One could also make their own programming language that has one special function - an empty file would do exactly what the solutions says. :) Get a score of 0 bytes. Mwahaha. Anyway, I want someone to code a solution in Befunge. That would be entertaining for sure. (edit: whoa, pauli just did at almost the exact same time I posted this)

This game is pretty twisted and evil.

All the movies Warp suggested are great (although I don't really know if they are unknown). Either way, I created a thread (movie top 10 thread) for the same purpose some time ago (finding a good movie I hadn't seen/missed). The movie that I 'discovered' there was Primer. Short movie with time traveling. Very complicated, but very great :).
Ah, yes. Primer. It is probably the most "plausible" time travel movie I have seen. What's awesome about it is that there is absolutely no dumbing down whatsoever. The movie just assumes you are a genius, smart enough to understand what's going on. Which is awesome and refreshing.

That movie is.... really old. Alright then. I'll put "The Adventures of Mark Twain" (1986) which is simply staggeringly amazing and one of my favorite movies ever. In fact, it's so good I have to be careful not to accidentally think about it, because if I do, I become obsessed and MUST watch it within a few weeks. Erck. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088678/ (Note: I'm talking about the 1986 movie. There's another movie from the year 1944 with exactly the same name.)

If you're too lazy to do that (or don't know how), you can also just pipe it directly into md5sum with the trailing space, and check whether it is: d781302d9d20f2a6a26166f5960694df which is what I got after I added the trailing space to my program.

If "1" can be skipped and trailing space is allowed, I can improve my solution to 147. (and everyone else could, too) I too feel that the rules were perfectly fine and no need to change them after people have headached over their code. (yes, I did use that word as a verb). I guess it doesn't matter what you do, you will always irritate someone.

Yes, I did not mean to imply that comments are whitespace. I have updated my post to reflect better what I was thinking at the time. Just condense your program into the smallest possible space before submitting. Problem solved. The end.

IMO if whitespaces are required by the programming language, they should be included in the count. IOW, if you had something like (imaginary example in an imaginary language) "let a=5" then that would be 7 characters, not 6. If whitespaces were not counted, it would be a bit controversial. For example, if you have a whitespace inside a string, should it be counted or not? Better count them all. More unambiguous.
By whitespace, I meant all "spaces, tabs, etc you use to make the code more readable, but not required for the program to work correctly". I thought that was the definition of whitespace. That's why probably all submitters should submit the smallest program possible.

I might try this some time next week. Doing the challenge isn't hard, it's coming up with the most efficient possible code. Would it be defined by the least lines or characters?
The least characters minus (unnecessary) whitespace, obviously. If it was the least number of lines, you would just make your solution normally, then put everything on one line. And to me, making the program at all was enough of a headache, let alone making it small, thank you very much. :)

This game is really weird. The main character is really stiff and moves like a badly programmed robot with hemmeroids. Anyway, nice job I suppose.

Sorry to hear about your dog. Was it called Nog? Don't get lost in the fog. And remember, everything you say ends up in a log. Now I'll save you the trouble and stab myself in the eye. o_O <=====():::o

Sadly, my computer can't run Bioshock. Quake 4, fine, but Bioshock, noooo.

angerfist doesn't even have any videos at all, and yet he's still on the list. So I guess the only requirement is that you are a member of this forum.

Since I just uploaded my first (two) video to Youtube, I guess I now qualify to post here. http://www.youtube.com/user/realblublu The only reason I bothered is because I made this super kickass-awesome Bangai-O Spirits level and wanted to share it with those who might be interested. You can find both the actual level (to load into your DS) and a "proof that it's possible even if you suck" video which I painstakingly made with my digital camera that wasn't intended to capture video with any quality.

Unfortunately, I have not made any real progress on this at all since the last WIP, because of lack of time/motivation. I also feel like the part with the spinning orange crystal is lacking in optimization. :( I have not abandoned this completely, but if someone else who is more productive wants to give it a try, please do so.

If cheats were allowed, we would take then to their logical conclusion and instantly win all games in zero frames.

When do the copyrights for the NES series games expire?
Wikipeda says it will expire when one of these conditions is true: * The work was created and first published before January 1, 1923, or at least 95 years before January 1 of the current year, whichever is later; or * The last surviving author died at least 70 years before January 1 of the current year And if I'm not mistaken, whenever the deadline is approaching, Disney will have it extended. Basically, under the current system, copyright will never expire.

To be honest, I'm not hearing any resemblance between the tracks on this CD and from famous NES or otherwise games. Yes, the CD sounds like NES, but anyone could do that nowdays. Bleh.+ Edit: I like track 2 though... Edit2 Track 4 is pretty cool too.. this is growing on me. Actually. let me get used to this album before I criticice (sp?) it further. ... Track 5 is filler between other tracks. (ie crap.. or is it?? ) Overall, it's a pretty cool idea and I like track 2 and 4 of the ones released... I will listen to the rest whan it's all ready and stuff. (Apparently this is an unfinished project nd only a pre-release)

Or I could ask in this thread about "Nintendo DS mod/hack options". Thanks for the input, though.

Can you play GBA games with CycloDS? Or is that why you'd consider getting the "EZV 3 in 1 Expansion Pack"? (if not, what is that?) I've been thinking about getting something like this, because I now have 12 DS games and like 5 GBA games, and it would be nice to have everything in there at once. Plus all the other benefits, wink wink nudge nudge say no more.

I once dreamt I was in a Diablo 2 / Quake III Arena hybrid game. I had to go into the "dungeon", frag some monsters, then use a town portal to go back to "town". And the dream wasn't me playing this game, this was me really there. Edit: granted, the Quake 3 town portal thing was actually just the last part before I woke up from an overall larger dream, but it's the only thing I remember from it.

To be honest, I've pretty much stopped being surprised by improvements. After all,we've thought SMB1 was perfected, only for someone to discover a new trick, several times now. The Solstice movie has gone through more improvements than the modern car, and every single time it looks like it can't possibly be even 1 frame faster. And so on. Anyway, here's a list of games I consider unlikely to be improved upon: SMB1 SMB2 SMB3 Solstice Contra The Goonies The Legend of Zelda As well as a bunch of games that could probably be improved a frame or two, but it's unlikely that anyone will bother, like Gremlins 2, etc. Yes, I know that many of these are games that get improved regularly! But each time, it seems like further improvement is now impossible.

I don't know what's wrong, but here are some things you *could* try. Run a memory test. There's a program called Memtest86 which you burn on a CD and boot from it. (you might even already have it on that Linux liveCD you got) Try fiddling with the Windows Paging File Size thingamajig. It's supposedly best to set it at 2 times the amount of RAM you have. So if you have 1 GB of RAM, set it to 2 GB (both minimum and maximum size so it doesn't keep changing its size). Okay, that's all I got. If this doesn't work, and you already ran all the standard adware, spyware and virus scans, then all I can say is nuke the hard drive and re-install the entire OS. If *that* doesn't work, well, see below.

On the other hand, it seems to me like you already found a solution. :)
