You'll know when it's possible, because there will be a huge uproar about rerecording in the GBA emulator. But it seems like it may be pretty close, so maybe we should begin a discussion. First, the screenwarp glitch. Personally I think a version with and without it should be used, because they will be entirely different runs with entirely different sequences. Apparently 5:00 is possible on the system itself using the glitch, so let's completely dominate that. GameFAQs has an extensive list of FAQs, one entirely devoted to glitches. Should manual reset within the game be allowed? It is necessary for one trick, which involves buying an item, and while your rupees are counting down, save. But can it be used for easy mobility around the map? If I remember, it places you back at the last point you entered or exited.

Interesting stuff, thanks. I think this is the X run which needs the most improvement, and while I have no personal plans for it, I hope someone considers it soon.

ZSnes has the best multiplayer out there... any reason you don't choose to use it instead?

Just remember that the viewer shouldn't have to care about how hard the run was to make. If you think the alternate way of fighting earth may be faster, I'd suggest trying it before going much farther.

Looks great. Bosses handled much less clumsily(though a couple missed shots here and there... hardly noticeable). I wanted this to be improved for so long, and finally it has been.

I agree that English versions should be used, unless there is no official English version of the game(as is the case with FF5) or unless there is a feature which has been changed that would make the run more exciting(I don't think this has been the case yet). Even though I've played through Chrono Trigger time and time again, I'd still like to be able to follow along with the plot as I watch- yes, I remember what's going on, but you can't virtually have remembered every little thing that's been said. As for that Japanese text scrolls quicker, I too don't think this is a valid argument, for reasons stated above.

This discussoin was held in another thread, and it was concluded that it didn't matter. bobwhoops made the point which changed my mind, saying that all the other glitches we use to save time aren't in the manual either.

Huh, I always figured that there was a "Minimalist" category but you're right, there isn't. As an editor, I'm not sure how to add it. If someone knows how to do it, then add it and I or one of the other editors will update the movies that meet the requirement.

GET OFF OUR SITE & DON'T COM BACK U TROLL Just kidding. I think the difference is that the goal the 1-item run strived for is different from simply "as-fast-as-possible"- it can be safely assumed that if Arc had used Up+A in his video, it would be faster. If his movie was replaced with Zoizite's, an entirely different path would be lost, while the same cannot be said for the Zelda run since they both strive to be simply as fast as possible. Plus, I'm pretty sure the UP+A trick was used in the prior zelda run.

I would suggest beating the game as you would normally, just using save states to prevent death or something and not striving for perfection at all. This will help you to build familiarity, and may cause you to realize things such as alternate level progressions that others haven't thought of because of your ability to use emulator tools.

I think this is definitely the type of game which requires a good amount of planning, as well as glitch/bug testing, before beginning a run. Have you checked gamefaqs, david wonn's page, etc?

I think it's become that as long as it's posted in its appropriate console forum in an attitude which will eventually spark discussion about running the game, it's okay to post in that forum. That's how I've interpreted it anyway, since people have been requesting games in those forums lately.

Grandmother is protected. Or something. I'm not in the super secret organization myself, but my friend is. edit: In fact, I'm sure this thread started off of http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1586 I'm surprised I'm the only one that knew the response.

It also seems that when a movie is over, it automatically pauses it. This means that it will not go on to the credits by itself(at least, not without some help from the encoder).

Great planning jobs, and well done luck manipulation(assuming that's the extent to which it can be manipulated). Those scrolls really made a difference. It seemed like the mother's section could have been done more accurately, such as using wings more to avoid falls, or conserving items and health before visiting her last inn(I think you overused the wings and took needless damage right before visiting it). Nonetheless, this is a yes from me.

By using the - key I was able to bring the speed lower than 100%.

Heh I don't actually have a subscription there, but every so often when you can view the boards without subscribing I'll do that. The Zeromus one was the best.

Saw a lot of these made on the somethingawful boards and was really impressed. They look like a lot of fun, and I'd order them if I could go to the effort of planning out how many I'd need beforehand.

This is quite a surprise. In the IRC channel we can't tell if that means that VBA with rerecording and slow motion is almost out, since you said he's programming the "savestate thing". If it really will be released tonight, that's fantastic.

Agreed, not your fault but the movie's just not entertaining. You try by aiming at innocents but not shooting at them, but that can only last so long. Voting no.

Desynched in the area with the moving spiked walls. However from what I saw, this looks good. Seems like there are a bunch of frame-specific moves which are missed but it still looks good.

Haven't watched this movie so haven't voted. But I can't see it different enough from the existing movie to have a second run of it up.

DeHackEd has been working on a run, which can be found at http://dehacked.2y.net/mmx-to_Storm_Eagle.smv Very creative intro level, using a car to not only take damage, but speed his progress as well. This put him ahead of my run by a whopping 187 frames(though I avoided lag in some places he did not). What follows are approximate significant frame timings, in the format of Location: My Time/His Time +/- frame difference(positive if he is ahead, negative if I am) Password after intro: 9280/9093 +187 Chill Penguin's door screws: 15864/15688 +176 Password after Chill Penguin: 18765/18688 +77 Storm Eagle lands: 23243/23053 +190 Last shot on Storm Eagle: 24363/24375 -12 This is very surprising to me. I stated the reason why he starts out much faster than me. By the time the Chill Penguin boss is over, the difference in frames is greatly reduced, due to my use of charged shots. Then, in Storm Eagle's level he catches up again. However, he made it known in the IRC channel that he was having great difficulty manipulating the Storm Eagle fight, and in the end it causes me to come out on top. Thought I'd let you all know(he was unfamiliar with the thread). Wodball, I guess you now have some competition.
