Okay, I finally completed... the next level! Now I have two levels done, four more to go. This is going to take a while! Here's what I have so far. If you want the movie to be finished quicker, please comment. If nobody says anything, I won't be as motivated... http://www.angelfire.com/cantina/hamstur/PugsleysScavengerHunt_U_.smv

Damn, you're right. Although it is possible to jump from the lone red block, throw item3, backtrack (hopefully less than the normal way) and land again on the red block, then jump forwards again and land on the item3 that is now stuck to the wall, I'm not sure if that would be any faster. I have a feeling this has been tested extensively. Edit: I did a small amount of testing, and my not-so-optimized result is that this could save approximately one second. I might just be dreaming... I sure am not going to test any more, because I need frame advance and Famtasia doesn't have it. Why, Famtasia, why must you suck so much? Aaaaarrgghhh...

I was just watching it again and I have one question. At 4:43, why doesn't he use the floating platform thing (item3, I think) to avoid having to backtrack for a bit? He switches to it about 2 seconds later anyway, and it's not about conserving the energy (there's plenty left at the end of the level). I'm sure there's a very good reason, I just want to know it. Is it simply slower? Still, this movie is simply amazing.

Awesome! But why Famtasia? I think I'm going to wait for the AVI or a FCM version, because Famtasia is such a pain in the ass to use. Anyway, great job, and all that!

how long have you been playing this game?
That was my fifth or so playthrough after a 7 year break. And I took the first try in each level. And I played on normal mode..

That looked pretty good, I think you're on the right track. By the way, you did use frame advance to optimize the menus as much as possible, right?

I only watched the first 30 or so levels. I'm sorry to say this (really!), but what I watched did not impress me much. The movie is full of small errors and long waits that all add up. You can do much better than this. Because of the extreme length of the game, I think you should use a password and skip the first three versions of those 24 levels. The movie is currently too long, in my opinion. If it skips straight to the good stuff (obscenely hard levels), it has a much better chance to be entertaining. Please don't be discouraged to try again. Now that you have gained experience from making this version, your next will be so much better. Optimize each level to the fullest, and take your time. Don't rush through it. It is very important to make the waits as short as possible. Etc, etc, etc... Good luck, and have fun! By the way, the ROM you used just happens to be a good one. My "Boulder Dash (U).nes" matches the one you used and it most likely would not have desynced anywhere. Don't worry about ROM diferences, just optimize movies for the exact ROM that you're using.

Doesn't everyone and their grandma have gmail + 50 invites by now? Edit: Umm... Now that I posted, I guess I better make it something useful. So if everyone else runs out of invites and someone still needs one, I have plenty (PM me).

I just dug up my N64 and played through this game again. It is still just as awesome as it ever was. Anyway here is my crappy best score (not sure if it was done in normal or expert mode):
(obsolete, see updated score below)
This score is REALLY crappy because when I played through just now (normal mode), I got 1303, just 181 lower than my best, and I haven't played the game in about 7 years or something. I'm going to play a few more times and get a better score. This game ROCKS! Yeah, and I would REALLY like to see a video of this game. It really sucks that the N64 controller is so bad. Edit: I just improved my top score, it is now 1612. Yeah, baby!

This movie was nicely played and well done. Good job, and all that. I saw a minor flaw in this movie, though. Did you know you can save time by LOSING the basketball game? You can get to the castle even if you lose, and then you don't have to delay the clock in the game for those 6 seconds or so. I should have told you earlier, and I'm sorry about that. :( But I really don't think it is worth it, since the game is not very exciting to watch anyway. The only level that I would consider "entertaining" was the last level, which was awesome. Since there's already a published movie of this game that is over 2 minutes slower, here's my "yes, duh" vote.

Wow, that's awesome. Can you remap the turbo button yet? I noticed in some previous version, the turbo button was still hardcoded to TAB. But that might have been fixed 100 versions ago...

If you want to remap keys like save, load, frame advance, etc, get the ZeldaFix version. It should be floating somewhere around this thread. It's much better than the "official" version. To be on the safe side, make sure the movie works in 1.43 (or whatever) as well, and you're good to go. So far, I haven't had any desyncs between this ZeldaFix version and 1.43 final. (edit: although now that I read some more, I guess it isn't supposed to be compatible with that particular version, so I've just been lucky... )

This is pretty cool, but people always destroy the stuff I build... :( Ok, hopefully this passworded server will be more fun... :)

I have started making a run of this game. It's a very hard platform game with some nice graphics and sound. It also features some EVIL disappearing/appearing platforms. I was going to make a topic later, when I had finished at least two levels, but since I'm going to make a thread anyway, I think might as well do it now. I already made a sloppy preliminary run, but that desynced about halfway in, and I'm not going to do it again. (stupid me didn't view the run as a whole regularly.) I'm just going to go for the real thing now. I have one level done so far (the crystal ball level). Here it is: http://fast.filespace.org/blublu/AddamsFamily-PugsleysScavengerHunt_US_.smv It's on the hardest difficulty, which means you get only one heart (one hit = instant death). If you complete the game with three hearts, you get the message "why not try a harder difficulty next?". Obviously, I want to get the best ending. I would appreciate comments, especially if you have some useful tips or maybe know of some nice glitches...

Sorry about my negativeness. I just couldn't see the use of that thing. Maybe I was a little quick to judge. It's great that people are finding it useful. Although it still doesn't work in my Firefox, I guess it must be a problem at my end.

It doesn't do anything at all in Firefox. I press the "Go" button after selecting a file, and ... nothing. It works in Internet Exploder, though. The interface in that program is clumsy at best, I think it's better to just convert to fmv and use a hex editor. You can't copy stuff between two movie files, for example. Unless I'm missing something. No, I think a full featured program is required for it to be better than a hex editor. No offense meant. I'm sure it's a nice php script that took lots work to get right. But it's just not very useful, at least not to me.

A specialised program to edit emulator movie files could be nice if it was done correctly. It would be like a hex editor, but you could see which buttons were being pressed on each frame instead of some tricky hex values. But I don't really think the demand is high enough. My guess is that there are about 4 people in this world who would use it. Besides, it wouldn't really help a lot since the movies would still desync a hell of a lot. You shouldn't really count on hex editing to make movies, it's best to just try to avoid it as much as possible.

Whew! I finally beat the game and got the best ending. That last level sure was a bitch!!! Fun, though. Umm... I don't have anything important to add. I just wanted to brag about my "uber 1337 skills". Nothing more. :)

Yeah, this game is the reason everyone should have gamepads. I've already completed it twice. I was going for the secret level the second time, but I messed up at one point. Oh well, it's not like I don't like playing through ... AGAIN. This is the first game in a VERY long time that I've actually felt like completing more than once.

Heheh. This game is so bad, it's funny. But this is a nice run, even though it isn't terribly entertaining, But that's just because of the game. Since there's already a published run that is significantly slower, this one gets a "yes, duh" vote from me

I LOVE THIS GAME! I have to say, this game is very good. It's the kind of game that looks unimpressive in screenshots, but is much better when you play it. The motion is very fluid and it the game plays like a dream. The music is excellent. The gameplay is excellent. The weapons are amazingly fun, original and extremely well balanced (so far, at least). If you have a gamepad (like me), it's even better. Although I couldn't configure it properly with the configuration program that comes with the game. I just use JoyToKey instead. Well, I guess I've said what I wanted to say. My new favorite game at the moment.

Why did they have to call it "orkut", which I at first misread as "orkout"? It sounds like workout for orcs to me, and that's not my idea of a nice community... :) (sorry, couldn't resist)
