The level comments explain it; most of the real-time saved throughout the run is lost to a 50k time bonus tickdown in Mystic Cave 2.

The idea to put pencil to paper on this subject came about after I read (and agreed with) the criticisms in the AGDQ 2017 thread which noted that there was very little explanation this year of what TASes are/do. Verbose: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Cn6_oPosbwl76xvi3kG1T8vZfH_yxQoMDQb49n72SOo/edit?usp=sharing Less Verbose: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WS7FFpOC_eID0No4O1daNDKuY-EaCS59WiIs0cYfbOA/edit?usp=sharing Commenting is enabled on both. Ideally I'd like to see whomever presents TASBot at the next GDQ we attend use some of what I've (and hopefully, we've) written here.

I can be found at [LUE] boct1584 on Steam, and Skywalker1584 on PSN and Xbox Live. I just picked up Destiny for PS4 and am having immense fun with it; as far as Steam goes, I have tons of games on my external and am willing to play most of them, just need the invite.

Having seen your Twitch rebroadcast of the presentation you made for GeekPwn, I figured you were using the SNES as a go-between for the video of the SM64 and Portal, but I didn't realize the two NESes were still running and providing the audio. Well done, and great explanation. I was also stoked to see Gradius make it in and successfully sync.

If in a year we continue here, it would be fun to redo the project or maybe try with Son1ic and Tails or in Sonic Classic Heroes, with Lightning shield and extra abilities :P But idk if SCH is allowed for submissions
You can submit runs of any hack you want. The hack is judged alongside the run, both as its' own game and as a derivative of whatever the base game is.

No, no no! You don't announce a release date! You wait and you drop it with no warning to minimize the changes of getting C&D'd before release! ESPECIALLY with Nintendo!

Ice Cap Zone transitions seamlessly from Act 1 to Act 2 before the Act 1 boss; if I remember correctly, the trick is to position the camera such that it passes below the boss (so it never locks the screen) then wrap off the left edge to the right edge.

I had enormous problems with a Seagate Expansion Desktop drive. First one started failing, warranty claim. New drive, swap my data and send the bad one back, starts failing. Warranty claim, new drive, swap my data and send the bad one back, starts failing. Warranty claim, new drive, swap my data and send the bad one back, install Acronis Drive Monitor, note that the drive is running VERY hot when under any use (close to to 50C, which product specs say is the maximum safe temp) so I take off the hard plastic shell, stick the drive and its' USB docking collar in a rubber sleeve I had left over from when I had a USB IDE/SATA bridge, and also stick it in front of the desk fan I use to cool my desktop with aftermarket video card with no working fan. Since all that, it's been fine.

For anyone who hasn't been looking closely at the userfiles, hoandjzj recently finished a 100% Redesign TAS, and it is glorious. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/35587478984145927 Hoandjdj's encode on his channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogJt2wmHlhY&t

I'm not a Super Metroid TASer, but I think even if it doesn't turn out faster, your route would be a fun watch. As far as the Ice Beam, the Mockball is indeed sufficient to clear the gates. I've done it in casual play.

Awesome. I'll have to watch the VOD cause I'll be at work, but I will definitely watch.

Okay, one tiny question, what's the point X-attacking on the Archie fight? It raises the attack stat from -1 to 0 (because Intimidate) but then you crit anything anyway which ignores the attack drop you would have had without the X attack.
isn't that gen1 mechanic for CH?
I was under the impression that it worked like that in every gen.

That was spectacularly fun to watch. I would probably agree with you about Gunstar Heroes being the best game on the Genesis if I wasn't such a huge JRPG fan. (Love me some Phantasy Star.)

Gotcha. I assumed when the commentary said that having the Frog Suit would be faster, it meant overall faster, not just for that level.

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/35083533115863947 Another take. Seems that the only real way to speed things up is to kill the bosses faster.

hi, the run seem well planed and exept the loong mother brain / ridley fights is pretty good and clever. now a techincal question doesn't ridley's flame or MB ball drop give drop allowing the player to refill their missile or is it a technical overlook from the developers ?
No, neither of those attacks drop anything.

Speaking specifically to the 14% branches that exist, I wasn't around for the discussions surrounding them, but it is obvious that people voted for them to be published. My issue is not with them being published but with them being published side-by-side, as again it is a routing decision, which should not be reflected as a separate branch in my opinion.
Personally, I think that since the two variations of 14% offer distinct viewing experiences owing to the way strategies change depending on whether Speed Booster or Ice Beam is taken, it's not a problem. I'll be the first to admit that this loses a lot of traction when we go down to 13% since there's like five different ways to do it, but solutions and opinions don't have to be perfect.

I'm curious, how much time is it to enter a Toad house as compared to how much time would be saved with a Frog Suit for 3-F2? Because if memory serves, the Toad House in the secret part of World 2 is a guaranteed Frog Suit, and it's right on the way.

I have absolutely no clue about Baseball as a sport or this game. This encode might actually be desyncing and I wouldn't know. Link to video
Based on what I was able to decipher of the submission text, that encode is correct: he edits one player's stats to make him godlike, and wins a 1-inning game by having that player hit a home run in the bottom of the inning.

Y'know, there's one thing I never got about this game. Beat the game on Normal to unlock Hard? Sure, lots of games do that. Beat the game on Hard to unlock Easy? Excuse me, what? Anyway, done watching, loved it. Yes Vote.

I like that definition. The Buster Max part would accelerate the hell out of the game if you DID play on Easy, but it would also likely make it less interesting.
