New WIP. First world + 1 level of world 2. http://fast.filespace.org/blublu/blublu_warioland_wip2.vbm I'm not sure if I should continue - it looks like I'll just be flying right over most of the levels and it won't look very interesting. The only cool thing so far is skipping the thwomp (or whatever it's called) in the narrow tunnel level.

Woohoo! Now who here is brave/crazy enough to attempt the mandatory "Mega Man 1/2/3/4/5/6" movie?

Well, you don't have to play through the game for that. You can just look at the level maps and count the coins.

linky Please check those pages before asking your next question to see if it has been anwered already. Those pages are very helpful and informative. Actually, I would recommend reading all that stuff even if you don't have any questions.

I'll see if I can make a test run of a few levels. I played the game to death on the original "super crappy screen" Game Boy and it might be fun... Edit: According to my testing, jumping and dashing (with just the regular big Wario) seem to be almost exactly equally fast, though dashing seems to be a tiny bit faster (and by tiny, I mean tiny), but that might just be because of a lack of optimizations on my part. More testing will be needed. Edit: I tested it once and for all, and I found out that jumping is slightly FASTER than unupgraded dashing. At least it is if Wario bounces off some enemies. Now to find out which is faster: jet hat jumping, jet hat dashing or dashing with some other hat. Edit: Level 1 done quite fast: http://fast.filespace.org/blublu/blublu_warioland.vbm It seems like if you bounce on an enemy, it doesn't cause a delay. I also discovered a nice trick; you can pick up an enemy, jump, throw the enemy, and then bounce from it in the air. It looks pretty neat.

Sounds like vaporware to me. l I'll believe this when I see it. Although I see how this would be possible for 2D video games (but extremely hard to program), I can't imagine this technique being applied to anything else. But hey, I've been wrong before so I'll just wait and see. And even if it works as promised, the software will be highly proprietary and I doubt Bisqwit would use it.

If you removed all the treasures, how would you finish any level? I'm pretty sure your money goes up each time you collect one of those end-level items. That's why it's impossible to complete the game with no money. It's not just practically impossible, it is literally impossible.

Only one way to find that out. Just manipulate the memory address that stores the amount of money and finish the game.

The rom I have is called Gryzor (J). I think we need a new 1p run, using this ROM. It's better in a lot of ways. It wouldn't be the first time either. I think the SMB3 run switched ROMs because one version had faster transition between levels or something like that. Besides, it would also obsolete a Famtasia movie. :) That said, I have no idea what to vote on with this movie. It looked pretty good, but I think it can still be even faster. I will refrain from voting for now while I think about it.

Don't most of those 2D games still use the analog stick anyway? I think so. Actually, off the top of my head I can only name one game that used the D-pad exclusively for control (Tetrisphere). Anyway, another reason might be the ROMs. They are not as widely available. And of course, the emulator is still young and it takes some time for people to get properly aquinted (sp?) to it.

Or you could just have two turbo buttons. One for even frames and one for odd frames. Then it would be trivial for a human to find which is faster.

There are countless reasons, but I suspect one of them is because of the "analog" stick. Not everyone has a suitable thing to use with the emulator, and it makes it that much more difficult to maneuver precisely. Most games on the N64 use the analog stick. I think Starfox 64 will be the next movie to be published because it's the only one there I have played besides Ocarina of Time. I suspect the Oot movie will take forever to be completed because that game is very large and complex. Actually, I have NO idea how to answer this question.

Very nice. Not only a good movie, it also obsoletes a Famtasia movie. Woohoo!

I don't understand. Do you plan on making one movie that plays the same game two different ways? That's impossible, you know. Edit: Oh wait, I get it now. There would be two different movies, then. Okay.

Of course if they are going that far they could just take the ROM, the fmv and encode it themselves...
Most of the idiots that do things like this would be too stupid to know how, or wouldn't want to put in that much effort. They're not only stupid, they're also lazy. Chances are they would look for something else that is easier to pass off as their own.

I have no idea how possible or impossible this would be, but I'm dreaming of something like this: http://bisqwit.iki.fi/kala/snap/megaman4-cossack3-alientech.gif ...but instead of two seperate pictures, having all the Mega mans (Mega men?) from each run in the same level. It would be like an actual race. You would see just one big level, and several guys running through it. Maybe make them all have a different color. Hey, I can dream, can't I? :D

So in a way, you're saying this thread is for losers, and that you wanted to post in it? HAH! *ahem* Back to the topic. I had a blast playing Super Mario Bros. 3 once, when I was moderately drunk. Then again, that game is always a blast no matter what. I also tried "We love Katamari" briefly, but didn't have as much fun, strangely enough. I don't drink that often because alcohol is mega expensive where I live, so I can't really experiment on more games. Besides, playing games is about the last think that comes to mind when you're drunk, so that doesn't help either.

I didn't even notice those ads until now. Google ads are really nice, actually. Of course keep them if they help. It's your site anyway, you could put giant flashing popups with sound if you wanted to. :D

I tried to make it loop at 1-2 a little. It worked suprisingly well, the first repeat went without incident, but on the second one, it desynced. I don't really think this is possible, although you could probably make it repeat 5-6 times if you play really carefully (no frame-perfect jumps, do everything with huge margins of error, etc).

Yeah, the one in 1-2 does reappear. By the way, I tried that -1 world thing, but it desyncs very quickly becayse of the randomness in the fishes. I thought it MIGHT be possible to manipulate the random factors into the same state as before by using some rather sophisticated tools (Bisqbot?), but then I remembered the score. Unless the score has NO effect on the randomness or the timings of anything, this cannot be done. Edit: if anyone is interested, here's the movie file I made (it will desync when trying to get 100 coins the second time). http://fast.filespace.org/blublu/strange-2.fcm

Couldn't you also do a loop like that for level 1? (or any level, for that matter) Collect the 1-up and die on the last goomba. Repeat. Maye collect all the coins (on the surface, don't go into the pipe) as well, but that would probably cause a desync. If it doesn't, that would be very nice, though. Edit: nevermind that, the 1-up mushroom doesn't appear more than once.
