I kinda liked that bullet trick. Was an OK watch.

I think having runs for individual characters allows a game to have four runs.

English is the lingua franca of this community, so it's polite to submit movies using the English versions of the games, when possible. Now, I'd add a caveat to the above -- if language is basically irrelevant (e.g. in a game like Gradius), then I don't see why a Japanese ROM couldn't be used. I haven't watched this movie, though, so I couldn't say one way or another.
Everything is still in English, even on the Japanese ROM. But since it seems to be necessary, I'll try to get around to fix it for the (U) ROM. I had a few attempts, but the randomness is screwed.

Why doesn't Megaman5 belong to the Megaman list?

The movie desynchs with the (U) version, so they are not exactly the same. There might be no other difference than the intro timing, but I don't know for sure. (To me it seemed that the Japanese version has faster intro. Just a guess based on how the movie desynched.) Maybe the version shouldn't matter that much, but ignoring the versions can cause problems in the future, when comparing movies to each other. Even minor graphical differences have caused interesting discussion here. I would recommend editing the file to pass the (U) intro, just for fun and testing. Playback with different versions can sometimes result in surprising findings about the game.
I was able to hex-edit it up to the last boss succesfully, with a cost of 3-4 frames. The boss fight I wasn't able to get to sync, so I'll re-do it when I time to do it.

Dunno, I often tend to download the Japanese version instead of USA. They're the same anyway, so it shouldn't matter.

I got desync at the same place, but what I saw was cool.

In my opinion it was objectively judged. For me, a regular player who doesn't have in-depth knowledge of Super Metroid, the goals seem kind of confusing for following reasons: 1) There is already a low% TAS published. 2) Doesn't use glitches, except it does? 3) I don't see a reason to make a fifth category for Super Metoid TASes. I haven't watched the TAS yet, but I certainly will. I'm sure it' a good run, but I don't expect to see anything groundbreaking that would make this new category valid for publishing.

I started the TAS with I can't even remember how old version, and finished with 1.4.0. So maybe try that.

Maybe I missed some detail, but couldn't it have been faster to use the Star Fire as the final hit in the "wall boss" refight? Now you used Comet Flash and it seemed that the three targets got hit in sequence as opposed to the possibility of hitting them simultaneously with Star Fire.
I'd have to wait for the Star Fire sprites to move out of the screen before the boss fight ends. Also I use comet flash for the first hit simply because star fire takes too long. Unfortunately, the tarolisk boss doesn't seem to have HP. Just takes seven hits. For example, simple punch is enough, although normaly a kick does more damage than punch. Also if people have problems with finding the ROM, some sites may have it as Sky Blazer (U) (without [!]). That should be the same ROM.

Dear Bisqwit, How much does one's ego affect on everyday life? What would change if people were anonymous?

Just wanted to say that your WIP's are awesome and they've helped my console run of the game a ton so far.
I'm glad to hear that. :) Is your speedrun complete?

Your link to the WIP doesn't work for me, mudlord. If you're still working on the run, send me a PM or whatever. I have tons of information for possible glitches and routes for all levels. I actually have a WIP that completes more than half of the game. Just I'm too lazy to complete it.

A nice thread. I gave it a try too. I tried Mega Man 4 (U) with poor results. I attempted to do a legit speedrun of it way back. God I'm rusty now. Was just too awful not remembering/able to execute all the tricks. Did not complete the game, not even close to. ^^

I've never really liked using a gamepad for anything other than console gaming. In fact, if given the choice, I probably would prefer the keyboard for that as well. There are two games for which I can legitimately say I'm pretty good at them: Rockman and Street Fighter Alpha 3. I'm no longer playing them, but when I did, I used a keyboard. I played a pretty mean V-ism Akuma, too...
I always found it hard to imagine how it is even possible for one to play Rockman so skillfully with a keyboard. I prefer using a gamepad for both playing and TASing (no, I don't have any published TASes). Even for 2player TAS I used a gamepad.

Holy shit! When you and Baxter were making the quadruple run, I thought it was too much to handle. Little did I know. I'm not going to set up the emulators now as I don't even have FCEU at the moment. But perhaps I will later.

It's funny how much drama one single frame can create.

To be honest vote would go for Excitebike if it was listed here. But Legacy of the Wizard will do. edit: Nevermind, Excitebike TAS was made 2006.

You can't really abuse Item1 so much in Flashman stage. And there's the huge zip in Heatman stage too.

By the way, my WIP which I had posted here long time ago, has 12 frames faster intro stage. Fractalfusion may want to check it out if he's every into re-doing it. edit: click
