http://www.vbalink.info/ VBALink supports up to 4 systems. I wonder how hard/easy it would be to TAS-modify it.

I think the "no horizontal underflow" goal is a little too broad, because (as I mentioned in the discussion topic) it leaves a bit too much room to skip "most" of an act without actually skipping the whole thing; the two most egregious offenders are Flying Battery 2 and Sky Sanctuary, both of which we barely see. It's not enough that I won't vote Yes, but I wanted to get that complaint on the record.

I disagree with the second goal on the grounds that it leaves a little too much room for skipping "most" of an act without skipping the whole thing. Flying Battery 2 and Sky Sanctuary come to mind.

In that case, why don't you go ahead and submit? It looks plenty optimized, and if you DO find further improvements, you can always cancel and resubmit or ask for a file replacement.

Suggesting games to learn to use the TASing tools...
That one. The two I suggested in particular really only require frame advance; I've been working on both in ZSNES off and on for the better part of two years, and have a Run Saber run published.

WhyAndHow would be a good place to start, IMO, in addition to embedding it there.

I did CutCo for a few months back in '04. The knives sell themselves if you know enough people that you can generate sufficient leads, which I sadly did not.

I think a dedicated topic for this is a good idea, for the newcomers/newbies who don't check the wiki. My suggestions are: SNES Run Saber: A straightfoward Strider clone; optimization comes solely from killing enemies in good time and moving quickly. SNES Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: A straightforward beat-'em-up; optimization comes from killing enemies efficiently. That's all I have right now; I'll trawl my ROMs folders for some more easy-to-TAS games tonight.

I would say a full-glitch Hypersonic run should start from SRAM to enable Hypersonic for the whole game. I would pay money to see that. I'd also pay money for a concept run using debug mode and never jumping unless absolutely necessary, instead using the "reverse gravity" button to maneuver.

ZSNES does sort of have memory viewing the cheat editor.
I was aware of that, but there's no way to keep an eye on it short of playing entirely in frame advance and checking the cheat editor after every frame. I don't think that's something a TAS-newbie is going to be doing.
If you want input display for a video after it's made, we have a tool to display input from a ZMV using the on screen commentary ZSNES has built in.
This I didn't know. Link to this particular tool?

Speaking as someone who's used both ZSNES and SNES9X for TAS production, I think ZSNES is worth a look for simpler TASes. Pros of ZSNES: Rewind button means you don't have to worry about maintaining multiple savestates. Cons: Random desyncs are more common due to core randomness (also seems to happen if you loaded a state after rewinding during the recording process) Lack of Memory Watch and Input Display makes it unsuitable for high-complexity TASes (Super Mario World, for example.) Just wanted to put this out there.

Also, the Force is falling behind in levels, due to the boss sniping. This is making manipulation a pain.
You could always stop boss-sniping.

I believe Viddler fits the bill.

Per recommendation, I played this game for a bit before watching the movie. This game is one of the most Nintendo Hard games I've ever played. The movie looked awesome. Yes vote, but a 100% kills movie would have been even cooler.

Quick warning about using Lemon: I've heard a lot of people complain about not being able to equip things to him when playing the ROM. I don't know if it's just people with bad dumps or what, but you might want to look into it.

Looking good, but I don't think what you did to Flying Battery 2 fits with trying to keep the run low-glitch.

I'm up in Ohio; if you enjoy thrill rides, I'd highly advise you to try and get to Cedar Point, on the Lake Erie shoreline. Awesome stuff there.

@Warp: I really enjoyed the Descent games. They also spawned the excellent Freespace space combat simulators, the second of which I still play to this day.

I was working on a TAS of SMW: The Second Reality Project Reloaded, but lost my interest when my partner quit because he believed his results weren't up to the quality of the published runs.
