Put the frame skip back to auto (decrease it until it's on auto). After that, adjust the frame timing (seconds/milliseconds) only. The +/- may be different, depending on your keyboard layout - find the right keys by trial&error.

I don't understand what you mean. Did you watch the movie?

The pauses weren't disturbing to me. Most of the pauses were just 1-2 frames long - you could tell it blinked a bit but you couldn't say what was it. Some of the pauses were clear enough to see that there's a textbox in the middle of the screen, but none of them was clearly long. I liked this movie.

I have nothing against using up+a in this movie (although I don't know if it was intended as a debugging key). However, this presents a question (I hate these): If someone submits a movie that "beats" Arc's movie - using the same route and items, but because of using up+a, what should we do? I wouldn't like that happening, but if it happened, should the movie be rejected, or accepted as a successor to Arc's movie? I wouldn't make it a new category, because it brings not really anything new.

Does that mean that it's no idea to do anything in FCEU until this is fixed?
I don't like to revert rules, so FCEU is currently still accepted, but there exists this grave possibility that a submitted movie could have a doctored savestate that does something nasty to the game even when followed by a reset. The actual bit that should be changed in FCEU source code is here:
 // trigger a reset
 if(flags & MOVIE_FLAG_FROM_RESET)
  ResetNES(); // NOTE: this will write an FCEUNPCMD_RESET into the movie file
 if(!fname)
  FCEUI_SelectMovie(CurrentMovie,1); /* Quick hack to display status. */
 else
  FCEU_DispMessage("Movie recording started.");
This code is from src/movie.c, and instead of ResetNES(), it should call PowerNES(). I recommend doing this change to FCEU as soon as possible. It does not affect the playback of existing movies. Btw (Quietust, Nach, TNSe), FCEU fills the NES RAM to "FF FF FF 00" instead of "00".

Until it's fixed, you could patch your own FCEU to force reload of the rom when the reset bit is set. If the results aren't the same as when playing the unpatched version, something is probably fishy.
And I won't be accepting a solution that can't be automated (i.e. implemented in the webserver part that analyzes if the file can be even submitted).

We need either new rules, or a patch. Preferably a patch, because it's not obvious when this happens, neither for the recorder or the judges.
Currently I have no idea how to even detect it. I don't know how does a poweron savestate look like and if I can trust it's the same for all games. And I don't know if anyone is actually able to produce such a save for their movies. The motive for the rule is that 1. if the movie begins from a savestate, we can't know whether the savestate has been hacked 2. savestate-anchored movies are hard to compare.

This is indeed problematic - the movie is not poweron-anchored, but actually starts on a NES reset which is done after the settings have been set. It is the same as if you started the movie from a savestate - the reset is there only to circumvent the word of the rules. I don't think this is in concordance with the spirit of the rules. This demands discussion. Comments? As for the actual movie, it still has Baxter fighting against himself, but a lot less than dashziplockdash had. Which is good.

Don't cancel the movie yet (for the reset-question reason). I'll verify it. The site should automatically refuse FCEU movies that don't include a reset event (yes, it's an event, not a flag), but there might be a difference between power-down and reset.

As far as I know, nobody has been doing it since that. I attempted (smv file is here) it briefly in September 26th, but when I noticed that the first boss, Yakra, can't be beaten with zero experience, I haven't continued since. It requires way more planning than I'm prepared to. I chose to do it with the Japanese version, because: - the texts go so fast that understanding is not the biggest problem - the Japanese font renderer might be a little faster, because it has less work to do (always 12 pixels wide) - to find and demonstrate which game features were different in USA version - to make something fun to watch for Japanese people :) And I didn't use (or ask) for Sampyla's notes. Maybe I should have.

DKC and HnF can be considered. Of the other suggestions, I'm not so sure. If I don't enjoy the movie much myself, I don't feel like I can recommend it to others.

Hey, finally a name that sounds familiar. I have wondered where the "Peach" came from.

Change of heart? :)
I watched the movie again and I concluded that it can have a star after all, especially because of 8-4. :) Similarly, I gave a star for Metroid and Zelda as well. The description explains everything necessary. So much for that competence ;) Edit: I rewatched HnF a bit and I agree it looks unconventional enough to be promotional material. However, the movie description should be edited a bit first... To better introduce the movie for those who don't know the game at all.

Indeed - I wanted it up quickly, but a rating system is still the aim. And yeah, I added & removed a couple of "stars", and added a link to the front page listing all the best.

I'll remove the star from the Princess-only movie. I'm uncertain of the other suggestions. The movie should be able to impress even those who don't know the game, and Zelda and Metroid are very hard to judge for those who don't know them. I won't give SMB a star either, because the movie is more or less straightforward, and it looks too obvious. If you don't know the current non-toolassisted world record of a SMB, you can't even know how impressive the movie is. It requires external knowledge. I don't remember adding a star for SCV4, and I don't remember giving Phil the power to do that... Hmm. The core idea of the star is "this movie is promotional material for this site". But I'm open for arguments.

I thought of the same, and I believe it could be improved (maybe sub-9 minutes). The Princess run was created when and because none of the previous movies played a single level with Princess.

I like this movie. Even though it's long, it's good entertainment and I enjoy watching it. 5 parts watched, 11 more to go :) And I don't care about if you forgot to roll somewhere and so on. You acted extremely confidently, which makes it interesting to watch. Everything (at a very small error marginal) in the movie serves purpose.

Remember to do the rotatejump trick (as shown by zer0) a couple of times somewhere. It looks cool :)

Would the movie authors wish to submit a hash along with the movies? What about those who don't know how to get one and input xxxx or "I don't know" instead? I'm not going to do that either, because in many cases I edit the ROM manually (to remove "DiskDude!" garbage etc), and that makes the hash not match anyone else's ROM. There currently is a game version tag - I want to believe that's enough. I don't really want to concentrate much effort on ROM-related things. Instead, I'll try to have the AVI files as good to watch as possible.
