Cool, thanks. We had the idea that the player might have to fetch keys to go through certain doors, but switches are good, too. Rotating rooms are interesting, hadn't thought of that, though with the current implementation it would be very difficult or meaningless to implement. One-way doors are interesting. Any ideas are welcome, no matter how obvious. It might seem obvious to you, but to us, we don't really have many ideas since our imagination sucks. Both because we have many other things to think about and also because our imagination genuinely sucks. Any outside source of thinking is welcome! We're actually having a bit of trouble with this.

It's all located in svn/branches as opposed to svn/trunk/ which is where I think you are looking. I wasn't sure where to up it at first, and I'm pretty bad at using subversion, so.. yeah. Just now, I copied the latest version to trunk, I think, so maybe the project officially "exists" now. Yes, I know about the Game of Life, but never thought to use it in a project like this. I don't think it'll work though.. it would just corrupt the whole maze instantly, but I appreciate the input! It is an interesting idea too keep in one's head, for sure.

Hello. I'm in some kind of extra summer credit learn C# course at my school, and I was wondering if any of you were bored enough to come up with suggestions. So we're working on this project. It's a Maze Game in which the player is supposed to navigate a maze. Yay, sounds extremely fun, but I was wondering if you had some awesome suggestions for features. Yes, I know it sucks at the moment but the point of the topic is to ask if there are any super-awesome fundamental ideas we're missing. We will hopefully add enemies and at least a randomized maze each level, but hey, I figured posting this on the best forum on the whole internet wouldn't hurt. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of work left to do such as wrapping what we've got into a wholesome game, and many other basic things. What I mean is what are some maze-related ideas we're not getting? Just say anything, no matter how outlandish it is. We want this to be the most awesomestest maze game ever. (yeah, right) If you're actually interested checking out what we've got, we have a subversion repository thing. I'm not sure exactly where we're supposed to place files in it though. None of us have any experience whatsoever in programming games (or programming anything, for that matter). Also, at the moment all the comments are all in Icelandic. I didn't think I would ever post this anywhere, sorry. http://code.google.com/p/mazemasterpwn/ Yes, sorry about using C# and Microsoft Visual Studio, but that's kinda the point of the course. To learn that stuff.

I thought I knew how, but then I was too lazy/stupid. So I just did this instead.

I like "guess the game" type quizzes, and those have shown up here from time to time. There was also the code golf and various other things. Basically, if you want to play some kind of forum game, it should probably be OK to put it in off topic, as long as the game is not blatant spam. Don't overdo it, though. I don't think a whole forum is needed.

Level 3: Holy crap. That looked ridiculously efficient. Awesome! Level 4: Again, I can't see a single thing that I could add. Super-good job.

No, I want to hear the game audio *and* the commentary. The commentary track doesn't contain any sounds from the game. I'm currently playing the movie in media player classic while playing the commentary in winamp. It works quite well since comicalflop tells you exactly when he starts the movie (you need to adjust a little unless you use the same encoding). I'd say it's well worth it. Comicalflop is funny.

Obviously you couldn't, since VLC doesn't support that. Either that, or the feature is hidden and you need to know some kind of secret to unlock it. Edit: Ah, I finally found it. In the "advanced open file" dialog, there's the "show more options" checkbox. If you check that, then it is shown. Edit2: Well it appears that this feature is completely broken.

Cool video and a good start, I think. It's too bad that, if I remember the game right, a large portion of the final video will be unskippable cutscenes (doors opening, etc).

Were you trying to shoot in sync with the music? At 0:39 it was kinda neat for a split second. All I can say is fantastic job! I kinda wish you didn't miss any shots at all ever, but that's probably impossible without wasting some time, especially with the spread gun.

Couldn't you just manipulate the enemy not to appear in the first place?

Nice! This is a good game choice because it looks impressive and is also relatively straightforward to make a TAS for. By that, I mean there are no super complicated route choices or character selections, etc. I can't really add anything more than what Atma said except I agree about the dying part. Even if it saves time, it just looks sloppy. The run should be a no-deaths run for maximum awesomeness. I wonder if the challenges should be run as well? They are basically just levels from the game, but they have twists that make them interesting. But it requires unlocking, so it would have to either come after the main run or load a saved state. (SRAM? Do DS cartridges use SRAM, or something else like flash memory? Oh well, whatever.)

There is no real beginning or end of the game. The tutorial levels serve as the "intro", if you will, and there is a short thingy that plays once you finish the Treasure Stages, which is basically the game saying "well I guess players want some kind of ending, so here it is". The characters that appear in those have absolutely nothing to do with the game except to be in the tutorial and the "ending"! Oh, and yeah, this game will make a great TAS. It will, however, be very, very hard to make the movie. This test movie looks promising, though it is supposedly possible to achieve a better time. We chatted about it on IRC so i'll just leave it at that. :)

I prefer to call it the "Sci-fi rule of cheap budgets and limited imagination". Also, the stuff Kuwaga wrote above is complete and utter hogwash.

Damn it. I typed these in and then I accidentally closed the tab. Oh well, I'll try again. Solar Jetman Ultra Greedy: Complete the game by collecting ALL the treasure but without buying ANYTHING in the store. Donkey Kong Super Jumpman: Jump 3 barrels at once. Ultra Jumpman: Jump 4 barrels or more. Tetris Lucky: Get 2 tetrises in a row. Super Lucky!: Get 3 tetrises in a row. OMG! H4X: Get 4 tetrises or more in a row.

I can't blame you for not hearing the news. Let me correct that for you. Because, you see, after this Chuck Norris meme had taken hold, it was discovered that in real life, Chuck Norris is actually a stupid idiot douchebag, and he has officially been replaced by Jack Bauer, who has a much more badass name anyway. So the correction goes; Jack Bauer: Cleared a room of at least 6 blue Iron Knuckles in less than 60 seconds. (although personally, I would prefer "Terminator".)

That seems right to me too. The movies are all being kept as input files anyway, right? So if one really desperately needed some old obscure movie, he/she could always encode them again. No history is lost at all, though it's kept in an inconvenient format. Hmm. Is it possible to make the bittorrent tracker give some kind of "warning: this movie is obsolete, go get the new movie" without disallowing it completely? If so, I think that could be looked into.

If this game were to be TASed, I have a feeling it would have to complete every level with a perfect score, because otherwise it would look really sloppy because the game is so easy. Personally I only played the first 3 or so worlds, after that I got bored with how easy and dumbed down the game is. Pretty much the only way to lose is if you try to lose. But getting all the coins and cards in each level while still getting the fastest time could be interesting and non-trivial.

I have some mixed feelings about this movie. On one hand, we know it's flawed, but it's also the first NDS TAS. My opinion is that a new run should have been made before publishing. But I'm not a judge, so meh. On the other hand, I thought this was moderately entertaining, although honestly even though this is probably the most obvious game ever to TAS, it's not the best one ever. (here's hoping for a Bangai-O Spirits run)

I got 39 out of 80. :/ This is harder than you might think at first. The only game where I got all of them was Megaman 9, and even then I had to carefully work myself through their "order of weakness". I even missed one in Megaman 3, which I have played absolutely to death. (I couldn't use the same trick as with 9 because in that game I have completely forgotten their "order of weakness" since I was able to beat all the robot masters but one with just the mega buster...")

Just $50? You've got to be kidding me. It must be broken, or otherwise have some problems. Edit: Then again, those games are actually not that terribly exciting. Contra would be good for 2-player and Frogger could be fun to have at a workplace and have everyone compete/brag about high scores. But I would much rather have a MAME cabinet.

TASes: 8.74 GB My emulation directory is 8.75 GB. Plus a 300 GB hard drive filled with a bunch of stuff including movies and TV shows. I don't watch TV anymore (other than occasionally for news, but even that I can watch on the internet). Yeah, I seriously need to get more hard drive space. I think there are like 1.5 TB drives now. Edit: Oh whoa, I guess I already posted in this thread. It's older than I thought.

I am just about 100% positive the glitch *can* be done on the last boss, because I have personally done it. You just have to find the right spot. It might be in a slightly different place on the last boss, I can't really remember. All I know is that it *does* work. Are you sure you are selecting the keys? If you don't have the keys selected, it doesn't work. Normally, you select the keys by entering the maze buildings anyway so you don't have to do it specifically for the other bosses, but you don't need to unlock a door right before the last boss. Edit: Confirmed. It does work on the last boss. However, this makes the game crash. Proof: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1709762805/Fester%27s%20Quest%20(U).fcm (Not optimized at all - I literally blazed through the game at 150% speed, only using savestates if I died and for some minor manipulation in the last area, just to get it over with!

Great. Now I truly know youtube sucks. When I try to view that video, I get "This video is not available in your country. ". Yeah, cuz, like, the internetses are like, not connected togethers and stuffz. Edit: Are you kidding me? I bypassed the block for that?
