If you're interested in giving TASing a shot for yourself, take a look at the Newbie Corner forum; there's some good information there. I'm mostly a spectator as well (I have 1 published movie) and I too recognize the amount of effort that goes into the TASes showcased here.

Aktan, your MP4 desyncs on a PS3 in the same way your MP4 for Rockman L desynced for me; the audio is about a second ahead of the video. Could you do a basic, no-fancy-size-reducing-gimmicks encode for those of us who watch on PS3s?

Your link got me to this, which is now going to be the first thing I buy for myself once I have extra money. Thank you.

There is a precedent for using (J) on Megaman 7, spweasel's bitching and moaning in the submission thread for your 100% notwithstanding.

Actually, no I hadn't watched it; no computer with emulators to watch it on. My bad.

Hard Relay Mario has been submitted before, and was rejected because the extreme difficulty isn't entertaining consistently enough. Plus, your run isn't even as fast as mushroom's first submission of HRM (I linked the second one.)

I think this deserves two runs, a fastest-time run and a maximum-score run, collecting as many bonuses as possible in each level.

Do you find real life unfulfilling?
I wouldn't go quite that far, but I haven't really done anything significant with my life, and that's disappointing to me.
Do you have a tendecy to avoid problems?
It depends on if the problem is something with the potential to piss me off; my temper isn't the best-controlled thing in the world, and if it pops, it's really fucking ugly.
Do you look for ways of escaping from stressful situations?
See above.
How long is the average speedrun?
I've only done a couple games to completion; one took about 15 minutes, the other took about 47 (but that was a testrun.)
Why do you speed run?
I enjoy watching games played extraordinarily, so it's mostly for my own benefit, although if I think the work is of sufficient quality, I'll submit it here.

Master of Orion, by Simtex, helped (along with Civilization) to pioneer the "4X" subgenre (Explore, Expand, Exploit, Extermainate) of the simulation genre. I don't know how entertaining a TAS would be to watch, but I wanted to put it out there, in case someone is interested. I might be, but I won't have access to my computer for at least another month. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_of_Orion

I saw a couple of superfluous shots early on, but beyond those, I thought it was played very well, and the level design was also good. Yes vote.

What I'm getting out of this is that he's using the published 102% as a template and just hex-editing improvements in, much as Upthrorn and marzojr have done with Sonic 3 and Knuckles. As long as permission from the author is granted, I don't see a problem.

My suggestion is that you open two copies of Gens, enable "run in background" and "accept background input" and compare it frame-for-frame with Jackic's 1-player run. I hate to be critical, but 1535 re-records for a 37 minute movie is REALLY low.

Why would he need to do that? If memory serves, the rule about needing prior approval for hacks was removed when HappyLee's Extra Mario Bros. was accepted.

I think a VR Training run should begin from a clear file, so you can do the alternate-goal missions for the game levels themselves. Not going to watch on account of only having computer access at the library.

I can't speak for the PSP titles, but MGS 4 requires separate installations for all five Acts; the installations are of varying sizes, up to 4GB, but none of them take more than about 3 minutes to do.

"Every level" means every level, and personally I'd also kill all the Hammer Bros, AND clear the bridge levels in World 8.

I think the best way to do an All-Stars SMB3 TAS is to exploit the crap out of the Left+Right glitch and also clear every level. I can't watch the SMVs linked here for lack of a computer that can run SNES9X, though, so if that's what's going on, my bad.

Didn't have a chance to test it; my computer is in Purgatory (long story) and I didn't think to test it on my parents'.

I had the audio desync on the mp4 when I played it on my parents' PS3. Don't know if it's just the PS3 being idiosyncratic or what, but I figured you'd want to know.

I shall also hold out hope that this is simply a stupidly elaborate April Fools' joke.

I want to go on-record as heartily disagreeing with the proposed idea to shut the site down. Just because it's theoretically impossible to actually TAS on a console doesn't mean the site isn't serving a good purpose; it provides entertainment matter to the visitors, and isn't that the goal anyways? I remember seeing somewhere on the site that "TASes aren't supposed to compete with speedruns," and the news that TASing is likely impossible on consoles does nothing to change that. I know my opinion doesn't count for all that much, but I think the site should stay open, with current time-based TASes staying up, but shifting to a focus on entertainment-based TASes. I think I saw this thought brought up before in this thread.

You might try dumping the video to a different format (as sgrunt suggested) then transcoding it to whatever codec you want with another program. I personally have had good results doing that with AVIDemux.
