Can someone explain how shell-jumping works? I haven't been able to do it yet. Or if it's just like P-Switch jumping, I'll go study that some more.

Simple: This movie doesn't use SRAM corruption, AND aims for a completely different goal than the SRAM glitched run. SRAM corruption should be a new category in every movie, as it already is (exception to Chrono Trigger, but it already opened the possibility to a non-SRAM-glitched run)
This isn't SRAM corruption, it's using the SRAM to manipulate the regular RAM.

Also, 14% is no longer the low percent threshold. For similar reasons there isn't a 16 Star Mario 64 run published.
It's not the same situation. Both the 16-star and the 0-star runs (and the precessor 1-star run) make use of backwards long jumping; the 0-star just makes use of it in more areas. As I mentioned when the submission was new the first time, I believe that the 14% run and the 6% run beat the game using sufficiently different methods to warrant both being published. Quoting my post for people who don't feel like digging back for it:

Voted 8 for entertainment, 9 for technical, and I believe this movie should be published because it goes about beating the game in an entirely different fashion from the 6% run. IMO, it's like the equivalent of Gia's Pokemon Yellow run and Primo's Pokemon Green run; both runs beat the game, but do it differently enough to warrant separate publication.
In addition, I think there should be tiers of "Abuses programming errors" tags for movies. This would be an "Abuses minor programming errors" run, whereas the 6% would be an "Abuses major programming errors" run.

TSRPR does not require the ROM to be expanded. @sixofour: Did you make sure to apply the patch to a headered ROM? @andymac: I'm likely not gonna be doing any TASing until the weekend (aside from maybe trying to get Mister's Lakeside Castle trick to work) so if you feel like redoing, knock yourself out.

I'm using SNES9X v1.43+ v13. ZSNES doesn't have Memory Watch, and it also has desync problems. The only TAS tool ZSNES has that SNES9X doesn't is the Rewind button.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/396762092/andymac%2BSolonTSRPR-WIP3a.smv Koopa Lake 1 sans fireflower. About 150 more frames faster. I'm going to be visiting family this week, so I probably won't be doing any more work on this until I'm back on Friday or Saturday.

New WIP. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1194029985/andymac%2BSolonTSRPR-WIP3.smv Slightly more than 2000 frames ahead of my test run; gained an additional 8 frames in Mole Ruins 2 from better hopping glitch optimization. Not quite as fast as andymac's was before I did my splicing with the TAS Movie Editor, but still pretty good. @Mister: Great trick, and I bet that would be faster than what I did in the test run, but I'm not confident I could pull that off. Would you mind optimizing it for us? If you don't, I'll go back and redo Koopa Lake 1 without getting the Flower.

After an extensive session with the TAS Movie Editor (awesome tool, by the way), I was able to get about half of andymac's Mole Ruins 2 to sync after splicing it into his Mole Ruins 1 SMV. I redid the remainder myself; I think I finally have 6/5ing down. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1320405659/andymac%2BSolonTSRPR.smv A couple of mistakes, but I wanted to get this posted. I'll go back and fix them tonight or tomorrow.

After doing some work on a SMW hack (The Second Reality Project Reloaded) I've learned not to listen to music while I do higher-level TASing; it's too much of a distraction. This work has also taught me that ZSNES's lack of Memory Watch (plus the desync problems) is a fatal blow to using it for high-level TASing. ALSO:

8 frames is an acceptable margin, I think. I'll check it out, see if I can't use the TAS Movie Editor to splice in your Mole Ruins 2, and then I'll get to work on Koopa Lake 1 and Lakeside Castle. (And Mole Ruins 2 if I can't get it spliced in.) Just have to get 6/5ing down; it's been giving me no end of trouble in my attempt to redo Mole Ruins 1. Also need to figure out how to get the MHS program to work.

Type Matching: Defeat the Elite Four with no Pokémon above level 50.
I've done this. I was pretty proud of myself. Deus Ex (PC/PS2) Stealthy: Got through a mission set without being spotted Merciful: Freed the hostages in the Battery Park subway without killing any of the NSF troopers Merciful 2.0: KO'd or avoided the majority of enemies in the game. Long Distance: Killed an enemy from outside the accurate range of your weapon. Magic Words: Killed Gunther Hermann or Anna Navarre using their UNATCO killphrase.

Also, andymac, there is no such thing as too many WIPs. EDIT: Watched your test, NxCy, and I am really embarrassed. Definitely redoing Mole Ruins 1 now.

Looking very good, andymac. The only thing is that I think you should have gotten the fire flower where I did in the testrun, because we need to be Fire Mario by Lakeside Castle so we can shuffle a Cape Feather into the item box. Also, I think I'm gonna go back and redo Mole Ruins 1; looking at it again, I could probably save some more time by better manipulating Mario's speed when using the hopping glitch and and or 6/5 D-Padding. Do you have any experience with hex-editing? I've tried it before, but with no luck, and I think your Mole Ruins 2 is good enough to keep, aside from not getting the Flower. EDIT:I just remembered Maximus's TAS Movie Editor; I'll give it a try after I finish redoing Mole Ruins 1.

If I read the readme right, it's for use with the v1.51 line of SNES9X, not the v1.43 line.

Okay, I wasn't as far as I thought I was, so I just finished up Mole Ruins 1 (the first level), and I'm over 800 frames ahead of my testrun as of hitting the goal. Microstorage isn't responding for me, so Mediafire link for the time being. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?4kt2ywz3nmj And a few things I noticed that aren't in the SMWTricks page: After releasing a directional button in midair, it takes an additional 2 frames for Mario's speed to stop oscillating. From the frame Jump is pressed, it takes 3 more frames before Mario actually jumps.

Yay, I've got a partner. I'll finish up the first two levels tonight, and post the SMV (along with comparisons to my test run) some time tomorrow, after I'm done job-hunting.

Got a request. I do want to get a better run of this done (I've got my motivation back, I think) but I don't think I have a sufficient supply of patience to optimize a movie to even half the level of the published SMW/SDW runs by myself. Anyone feel like collaborating?

I was also pretty entertained by this one, and would certainly have voted yes had you not canceled it.

I would definitely watch those too; I just picked Gradius off the top of my head.

Personally, I'd like to see what adelikat could do with Gradius V or R-Type Final.

Yes, you also need all the Banana Birds, and as part of that you need to do almost all the bartering. I think the only thing you don't need to do is buy the mirror back from Barter.

Oddly enough, I was planning on submitting a "Combo Challenge" video as a concept demo, but I could never get past level 05.
I think clearing a level in as few combos as possible would be a worthy goal to attempt for another run, once the levels get too complicated to clear in one combo.

I was very entertained by this one. Easy yes vote, but I would say to publish it as a concept demo since you only play one level. A full 21-level run would be awesome to watch, if a little slow.

I'd like to see Radiant Silvergun full-chained.
