It's a hack. The game was modified so that it approximately (but not quite) works without FDS. I'm not supporting it.

What NES version?

I like how most of the Japanese-to-English sentences refer to the actions of some undefined "it".
That's because English is a subject-verb-driven language and Japanese is a topic-driven language. In Japanese, the subject is often omitted, so to make it valid English, a dummy subject needs to be added ("it"). For example, in Japanese you can say "gohan wa sakana", which translated literally is "as for meal, it is fish" (meal is topic, fish is subject). Verb is omitted. Or you can say "bikkurishita", which literally means: was surprised. The subject (who/what was surprised) is omitted. Often it's the one who says it. A machine translator would often translate it was "it was surprised".

I too would like to see a video utilizing all the different suits, but I disagree with the idea of an all-suit run. Though I would probably accept it if someone makes it, I don't want to encourage anyone into making it. Instead, I hope someone comes up with another idea of a SMB3 movie that introduces all the different suits in an entertaining and meaningful way.

It's fast, it's surprising, and good promotional material for this site. Those are the reasons.

A is jump. Holding B while moving makes Mario run (as opposed to walking). (B is also shooting, when you have the fireflower power.)

Maybe we could make a section for bad hacks, a place where people can make fake runs and laugh at poorly made hacks. That way they won't clog up the forums and get mistaken for real runs.
If you're ready to devote resources of your own website for running such site, go ahead, but I'm not taking part of it.

I don't think this point needed to be posted.

Hacks are allowed only on special permission. I think this solves most problems. Genisto didn't ask about Air beforehand, but I accepted it after careful consideration by looking at the game and its homepage in detail. But what Genisto did is not endorsed in general.

It worked when I enabled up+down. Apparently, you pressed up+down or left+right during that party scene.

Hmm, the movie desynced here, after having Ayla say "Crono, eat, sing, dance!" about 40 times (an example of how not to make movie interesting). The screen blanked, and nothing is happening anymore (except the music that plays).

EDIT: First-watching comments: I'd prefer it if you used your idle time (waiting for NPCs to do something) in a more interesting way than to stand still. When you don't, the movie kinda lacks a soul. It's just like a robot playing, computations of fastest actions... Surprise your audience. Do something that is cool and not required for the game completion. Don't be lazy, especially when it wouldn't make your movie any slower. Act multidimensionally. The fastest time is not the only goal to strive for. (I have no complaint of your speed, though. It's super.)

"You are impressive" bonus animations are interesting to see once or twice. Just don't do it every time. That's what principle I held in Kirby's Adventure as well.

I suppose, completing all the sidequests mentioned by Gaspar is part of that too. That is, all of these: (SPOILERS)

The star is not useful. There are no doors remaining that Mario needs stars to open. The last star is only acquired because it's needed to make the water shift away so that the last stage can be entered.

It seems I have tracked the origin of the problem. When a browser receives an invalid ZIP file, it is actually a GZIP-compressed ZIP file. gunzip it, and then you can unzip it too. What causes it is of course mod_deflate, since it's the only part of the site that may cause gzip-compression. It is intended to save bandwidth. So why is it broken? I suspect it's a problem in the browsers. They claim they can decompress stuff in transmission, but when it's a downloadable file, they forget to decompress it before saving. Some browsers. So how to fix it? DeHackEd, help! This is my /etc/apache2/mods-available/deflate.conf:
<Location />
  # Insert filter
  SetOutputFilter DEFLATE
  SetInputFilter DEFLATE

  # Netscape 4.x has some problems...
  BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4 gzip-only-text/html

  # Netscape 4.06-4.08 have some more problems
  BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4\.0[678] no-gzip

  # MSIE masquerades as Netscape, but it is fine
  # BrowserMatch \bMSIE !no-gzip !gzip-only-text/html

  # NOTE: Due to a bug in mod_setenvif up to Apache 2.0.48
  # the above regex won't work. You can use the following
  # workaround to get the desired effect:
  BrowserMatch \bMSI[E] !no-gzip !gzip-only-text/html

  # Don't compress images
  SetEnvIfNoCase Request_URI \
  \.(?:gif|jpe?g|png)$ no-gzip dont-vary

  # Make sure proxies don't deliver the wrong content
  Header append Vary User-Agent env=!dont-vary
</Location>

For the record, the error (in movie length calculation) was that the script read the FPS as 32-bit int, even though it's a 8-bit int.
