He's right. If he'd any%ed through Wing Fortress just because there's no score tally, I'd've voted No in a heartbeat, because that would have been completely at odds with the rest of the run.

My post from earlier in the topic still stands. "This should be published, but a run that does play the levels you skipped should obsolete it, if submitted."

I halfway agree with Heisanevilgenius; I think you should have played through the levels you skipped, but I also think that getting as many rings as possible in those levels is an acceptable substitute for the Perfect Bonus.

The goal of the run is to achieve the Perfect Bonus in as many levels as possible. Since the ring monitors don't count, why should more time be taken getting them?

Enthusiastic Yes vote, although I would argue that a run which collects as many rings as possible in the levels where you CAN'T get the Perfect Bonus should obsolete this if it's published.

I think the Zero All Stages run is obsoleted by any 100% run. My thoughts for categories are this: * X-only any% * Zero-only any% * X-only 100% * Zero-only maximum collection, minus capsules (IIRC, there are some items Zero can't get to because he can't destroy blocks that X's Gaea Armor can.) (I say "minus capsules" because they do nothing for Zero aside from the Ultimate Armor capsule.)

I say you should stick to taking no damage. If it takes longer, that's fine.

That restriction sounds like it'll work. Before I get started in earnest, one thing I haven't quite figured out yet. How do you determine which character you get when you enter a level from the Sound Test? EDIT: Another few restrictions I think I'm going to place on myself. No abuse of vertical screen wrapping (although I don't know if you can do that without jumping anyway,) and no zipping of any kind. I want to show off as much of each level as I can.

Okay, marzojr makes a good point. What if I stipulate that I can reverse gravity up to a set number of times in the air? I would think once in midair (to land back on the ground) would be sufficient.

Call it "Maximum Item Collection," maybe?

I have no idea what you're talking about. I've played the game through under these conditions before, and you can most definitely lose your rings when hit.

Are you supposed to farm the Shyguys carrying red coins, or is that a glitch?

This is an idea I had for a challenge run a while ago, and I think I'm going to bite the bullet and try to do it myself. I'd like a challenge in my life aside from my job, and that's more a question of endurance than an actually challenge. Stipulations are as follows:
  • Play as Sonic alone
  • Use Debug Mode
  • May not enter item-placing mode
  • All aerial maneuvering must be accomplished by using the Debug Mode's "Reverse Gravity" function (Button A), similar to the indie game VVVVVV.
  • As per VVVVVV, cannot reverse gravity in midair (no building up insane vertical momentum. Also, it trivializes the challenge when combined with tool-assistance.)
  • Sonic may jump ONLY if he is on an object which he cannot otherwise escape from. (some objects, such as the barrels in Carnival Night Zone, will simply flip you to the opposite surface when you reverse the gravity.)
  • Any% run aside from those stipulations (no jumping means no transforming.)
Does anyone see any problem with these stipulations?

I think you should have used Grand Prix mode, as it displays your total time at the end. Here, you exit the levels after finishing so quickly that we have no chance to see what your completion time is. Voting Meh for that reason.

How does one improve a 2-frame movie by 3 frames?

If I recall correctly, mmarks was found to have committed some abuse of the voting system or something along those lines, on a previous account.

This looked reasonably optimized, but I don't think we need a "no upgrades" run that doesn't get the best ending. It's not that much faster. Voting No for bad goal choice.

How are you progressing so quickly when the vanilla YI 100% is taking so long? Are you not optimizing it as heavily? Even if that IS the case, these still look fantastic, definitely of publishable quality.

The method I saw posted here involved some editing of the ROM (so that monitors wouldn't flicker) and then using a camera hack and debug mode to take screenshots of each part of the level bit by bit, then combining them.

Done watching. My thoughts: Pure awesome for most of the run, interspersed with just a bit of boring, which you did you best to liven up. I had no idea you could hit Sniper Wolf with Stingers. Easy Yes vote.

Looks excellent. Yes vote, and looking forward to amaurea's inevitable comparison video.

While really well made I think that most of the entertainment in these games come from 100% completion runs as they shows off even more crazy skill. I am voting Meh. Sorry.
This is exactly how I felt as well.

I'd like to get on-record that I'd also like to see an Easy/Very Easy run that gets the Meryl ending, and doesn't skip any cutscenes or dialogue. A "100% plot" run, if you will. I watched the WIPs to the end of Disc 1; where in the current YT encode does Disc 2 start?

Did you watch bahamete's unsubmitted SMW: The Second Reality Project Reloaded? Try that to hold you over. Not as substantial as this because of the existence of warps (arranged in a similar fashion to SDW) but still very good.

The Gaea Armor, despite being slow, is actually a monster at bosses, because the charged shot results in almost no invulnerability time.
