Yes, it's Treasure Island Dizzy. Very short and easy compared with the other one on the NES. Actually, all the games on that cartridge could be TAS-ed. They are: Linus Spacehead - a platform game with controls from hell. Super Robin Hood - a very hard platform game with delightful controls and some nice level design. Boomerang Kid - an arcade-y game where you collect boomerangs with level design from hell Treasure Island Dizzy - a very unforgiving puzzle adventure thing....

Shouldn't a two-player run be faster than a one-player run? Or does the lag cancel out the additional firepower? The one-player pure speed movie is 09:34. Are you sure it's not faster to use the spread gun for both players instead of lasers? I'm thinking there might be something to double lasers, but I'm not convinced it's faster. Did you do some testing on this? I'm thinking it's an aesthetic choice, which is not a very good idea in my opinion. You should go with whatever is fastest. Anyway, I haven't watched yet so I'm not voting yet.

There's also the thing of making a subtitle file with the button presses. I'm not sure if there is a program that can do that yet, though.

How about Super Robin Hood? It's on an unlicenced cart called "Quattro adventure" or something like that. Super Robin Hood is one of the games on it.

No. Nobody has a clue about what you mean.
He meant don't make a movie file (avi, ogm, mkv) of the emulator automatically playing the game by using the button press file. But I'm sure you already knew that.

I disagree, the "side-stroller" movie does have a clear goal and could theoretically be beaten.

Famtasia hates me, so I'll just wait for the AVI. I don't see how this movie could possibly be rejected. My only concern is that if someone wanted to improve this, he would be pretty much forced to use Famtasia, right? :(

I agree with Baxter. Better yet, why not make two runs - one using as many cheesy instant-win glitches as possible, and another that doesn't use them.

That's actually a good idea, to re-make some famous painting. Maybe even add some NES elements into it, like making Mona Lisa be holding a NES pad or something... Of course this would hardly count as a speedrun, but it would be nice to see anyway. If someone wanted to "improve" it, he/she would need to make a better painting faster.

Thanks. :) Yeah, I noticed that getting the crystals doesn't actually affect time at all. It just kinda looks like it does. So I decided to get ALL the crystals in the first cyberzone and then try to do the others in interesting ways, even if it means I can't get all the crystals. I'm thinking I will do the next one same as #2, only diagonally...

Yes, the ONLY place where you need Shades is that big jump right after the ice cave. There is no other place where he is required. The really annoying part is that the gap is precisely one pixel too big. To gain that one pixel, you need a huge detour down into the mines to get that stupid character.

The possible paths are: 01 -> 02 -> 03 w> 07 -> 08 w> 13 -> 12 -> end 01 -> 02 -> 03 w> 06 w> 10 -> 11 -> 12 -> end The former one looks to be faster because level 11 has so many detours. The others (except 13) can be run almost straight through without deviating much. Of course, the only way to know for sure is to make two runs... That's exactly what I do, though I use OpenOffice and I don't bother with the hours-minutes-seconds thing, I deal in frames only. It's pretty simple to do this and it makes comparing movies so much easier and more fun.

Wow, I had totally forgotten this thread. No. I lost my motivation when I learned that it's actually not possible to skip Shades (the ghost) at all. The "trick" I discovered was simply a result of running the PAL cart at NTSC speeds, or something like that. I don't think this is a legit "trick". I think I tried the japanese version (called Hebereke) but it didn't work there either. (I don't think there is a US version). I tried for a while to get through the ice area without the lizard guy, but that didn't work out either. This game isn't really well suited for a good TAS unless someone finds a nice glitch that allows one to go through walls or something similar.
