Misspoke there a bit. I think it's a bit like what one of the judges said in that thread: the end result may be the same, but a different/adapted route was taken to get there.

This comes back to when gia got all pissy about p4wn3r's re-creation of his run. The result may be the same, but the method to get there may have been different/not used the previous effort as a base.

I think there's a Lua script somewhere to help facilitate multi-track recording.

Instead of forcing a level 1 challenge by hacking the ROM, why not just do a "no EXP" challenge? It comes to basically the same thing, and if it's interesting enough, you could refine it and submit it.

That was really good. Lots of fun to watch. Easy Yes vote for Moons or better.

The ring boxes, if I recall correctly, do not count toward getting the Perfect Bonuses, so my suggestion is to define your goals thusly, from most to least important:
  • Obtain the Perfect Bonus in all levels possible.
  • In levels where the Perfect Bonus cannot be obtained, collect as many free-floating rings as possible.
  • Beat the game as fast as possible.

As far as I know, Felipe was the one who worked on this project. And don't forget about the crisis of Sonic TAS world. Almost no activity anymore... If you are serious about the project, think of the level of optimization that you are going to reach. Considering the fact that this run has almost no chance to be accepted, it does not make sense to fight for every single frame. I would suggest you a much easier goal - beat Felipe's times. It's more than enough to get your run appreciated by public.
Consider the restructuring the site went through when the three-tier system was introduced. Unorthodox goals such as this are the entire point of the Moon tier. I think that if Felipe's run was UnGrued right now, it would stand a good chance of being accepted. feeuzz22, if you are committed to this, let me make this suggestion: Complete every level instead of skipping with level select as Felipe does; in the levels where the Perfect Bonus is unattainable, simply get as many rings as you can.

You could try XSplit for capturing your playing, but I don't know if local recording is available with the free version; never tried it. If not, you could try streaming to Twitch (which is what XSplit is ostensibly for) and then sideloading the broadcast to youtube.

I recently rewatched the TAS done by AB1 sometime last year, and got interested in trying my hand at running this game. Anyone know of resources like Lua scripts for hitboxes?

I was reasonably entertained by this run. I'm not qualified to comment on optimization since I don't run Mega Man games, but I vote Yes for Moons on the basis of that entertainment.

Before I watch, a question. Is the Magnet Beam required to beat the game? If it is not, then you should not have broken the "Buster-Only" rule to get it.

Are you trying to record an AVI as you play, or record an AVI of your input movie?

Why would it not be publishable? Goal choice flexibility is part of the point of the Moon tier, and having completed the NBMB challenge to 72% in real-time, I can personally attest that the challenges it presents would make for great watching. EDIT: I see the idea of glitching into Tourian like the glitched run does as being analogous to [1609] NES The Legend of Zelda "Swordless Challenge" by Baxter in 25:13.92. In both instances, it's done (or will be done) to provide the means to beat the game and give the movie a definite ending point.

I think the entertainment in this is sufficient to warrant publication as a Moon.

Can you elaborate on which items specifically should be left until after Ridley?

If I remember this game correctly, as soon as one player morphs, the other player will automatically get to morph too, so you should only need to split meter if you want both players to be able to use power attacks against the bosses.

This was brief and entertaining enough to me. I think it's worthy of a Moon. EDIT: Also, are you the same Marco Laranja as this account? If so, why did you register over again? The staff REALLY does not like people having multiple accounts.

Those who don't understand point 2, it's like this, if I understood the discussion in the new SMW submission properly. The SNES's controller ports can read 16 bytes of data at once, but the controllers themselves only transmit 12 bytes (4 face buttons, Start and Select, L and R, 4 directions, each taking 1 byte.) Since the controller ports can read more than the controllers can transmit, that means the 4 "blank" bytes can be used for other purposes; in the case of the recent glitched SMW submission, in combination with memory corruption, they help brute-force the game into running the ending sequence.

You CAN add extra input to look cool, but by its' nature, this TAS would only be publishable to our Vault tier, which is solely for record times. There would be no point. If you want to make a movie that looks cool, check some of these out for pointers: [1864] N64 Mortal Kombat Trilogy "Endurance Mode" by SDR & Thevlackdemonn2294 in 23:55.92 [934] SNES Mortal Kombat II "playaround" by VANDAL in 22:43.68 [1955] SNES Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 "playaround" by SDR, Thevlackdemonn2294 & Dark Noob in 30:28.38

Yes, stopping your movie after you release LK to deliver the final Bicycle Kick would work. As I mentioned, TASVideos provides some space for users to upload movies (http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/); you can upload the revision there, and a judge/admin can replace the submission file.

The input files for movies here run for just long enough that no further input is needed for the game to proceed through the ending and credits; the movie encoders simply continue encoding past the end of the input file, until the ending and credits have played.
