I recall hearing that ISM is working on a 96-exit run, but that's all I know of. EDIT: Duh, it's on this page. Completely missed it because I used that "skip to new posts" button.

Yes, screamer. Figured that was coming as soon as I saw it was an SWF.

I think your entertainment tradeoffs were fine, but IMO you were making the wrong kinds of tradeoffs. For example, if you're set on showing off the series backstory, then talking to the scientists at Motavia Academy who tell you about the Great Collapse (the events of PS2) would be a better idea than just looking at the statue of Dr. Luveno. ("Lubetz" is a mistranslation.) I did approve of you touring the wrecked worldship outside of Nalya, though. Additionally, I think you should just bite the bullet and do all the sidequests. I would also approve of you using the Talk command every time it changes.

Are the Xe-A-Thoul's vulnerable to instant-death attacks? As for Lassic/Lashiec, I think he has Possession (sleep attack) so all you'd need to do would be to manipulate him into using that every turn.

I think Upthorn's suggestions make the most sense, but with the recent influx of crap/troll/joke submissions (a dozen in a month now, I think?) I say that we should restrict new users to 3 submissions a week.

Got to vote Meh on this one; while well-played, it was very boring.

Nitsuja, the link you posted only seems to work from Romhacking.net's page on Extra Mario Bros. http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/369/

You're almost arguing that TASes that use new glitches to go faster shouldn't obsolete the old ones... This kind of goes against what movie obsoletion has always been about here.
That isn't quite what I was trying to argue. In my opinion, the use of the "walk through walls" glitch in SprintGod's second S3&K run, and then the zipping glitches you and Upthorn have since used, puts it/them into a different category from the first one, which was a glitchless run.
TASes here are almost always about pushing the game to its limits so we can see (and have fun seeing) what those limits are. These runs you give examples of were no-holds-barred from the start and followed a natural progression of becoming both glitchier and more precise over time as new tricks and TASing techniques were discovered.
Very good point; I hadn't considered it in that light.
Now that we have a better idea of what the game's limits are, maybe we should make a version that intentionally goes easy on the game. Someone could try making a glitchless version of S3&K, where that's the goal from the start of making the movie. I'd like to see it (or make it if I had the time), although there's always been something unsettlingly arbitrary about "holding back" in a TAS, like, maybe it would be better to add goals that force showing off more of the game instead of adding restrictions.
I don't think that not using glitches is a bad restriction; it makes sense if you want to see the game played extraordinarily instead of broken and glitched through extraordinarily.
But I don't think it makes sense to repurpose SprintGod's first S3&K run like that. Mostly because, at least to me it looks quite bad compared to his second run even on the straightforward parts... it's just hard to forgive how low the precision is after seeing the later runs.
I haven't watched any of the recent S3&K runs recently, so I'll admit that you may be right on that. Considering the TASing skill you've demonstrated, it wouldn't surprise me to find that you're right. Even so, to a casual viewer, SprintGod's first run would probably still look pretty good compared to the later ones.

Have you seen the updated 14% run Saturn submitted? I voted for that one to be published both times it was in the queue.

I can think of a few offhand that I don't think should have been obsoleted. First: Terimakasih's Super Metroid 14% run, which was obsoleted by Cpadolf and hero of the day's 6% run. Admittedly, this has been beaten to death in the submission topic for Saturn's updated 14% run, so I'll keep it brief; the 14% beats the game legitimately, using a few glitches. The 6% glitches through almost the entire game via X-Ray Scope climbing out of bounds, and some RAM manipulation via dying to skip Mother Brain. The two really aren't comparable. Second: SprintGod's first Sonic 3 and Knuckles run, which was obsoleted by his second run. I think these two, again, aren't really comparable, for the reason that the second run uses the "scroll the screen and walk through stuff" trick, and the first one does not. I also don't believe that Nitsuja's first S3&K run should have obsoleted SprintGod's second one, for a few reasons. 1. Nitsuja's run used both Sonic and Tails, which gives a lot more options than Sonic alone. 2. Nitsuja's run (both of them, plus the current one Upthorn hexed improvements into) extensively used the "zip through level structure" glitch, in addition to the "scroll the screen and walk through stuff" glitch; SprintGod's second run did not use zipping. Third: hero of the day's Chrono Trigger run, which was obsoleted by inichi's glitched any% run. This is the same basic situation as the one I outlined for Super Metroid; hero of the day's run beat the game legitimately; inichi's glitched past almost all of it. The community has basically spoken on the Super Metroid 14% and Chrono Trigger runs, but I've heard nothing on the S3&K run, and so I wanted to propose that SprintGod's first S3&K run be removed from the obsoletion chain (essentially republishing it) and relabeled as a "low-glitch" run. Even when you compare it to the current S3&K movie, it still looks good. What do you think? And what are some movies you think should still be around? (Shout-Out™: Thanks to alden for his Golden Oldies page, which is how I found out about SprintGod's first S3&K run.)

Personally, I think you should restart and go low-glitch for this run, so you have more of an opportunity to show off Super Sonic (and later Hyper Sonic) and to further differentiate yourself from the current S3&K TAS; SprintGod's S3&K runs were both low-glitch (though his second one did use "zip off the side of the level" a few times) and both were very entertaining. (Do note I haven't watched either of your WIPs yet, been too busy, so if you're already going low-glitch, disregard this post.)

@Mitjitsu: As I recall the description of Genisto's most recent Air 1 movie, it's intended to be more of a puzzle game, and also intended to challenge one's knowledge of what can be done in the SMB engine.

I disagree with obsoleting the Air 2 run. I think the question that should be asked when a hack is on the Workbench is "Does this hack have something that the original game / currently published hack does not have?" In this case, I believe the answer is yes. Extra Mario Bros. brings Metroid-style exploration, power-ups, and item collection (the 1-ups) to the game, none of which was done by either Air or Air 2. If the answer is no, that's when the argument of having the new hack obsolete the old one would be valid, IMO. EDIT:

Perhaps a site rule of only allowing 2-3 hacks per (original) game to be published? New hack submissions would have to make a case for why their hack is better than the already published movies.
This idea had occurred to me as well, and I think it would also be reasonable.

I'm disappointed at the lack of "defenestrate" in that list. Favorite word ever.

How about a timer restricting how often you can use them without getting kicked/banned? Is that feasible?

The constant bunnyhopping was kind of annoying, but not enough to keep me from voting yes. Interesting route you took.

This was not a good movie. Pacifist style which was not entertaining and abandoned at a couple of seemingly random spots, bosses were definitely suboptimal...the only good thing was two players.

It looks like the flying trick for Volcano Castle requires some very good timing; not confident I can do it that well. Hey, NxCy or jimsfriend, either of you feel like co-oping the remainder of the run with me? I don't have sufficient patience to do the entire thing alone (which is why I originally asked for a partner) and (it appears) the two of you are probably better than I am at this anyway.

Don't feel too bad about it; I felt the same way after briefly working on a Megaman X 100% TAS. I don't think you should count yourself out; you've been one-upping me every step of the way (though the margin has been getting slimmer lately), and that's got to mean something. If you really are gonna step out, could you at least tell me the method you found for flying through Volcano Castle? I have no idea how you'd do it.
