggered when a button was RELEASED instead of PRESSED. It took some time to understand why the game was behaving oddly. Also, games may have different limitations conserning what buttons can be pressed simultaneously. These rules can change even during the same game when scenario or viewpoint changes: menu/shop/world-map/inventory/etc. Menu optimization is not always as simple as it seems. Ofcourse, everyone can learn to avoid these obvious hazards quite easily, but if generic tips page is enhanced, mentioning this kind of things would do no harm.

I tested Genecyst briefly and no sound bug occurred. This confirms (slightly) the assumption that it is Gens that fails, not the rom.

I already voted YES for some earlier version of the movie, so this better version deserves the same vote. Quite funny to watch although I never played the game.

Sorry, I have nothing new to report at this point. The sound error is annoying and I am unable to solve it on my own. I feel it's useless to continue recording anything until the sound error is corrected. Nevertheless, strategies and ideas are still worth discussing. Having units standing on destructed buildings seems to make it impossible for the enemy to rebuild them. It would be good to know more about how the AI manages stuff. Uhh, this game has so unfair computer opponent.

Shouldn't you have pressed start once more in the end? (Damn, this is my 100th post... what a waste.)

It's true that I haven't been doing anything for this project lately. Some other games have completely distracted me from this. The route is quite clear now, but this is surprisingly hard game to optimize. I enjoy abusing programming errors, but Wonderboy in Monsterworld seems to have none. If someone found even a tiny little flaw in the game, it would be much more interesting to produce this movie. By the way, does someone know what kind of enemies can drop magic refills? I have never seen others than Ice World monsters drop them.
