I'd suggest switching to .9.6 when it comes out, instead.

Is there going to be an 'all-stages' version of Mega Man X4 then?
You mean like this? an X run is slowly making progress, but will improve if I can get past where I stalled at.

I was without a doubt impressed by this run. I'm glad you finished it, as you had a lot more drive and enthusiasm for it than anyone else. This is most certainly worthy of a yes vote. Stats unmentioned in the submission: Souls: 1772 Rescue: 18 Clear Time: 16:10 Hunter ranks: X - D Zero - GA

Uh, no it isn't. While it may play in desmume at such speeds, the avi output is certainly *far* from being that slow and laggy. The fact that the video has terrible audio desync should hint at this.

Oddity: every edit you makes sends a notification to irc. These all appear to be minor edits, and there is a checkbox for such an occurence, which prevents these notifications from occuring. It'd be awesome if you could check it.

anyways, I actually decided to take a look at UTK2 1-1 frame-by-frame. haven't done an all OK/COOL run -quite- yet, but a couple notes: <wall of text>
Since I removed the video, I might as well remove the link to it. Thusfar, the time saved from using 0.9.6 is far from insignificant; roughly 2 minutes 46 seconds after the 5th operation (which is how far I made it in 0.9.4, and effectively signifies the end of chapter 1). I decided to go with no healing touch outside of required instances, so we'll see how that pans out.

I recall in BoF 2 there being a memory value that I could watch which told me immediately if an enemy had a droppable item or not (and in combination with guide, which item it was), since it was determined at the start of the battle, not the end. Such a value probably also exists in the first game.

1) You know those artificial membranes (the ones you use the forceps for, such as immediately after a tumor removal)? only takes a tap with the medical gel in UtK2, which means they won't eat up any significant time. This information is the ONLY reason I managed to S-rank the limited gel/no stabilizer mission sight-reading it. (one of the bonuses on the mission requires every wound that can be sealed with artificial membranes to be sealed with them)
You might also be interested to know that any wound can be sutured with 3 lines.
2) S-ranking the missions require you to get EVERY bonus possible from the mission. If a Perfect Surgeon [All S-rank] TAS is attempted, it will be a bit longer (with respect to a "Sadistic Surgeon" [lowest time] TAS) mostly due to one mission that ends when a certain action is performed by the player. Personally, I would still prefer the Perfect Surgeon approach to it, since the Sadistic Surgeon approach for that mission is just Healing Touch->Healing Touch->End [Fission Mailure]
My definition of perfect surgeon for this game isn't all XS rank, it's all cool's, with the exception of the one or two times you're forced to get a good (eg. the first tumor you find in the second mission). One particular mission will get a C rank, simply because it can be beaten in roughly .5 of a second by using the healing touch 3 times instantly, .
3) There is a microphone involved when dealing with one specific strain of the neo-GUILT (and, memory serving correctly, only appears once in the story mode, although I haven't yet gotten through the X missions yet). I believe you CANNOT do anything while the screen is gassed, though I haven't checked that personally.
I believe you needed to have the mist clear first so you can do things, but followup times you can do things after you blow but before the mist full clears.
4) There are probably a couple missions that are utterly IMPOSSIBLE to avoid misses on [and thus, S-rank] without manual Healing Touch use (this means Healing Touch is activated Manually). Can't say for certain which ones they are, as I haven't studied all of them in-depth yet.
It wont cause any problems, I'm sure.
5) "Improvising" is going to eat up some time due to how the alarm system on the locks work [you can remove all but the lit "fuse", but then you have to wait for the light on the lit fuse to turn off before removing it]. Healing Touch is NOT advised for a TAS on that level. the penlight does NOT have to be over an area for you to work on it, so memorization is the way to go here.
I'm sure that wont cause any problems either.
also... bump?
My run of tcutk2 was waiting for a newer version of desmume, mostly out of laziness and more timing fixes. And also due to a "how to progress" wall, with it being healing touch all the way (no penalty for using it, making missions significantly easier to pass on hard), or no healing touch unless mandated (making missions significantly harder).

I tried a rather short run of ssbm with svn 5163 (essentially the version that was split for release), it desynced rather fast. dolphin seems to lack a proper recording interface, hotkey configuration, and of course sync stability. It looks like we'll be waiting quite a while before we get to tas with it properly.

I knew time could be saved, but that much? This was an awesome tas to watch, There were many things that you did that I wouldn't have thought of, even if I had done the run now, as opposed to back then. This easily gets a yes vote, without a doubt. I'd even say it's star worthy.

Im sorry but you are not a player, dont speak for them, i am a player, the 10$ bounty is very motivating (at least it was for awards), and im gratefull for it.
As a player, I find moozooh's comment to be rather true. $10 (or even a higher figure, eg. $100) would be rather unlikely make me do anything if I wasn't planning on doing it already. TASing is something I (and presumably most other people) do as a hobby of sorts, so bringing money into it makes it seem a little more like a job. Re: moozooh's comment on OoT, I don't think I'd even consider it for a stupidly high amount of money, simply because of the various things that would need to be read up apon, learned how to do on a frame precise level, and the fact you're using mupen which requires an external program to even watch memory values.

Imo, definitely do it. Crushing the game with ridiculous luck manipulation on a boss by boss basis is one thing, but crushing all the bosses in one battle is another.

I figure this is probably a known issue, but it still makes things a little more difficult/inconvenient than they could to be: - The gens ramwatch doesn't have a hotkey config (easy enough to understand). - The watch dialog doesn't save window position/autoload a specific watch file - No recent watch files are recorded - Probably the most annoying - The ramwatcher disappears when a new movie is loaded. The window position and current watch list are saved in this instance, but cleared when the program is closed.

Eh, ran just fine on with 1.2 for me in dega 1.14. Technically, this run was rather impressive. Having played the game in my youth, and spending hours upon hours grinding for enough money to get good armor, the ice digger, etc. watching this tas, it blows me away how fast it can be beaten. On an entertainment level however, to be honest, it's kinda boring, since it's pretty much just a shitload of grinding with the occasional sprinkle of story that you're likely to miss. For now, I'm unsure as to how to vote. I'll get back to that later after I've thought about it.

Then we will do a run off vote for the top 2
I know I said this on irc, but I'll say it again just because: even if the result may be heavily one sided, not even giving it the oppurtunity seems like poor form, when it was said to be happening.

I would agree that it was dull, however, I would also comment that it looks too "rigid" in terms of the movement. Question: does filling the guage with rings/jumps get you a longer overall boost than using it partially when you did?

Actually, as things go, by the point that you can get chips from the chip trader, the only people who will actually be using them in battle are the other members of your liberation party, as a buster program bug allows charged shot damage to be dealt by regular shots, so in almost all cases, it'd be faster just to shoot things to death in combination with a buster up chip or two.

I think AKA is misunderstanding this award category completely. This isn't "rookie taser of the year" which is an award that you can only enter once, as it were. This is essentially "new console taser of the year" which means the new consoles that were added: psx, nds, pc*, etc. Presumably next year these will be seperated into new categories, and not lumped as one.

How about "use one of the emulators that you mentioned which emulate it faster"?

My opinion on a 100% for X3 is that Bit/Byte should be killed, and Vile should be left alive (if fought at all) instead. While this prevents you from getting Zero's saber, and thus disallows easily clearing the remainder of the game, I feel that it'd be too similar to the existing run to be worthwhile to produce, instead merely adding time for additional (unused) abilities. On the flip side, this would allow the viewer to see 2 bosses normally not seen in a TAS, and the remaining bosses be crushed in a more interesting way than "slash with the saber twice," and also has the benefit of giving the best ending.

It's on the todo list, perhaps within a few months? Depends on how well certain factors go, since X isn't quite as dominating as Zero when it comes to boss slaughtering, and he also has an additional boss fight to take care of.

Well I certainly wasn't expecting this, and certainly not in 28 minutes. It was nice and colourful, with a good variety of soul usage, I liked it.
