Very nice. Too bad about the sound problem. An obvious yes vote from me.

How about this: 1. Do nothing cause I'm too lazy 2. Use the force, Luke! 3. Burninate the car! Fire kicks ass!

Nope, the cyberspace area was only slowed by 58 frames (1 second). I didn't have to go under the electricity, I just took damage on a badguy who conveniently followed me. 58 frames is not enough to offset the 700 or so frames saved by not getting the gun. Hmm, this is looking good. At the end of the cyberspace area I'm 742 frames ahead of the current submitted run (not just due to skipping the gun). Okay, I did Effluvia (level 2) as well. Yeah, I know I said I wasn't going to continue, but it's just much too fun, and I'm too bored. Bleh. At the end of the level, it is 765 frames faster. 67 frames were lost in the final area because I had to walk to the green engine thing to kill it with the sword. I'm now entering Turvia with a 772 frame (12.8 seconds) improvement overall. Not sure if I should continue...

You're right, it would slow it down more than 2 seconds. I forgot the electricity doesn't go away until the 3rd one. I'm going to try it out anyway.

Whoa, I just had a crazy thought. How about skipping the first (horizontal only) gun? You can destroy the security ball things in level 1 with just the sword, and the machines that need to be destroyed in level 2 can also be destroyed with it. According to my calculations, it takes about 9 seconds to get the gun, and the rest of the level would be slowed down maybe 1-2 seconds. Level 2 would then be slowed by maybe 3-4 seconds at most. I think it would save a few seconds overall. The Vertigun can then be collected in Turvia. If you don't want to make another run, I'll be glad to do it. In fact, I've just been doing a short test of the first level, and it's already 46 frames faster. So while this currently submitted run is very nice, it is definitely improvable. I'm not going to continue my run unless you're not doing it, so don't worry about that.

It's a good run, but I noticed quite a few slowdowns. Most of them I think were neccesary, but some looked like they could have been avoided or shortened. I don't know, maybe they were unavoidable. The final battle didn't look very hot, either. The planning was good and the route was good. Overall I thought the run was good enough, but I have a feeling this can (and will) be improved. I will vote yes on this but I also won't be very suprised if someone makes a version that's 10 seconds faster. Nice run.

Is the pink armor really neccesary? Does it do anything other than reduce damage? I mean, it seems to me like it could easily be skipped. Same with the white armor. Then again I suck at the game and haven't gotten very far. It would be neat to finish the game with a very small amount of energy and just the basic red suit. :) Anyway, good run. Now you just need to find the right route and play it perfectly while abusing the very nice glitch I'm about to explain. You can use the teleport thingy to go through walls. Just stand near the wall. In fact you can do it right up against it, but I don't reccommend that for a timeattack, because it's a waste of frames to walk closer to it than neccesary. Now DUCK, and shoot the teleport beacon. If you did it right, you'll throw it right into the wall. Press the button again to teleport into the wall. Now you can keep ducking and fire the beacon again, and the beacon will go even farther into the wall. Repeat often. It looks like you can't teleport off the left or right edge of the screen, but you can teleport up. If you want to go up, just stand (release down) and fire-teleport repeatedly. And maybe jump as well, I'm not sure. Sometimes it's better to hold left or right as well. Anyway, just experiment. The first time this becomes useful is right after getting it. Just teleport through the wall near the whatever it is you're getting in that level. You don't have to go around and through the 'door' or deal with the green monster at all. Utopia 1 When getting the teleport coordinates from the tiny little guy there. Just teleport through the floors where it rises instead of taking the long Z route through the room. Utopia 2 After getting into the enemy base, teleport into the right wall. Then go to the top of the screen. When you reach the top, walk right. You'll end up in the room just before the energy tank, saving a HUGE amount of time. There's a really obvious exploit in the energy tank room, I won't even bother explaining that. :) You don't have to kill the "boss". Just throw a beacon onto his ledge, then teleport and immediately jump. You can get past him very quickly and just enter the next room. Volcania Enter the first crater, then teleport out. Don't bother killing the boss. Just lure him far enough so you can jump over him, then teleport past the stream of lava. Can you do the asteroid field level sooner? Because the sooner you get the teleporter, the more shortcuts you can take in the other levels. I think it's worth it to investigate the levels further, that is, find out where you can save time by going up above the screen like in Utopia 2. This exploit will be VERY handy in the last level. (remember the huge ass door puzzle? Yeah...) Happy abusing! I think this run is going to be awesome.

Protected from what? Banana peels? Because they're not actually that slippery.

Game cartridge ROM images aren't illegal by definition. There are quite a few freeware NES games out there. Of course, most of them suck. :) (then again, that's also true about commercial games)

Yeah, I noticed lots of slowdowns too, but this first version shouldn't be perfect anyway. It's just a waste of time to optimize it too much.

Whoa, I had no idea there were so many energy tanks in the first two levels. Anyway you're doing good, keep it up.

No, please do it. I'm never going to finish it and it's best that someone who actually knows the game all the way through does the timeattack. Even if you only do the rough 100% first version, and then stop, someone else could take it from there. I think it's important to get a first version done. It gives lots of inspiration for further versions. I'm just fooling around, not really aiming to complete it (actually, I haven't moved an inch since last time).

I'm almost positive my ROM is good, so don't worry. At worst, you would have to find a different ROM. Well, actually, at worst, I'm using a horrible crappy ROM, but then again, it's very unlikely I'll finish anyway, and of I do I'll probably have to do it all over again (lack of planning, etc). In fact, I should probably finish the game myself before attempting a timeattack. The furthest I've gotten is getting to an upside-down level and collecting a gun that can shoot in all directions. If I came close to that point in the game in my timeattack, I would have to put it on hold until I actually manage to complete the game. (I never could on my NES, it was too hard.) So in other words, don't hold your breath.

Of course, it's full of flaws, but a good first version. Now optimize it, then preferably optimize it again and you'll have a good run. Anon: I used a rom called "Spider-Man and the X-Men (US)(50672).smc" and it worked fine all the way through.

I started one a few weeks ago. Got about halfway into level one, then got bored and stopped. The first level is just so boring, nothing but running back and forth all the time... I'm going to continue doing that run now, but no one should be discouraged to try, as well, since I'm unlikely to finish it. And even if I do, it will most likely suck.

Will there be a key remapping feature like the one we have now in FCEU? I can't really use the frame advance feature in the current version without changing the keyboard language, and even then the key is in a really bad place. No, I don't want to use a Joy2Key-like program because I want to use my keyboard. A Key2key program (that binds a keyboard key to another keyboard key) is also unacceptable to me. I guess many people are fine with snes9x the way it is. So I'm not counting on anything to happen. But I wanted to complain anyway. Bleh.

Just in case you didn't know, you can find a map of every level in the game on this site (scroll way, way down): http://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/ Here's Vanilla Secret 1, for example: http://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/SuperMarioWorld-VanillaDome-VanillaSecret1.png

I always like small glitches that can be abused in a big way rather than big glitches that can just be abused in a small way. So at least one of my favorites is the "glitch" that enables one to reach the final area in Metroid really early on. Although the only "glitch" part is getting the enemy into the room, the rest is just clever use (abuse?) of intended game code. I also like the "jump into solid wall and walk through it" trick in Super Mario 1/2j. I just find it to be funny in a ridiculus way.

This movie is so cool! So full of action, much more fun than the SMB1 movie. Yeah, I would say this movie deserves a star. Great job!

Wow, I never realized brute-forcing would be so ridiculusly impossible. It isn't even fesible to brute-force ONE SECOND. I guess we'll have to wait until we have infinite (litereally) processing power to do that, then.
