1. The Metroids are immune to Power Bombs in this hack, so you need the Ice Beam, which is at Mama Turtle, which is gated by a metal door linked to the Red Space Pirates in the room below Mt. Everest, which can only be destroyed by the Screw Attack. 2. No, there's not. Ridley's death unlocks that metal door.

It is a good attempt but the optimization is not good enough to gain a yes vote from me.
Where are you seeing optimization issues? I'm a layperson at Super Metroid, and to me it looked fine throughout.

I love this game, but I always thought that final promotion was a huge let-down and I’m okay with it not being in the final encode.
That's fair! Just wanted to offer my opinion.

I stand by what I said in the Youtube comments; if it's not too much work, I'd change the ending to do Simian Acres Time Trial before Echo Marches Time Trial, so you get "Now go for Platinum!" and then the run can end on the final promotion to "You can stop now." IMO the speed trade-off is worth it if it can be done easily, especially since you're already trading off by not using Carrier View.

Really glad this TAS made its way to TASvideos. I caught this on YouTube a while back and was impressed with the craftsmanship of the playthrough. I know changing from the carrier view to the helicopter view reduces lag from all of the explosions and effects, but then you don't get to see anything that makes the game fun. I think that's a fair trade off. Yes vote!
Exactly my thoughts too. Easy Yes vote.

You would probably be better off uploading this to the Userfiles and seeking feedback in the SNES Games forum.

Is there a reason the encode in the submission ends by pausing as Bowser comes on screen?

I came across this again in my YouTube recommendations and I think this would be a good fit for Playground. Thoughts?

There isn't one. I was saying there should be.

Late on the draw, but how about a sticky in the GB/C forum indicating the disallowment? Like there is in the SNES forum for the disallowment for SNES9X 1.43.

I like the goal, which I've tested myself some years ago. I didn't manage to make this movie mostly because I haven't figured out the best way to solve the "8 stars" requirement.
Back when romhacks required prior approval, a patch to set 8 completions for FDS SMB2 was approved, for exactly this reason.

Doesn't trying that just result in him doing the splits and not actually punching? Or am I thinking of MK2?

How much time would it cost to substitute one of the visits to door 8 with a visit to door 3? I agree that seeing all of the escape sequences would be a worthwhile tradeoff to make the movie more interesting.

The spot in Donut Secret House where it reverses reminds me of the indie game And Yet It Moves.

I played this game a ton growing up and seeing the absolute mockery you have made of it was so cathartic. I made it past the kraken stage, but that was it. Yes vote.

Most likely the input file includes the credits. Good speed record here, probably publishable as a Standard movie. I do wonder, however, could you quickly take a hit in each round to skip the Flawless Victory jingle?

Back at the Red Sprite, we sell our items and buy a level 1 Shiva for 1652 macca. Shiva comes equipped with 3 of the most useful skills in the game: (1) Jihad, an almighty damage type spell that also lowers the enemies stats; (2) Endure, a passive skill that lets the demon revive once automatically in battle; (3) Victory Cry, a passive skill that restores the demon's HP and MP after battle. Shiva also nullifies Expel and Curse damage, and drains Physical, Fire, and Electric damage. To be able to afford Shiva, we give the demon 1 in every stat except magic, which needs to be 30 to provide enough MP to cast Jihad.
I'm fairly sure that generating arbitrary passwords to do things like this is not allowed. If there isn't actually a rule about it, then this is a good time to implement one. (As described by a friend of mine, the password system in Strange Journey allows for completely arbitrary combinations of species/level/stats/moves, and has been reverse engineered to the point of having sites online to generate passwords. Comparisons were made to the original Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games.)

I'll give this a watch at some point. I will say, however, that the Userfiles section of the site (https://tasvideos.org/Userfiles ) would be a better place for a run like this that isn't trying to be a TAS record. On the other hand, though, using Butterfree as your sole battler could be seen as a "suboptimal character" challenge run, and be publishable on those grounds.

Ah true, I forgot you can't directly play them after level 9. I guess it's why the SNES version was used instead. So your ending is probably fine.
Back when hacks/unofficial games required prior approval, a patch to SMB2J to unlock A-D was one of the approved "hacks."

I will register the same complaint I always do in these runs. Why do you destroy weapon pods and other such things if you don't need the pickups? To me that violates the spirit of pacifist.
I think it's to gain more score from destroying the pods, so you can earn more extra lives and use death abuse. In fact, without that, I think you'd be forced to destroy one of the snow tanks in Stage 5, which is IMHO a bigger violation of the pacifist rules. At least shooting the weapon pods doesn't result directly in death to an enemy.
If that is in fact the reason then I agree the trade is worth it, but this it at least the third time I've asked about it (at least in reference to Contra series runs) and the only answer I've ever gotten is "weapon pods aren't alive" which was supremely unsatisfying.

This would be a great opportunity to revive the SpeedTAS concept from 2016. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXLP-L2ZgpQ Simply: RTA runners get X amount of time to practice a game. TASers have Y amount of time to make a TAS and submit it to the marathon. Fastest TASes are played on stream vs RTA runner for comparison.
