I had to try for a picture twice because on the first one, they did something so I only got a 1x1 pixel image by saving it normally. So I was like screw that, and tried again.[/img]

It's not free software if it's "free" for only a limited time.

I'm with Ferret Warlord on this one. This new glitch might not have as high a "ZOMGWTFBBQ" factor, but now you can actually tell what's happening. Which is nice. I only watched the moon level of this run, since I saw the rest in the previous run. Very nicely done! Voting 8/10 (only 8 on entertainment since Duck Tales is starting to get slightly old)

The <blink> tag was and is only ever used by idiots to annoy people anyways. And even then, very rarely. There is not a single legit use for the blink tag. So it's good if the browser just ignores it. It's a similar situation with the <marquee> tag. And if you ever combine the two, ..... I don't want to think about it, it's too horrible. (edit: Actually, it doesn't seem to work in Firefox!) Anyway, I like Chrome as far as it goes, but it doesn't have Adblock, so therefore I don't use it. Other than that, I could easily get used to it. I don't mind ads so much, except when they're flashing and/or with sound. So I block them. (also if an ad server is taking too long to respond, etc).

If you could apply "flags" to bricks, maybe a decent approach would be: Start with a known accessible brick. Flag it as accessible (duh). Find all bricks that are accessible from this brick (either by walking or jumping) and flag those as accessible too. Flag this brick as "calculated" so it won't be included in the next iteration. Repeat above for all bricks that are accessible but not yet calculated. Mind you, I have never programmed anything like this. But it seems to me like it would work. The hard part would be to make an algorithm that would calculate the accessibility. (you would have to take into account that the player can't pass through walls/ceilings, etc.)

I made a paddle game in Ruby not so long ago. It is obviously complete crap and I kinda don't have any time to try and improve it/learn more. It was fun to make, though. (not so much fun to play it..... ) http://www3.hi.is/~tog3/paddlegame0.2.rb My favorite part is how I handle the ball movement. Yes, I know it's nothing that hasn't been done before but it was fun be able to use trigonometry in a practical way ( I don't get to do that much). But overall this code is probably pretty terrible. Edit: I had a later version of the game but it's supremely bugged and not really any better anyway) Comment about "Karanoid 0.8": As a game, it's pretty lacking, but obviously this takes practice and experience. The collision detection is pretty horrible, in fact it might be slightly worse than in my Ruby game :) It's a little bit tricky to do.

Is #15 really scrambled at all? Anyway so far I got 13 right for sure, one other I'm pretty sure I know the game series. Some are easier than others but some like #8 don't sound like anything at all. Edit: #14 is awesome, at least if you know which game it is. SO far I know: #2 #4 #5 #6 #9 (only the game) #12 (Man, this one is *really* scrambled. Probably impossible to get without using headphones.) #14 (actually, you need headphones to get many of these, so you should use them if you have some) #17 (only the game) #19 #20 #21 I'm pretty sure I know the series, but not which particular game. Although since only NES games are possible, I can make an educated guess. #24 #27 (game only) #30

I use Windows XP on my main computer, but it's now more because of a habit than anything else. I have tried having a dual-boot system in the past, but I've given up on it because Windows hates it and always makes it fail. I wowed to use no Windows on my laptop, so I put Ubuntu on it and so far it has been pretty sweet. The package manager for example makes everything so incredibly easy and nice. I doubt I will ever install another Windows OS. When Windows XP becomes unusable I'll just switch to Linux on my main machine and then maybe use a virtual machine if I *really* need to run something Windowsy (if it doesn't work in Wine). The only problems I have with Ubuntu is that 1) the default GUI file explorer thingy is crap. I mean, I'm sure there are better options, but anyway I usually resort to just using a terminal, which is far more powerful anyway. And 2) if something doesn't work, you might be *royally* screwed unless you are ready to spend *hours* solving the problem.

Hey guys, stop hating on this quiz. I think it's pretty awesome. I have identified 6 of those for sure, and a lot of the other ones sound very familiar, especially #1 So far, I have identified: #3 ( I'll be surprised if almost everyone didn't get it in 2 seconds) #5 #7 #8 (actually, I just listened to it again and now it sounds less like what I thought it was... ) #11 I'm probably just crazy, but for some reason I like track #2 the way it is distorted. I have no idea from what game it is, but it sounds like a pleasant childhood memory. #9 would be similar if there weren't these KNIVES (sharp sounds that sound like someone is stabbing you in the ear) in it.

It surprises me a little that this game isn't glitchy enough to zip through the floor really fast, or something similarly retarded.

Why anyone would bother to TAS this thing is beyond me. (edit: not really since it must have taken like five minutes or less) It's so unfinished, it's could hardly even be called a game. It's more like a test hack side project by someone who forgot it after two hours. The main success of this thing is that it actually manages to draw some sprites on the screen. I don't know why the music is so catchy, though.

If no games can run in desmume, even if it has TAS features, what's the point? That's what I'm getting at. I think, from a developer standpoint, run all games comes before TAS tools.
Yes, you are of course right. I was talking only from a TASing standpoint. :)
Bangai-O Spirits seems to run fine, and even has a replay feature (which DOES enable you to TAS the stages, replay, and record an AVI) however, I think I spotted visual glitches with the ammunition. It may be me, but I don't think all the shots are supposed to be white/grey balls.
Hmm. Now that I actually check, there are significant graphical glitches concerning the backgrounds. For example the level minimaps look wrong. It's supposed to show the level background as a solid color instead of transparent. (the blue rolling graphic is supposed to signify stuff that is not part of the level at all). Sometimes, objects appear grey until they move. The "bounce" bullets really are grey balls, however, so that's not a glitch. Also, the backgrounds in the levels themselves are distorted and weird. (the level I initially tested had a black space background and looked okay to me). This can be somewhat alleviated by turning the backgrounds off in the options menu, but that's not really an acceptable fix. Oh well. Still, this is very promising!

I think even more important than adding the juicy TAS features is making sure all games work
What's the point of having a large compatibility list if there aren't any TAS-making tools? Also, you know what's awesome? Bangai-O Spirits seems to works really well in DeSmuME. That is to say, if one has a ninja supercomputer. YEAH BOY.

This movie reeks of ass. Supreme ass KICKING, that is!!! I had to be careful not to blink. It's like this game was made for TASing it. Good stuff, and good job!

We're encoding unedited emulator output, right?
Not necessarily. The Mega Man 1 movie was encoded with a script (or something) that made the Magnet Beam appear more solid. In other words, better. It's OK because the original input file is still available and can be verified by anyone.

Both screen would be better to not miss any information. In New Super Mario Bros, you would miss the item that you have in reserved.
You're right. NSMB should be recorded with both screens. Only if a game has *nothing* relevant on the other screen at *any* point should only one screen be encoded.

This is great stuff. So far I've watched them all except the last one (which was either not released at the time or I didn't find it).

Although it's not strictly necessary to encode both screens in certain games (New Super Mario Bros, etc), certain games will require it, such as Contra 4. Other games will be very confusing to watch without it (Zelda:Phantom Hourglass). So I think we better make it the norm to encode both screens, but certain games might be an exception. Obviously, if the other screen shows *any* info *possibly* relevant to the game, then both screens must be shown. Kirby Draw Ball Paths = both screens, because the top screen shows a map of the level. Actually, I'm not too sure if almost any game doesn't make at least *some* use of both screens. NSMB is the only one I can think of, and even that uses it for the game map while on the overworld, so maybe not encoding it is a bad idea.

Man, this thread is old. Anyway, I guess I can now say Portal. The entire game. Also Half-Life 2, the part between when you finally get your crowbar and when you have to use the boat (or whatever). Hmm. I'm trying to remember things others haven't mentioned. Act 2 from Diablo 2 (the best act). For some reason, I'm really fond of the early Terran levels from Starcraft (not Brood War). They're so... innocent, and remind me of an earlier time. Since someone mentioned Super Paper Mario, I have to nominate it as having the worst unexpected level design in an otherwise well-designed game. It's the world that's all clouds, clouds, clouds, clouds, clouds, CLOUDS AND CLOUDS. And NOTHING ELSE. I think it's world 7. Blech.

What kind of a genius business plan it is anyway to set up a shop with a very small selection of overpriced items inside a deep, deadly cave!?That shopkeeper must have to deal with hungry slimy monsters all the time. No wonder he flips out and kills people at the first sign of trouble.

Very well done and awesome movie. Definitely one of the best ever, both technically and entertainment wise. One can almost hear the game scream in agony because of the abuse it is subjected to. I want to thank you guys for being so determined, not to mention crazy! :)

Damn. This game is pretty well made and brutally hard. I love the fact that you can blow up almost any walls. I wanted to talk to the show owner, but I whipped him instead, then he flipped out and killed me. :( Edit: Ooh, you can actually steal items from the shop... if you're prepared to deal with one REALLY PISSED OFF shop owner.

Interesting idea. I don't think I've ever played a 2d platform game with randomly generated levels.

I thought Red Planet was kinda meh. I didn't regret seeing it, but it was totally forgettable popcorn entertainment. Sunshine was surprisingly good, until the ending, which sucked balls. I can't fathom how any human being on Earth could like the movie THX 1138. It was just unspeakably boring and mind-numbing. It also never ends. The movie will go on and on forever until you either turn it off or fall asleep watching it. Maybe I should give it another chance, because it did have some good moments. But mostly it was just .... stuff happening, stuff you had no inclination to care about nor any desire to see what would happen next. But really now. I can't stress how good this movie is: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088678/ Get it now. It will change your life and the way you look at movies. It is absolutely the most underrated movie on IMDB, ever. It should be in the top #5.
