It's obviously not low-glitch, and I agree with your assertion that such runs are better suited for FireRed/LeafGreen. But as I've been asserting, I believe the wrong warp glitch/arbitrary code execution runs and runs like this one are distinct enough to warrant separate publication in the Moon tier. I think this run would have the tags "Heavy glitch abuse" and "Foregoes time-saving glitches" at the least. Whereas the current run I believe would be properly tagged "Heavy glitch abuse," "corrupts memory," and "executes arbitrary code."

[2457] GB Pokémon: Blue Version "warp glitch" by MrWint in 28:07.28: Plays for 27 minutes and collects a single Gym Badge, then skips to the Hall of Fame scene via arbitrary code execution. Uses the Trainer-Fly glitch to catch Mew to enable the arbitrary code execution exploit. [950] SGB Pokémon: Blue Version "trainer escape glitch" by primorial_soup in 1:18:58.78: Collects 7 badges out of 8 (reducible to 6 now), and plays a significantly greater amount of the game. Uses the Trainer-Fly glitch to catch Mew, but uses it as a battler instead of to enable arbitrary code execution. Skips things using the Glitch City glitch followed by the "jumping over a ledge when you get called out of Glitch City" glitch and warping out of the Safari Zone entrance via death by poison damage. I can elaborate further if you feel I need to.

To cite my initial example, I believe that [950] SGB Pokémon: Blue Version "trainer escape glitch" by primorial_soup in 1:18:58.78 is still a very good movie by today's standards. (Lots of opinions follow because I am not a Pokémon TASer.) primordial#soup noted that he accomplished all of the luck manipulation using a 2-frame buffer for each instance of manipulating something, which is pretty damn good. I believe the only trick the movie doesn't include is the Brock skip.

Direct link to the Creative Commons license page: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/ The short version is that it just says you have to give credit where you used the other persons' work. There was a LOT of brouhaha about whether copying strategies is the same as copying input when [1860] GBC Pokémon: Yellow Version "save glitch" by p4wn3r in 01:09.63 was submitted, because it was a direct re-creation of a movie by gia, but he (gia) never submitted it or released the VBM, so p4wn3r was basically recreating it from scratch. I believe the final consensus was was summed up in the analogy "the strategies are like a recipe, the final input is like a cake. TASVideos accepts cakes, not recipes."

Your point is well made. I was just asking a question.

I had forgotten he never submitted that run. Wasn't it linked to in one of the movie descriptions for the glitched branch?

That run is extremely outdated. inichi did a testrun which beat that one by almost an hour.

Further off topic, what the hell happened to Deign? On-topic: I agree that TASes are a form of conceptual art insofar as they take something and do unexpected things with it. But your acronym is silly and ineffectual.

Well now, that's a neat piece of hardware. I wonder if it could be made to work with a NES?

[950] SGB Pokémon: Blue Version "trainer escape glitch" by primorial_soup in 1:18:58.78 is the first one to come to mind. All of the future movies in the obsoletion chain use either the wrong warp glitch or arbitrary code execution. The one I linked does neither, and it's an absolutely fantastic watch for it. Completely different from all of the future ones. Hell, the very next one in the chain ([1700] SGB Pokémon: Red Version "warp glitch" by p4wn3r in 41:02.38) notes that it does things completely differently from the first one and that the first one is worth checking out.

I remember reading somewhere that each missile upgrade saves maybe 5 seconds, to a certain number. The item collection splash takes about 3 seconds, I think, so the net gain is negligible.

You could always get Metronome when you go to Cinnabar Island for the Blaine fight. It would be late in the run, but personally I think the entertainment value of seeing Clefable use Metronome into the perfect answering move would be worth it. I still remember one time, playing Blue, my last Pokémon against Giovanni in Silph Co. was a high-level Electabuzz I had traded for, with Metronome. Last turn before it faints from poison, I try to use Thunderpunch. It ignores me and uses Metronome into Horn Drill to OHKO Giovanni's last Pokémon.

Looking forward to your true WIP! Warsong was a favorite game of mine back in the days of KGen as my preferred Genesis emulator.

My laptop's fan needs the center bearing re-oiled, but it's set up such that it would probably be less hassle and less expensive to just buy another of the same model on eBay and swap the hard drive.

I think adelikat's Gradius run is a perfect demonstration of what can be accomplished under TASing conditions. Personally I'd love to see Genisto's SMB3 playaround too, but that's WAY too long.

A great man once aid, "If it was easy, it wouldn't be worth doing." I haven't watched this yet, but here's what I think based on the feedback so far. If you want SimCity to be the only thing you TAS, this move might be sufficient. If you want to eventually learn to TAS other games, learning how to use memory-watch and figure out RNGs will be invaluable.

That was a great run. Easy Yes vote. It's really too bad TASes like this need to focus on power-leveling one fighter. Seeing different strategies with different teams is one of my favorite things in games like this. Same reason I was disappointed with Hoandjzj's Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship 2011 TAS.

Cyber Stein has been Forbidden for almost its' entire existence. Destiny Board (F.I.N.A.L.) takes 5 turns. I don't think anything would be "faster" than Exodia; I was thinking in terms of enjoyability. Seeing the whole game beaten with only two decks deprives you of the entire point of Yu-Gi-Oh, which is building cool decks. (EDIT: Which was also my big beef with how this current playing format (March 2013) has been defined. Ever since Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy was released in May, you basically had 2 choices of deck to build if you wanted to play at top tables at Tier 2 sanctioned events; Dragon Rulers, or Jowgen/Kycoo Spellbooks. Both of which were ungodly expensive.)

What sets can be unlocked via gameplay or other means? Although I kinda doubt that using the 8-digit card codes from the real-life cards would fly in an "official" TAS.

As a serious Yu-Gi-Oh! enthusiast, I'd like to know a few things.
  • What real-life sets does this game have cards up to?
  • Does the game's Forbidden and Limited List mirror a real one? And if not, what does it look like?
Questions aside, I'd like to go on-record as thinking that a game like this is far more deserving of a superplay than a speedrun. There are so many decks you can build in so many ways, that seeing the game obliterated by just two is kinda sad.

I would argue that the -monogatari series are perfectly worksafe. Nisemonogatari has some questionable moments (especially episode 8) but nothing outright pornographic. Like I mentioned, I watch tons of stuff. A few that have stuck out:
  • Cowboy Bebop (dub)
  • Trigun (dub)
  • Angel Beats! (sub)
  • Monogatari Series First Season (Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Nekomonogatari Black) (sub)
  • Card Captor Sakura (sub) (there is no dub, only a Nelvana hackjob which made it a completely different show)
  • Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! (sub)
  • Hyouka (sub)
I'm sure there are more, but I lost about 250 discs (mostly DVDs) of archived fansubs when our basement flooded last month and two of my CD binders got ruined.
