Some of those time attack times are just crazy. I was actually on the Concrete Man board for a little while before he times became completely nuts. I now wish there were ways for players to create "groups" so that they could have a score table just for their group, instead of the whole board being filled with absurdly fast times a few milliseconds apart.

The config page of my router has "THOMSON ST585" written in big letters, so I guess that's what it is. It hasn't crashed or done anything annoying for months now. It just sits there quietly doing its job. Also has wireless built in, though I don't use it very much (I find it to be less good than just plain old cables).

Oh yeah. This game is awesome! I've been playing it for hours now (on and off) and it's really hard, too. Well, hard for me at least, because I suck. It's not the bad kind of hard, it's the good kind of hard, like Cave Story, only it's Mega Man. I also tried the "time attack" mode, which is pretty cool. You get to play each stage individually, and you get all the special weapons, so you can use interesting strategies, and there's an in-game timer that stops running on the pause screen. There also an in-game online leaderboard, which makes it much more interesting. I played Concrete Man for two hours and shaved a little bit of time each round, eventually gaining fourth place! (at least on the in-game board Nintendo gave me, who knows if it has the actual all-time best times, or maybe it gets reset periodically) Though I suspect it's only because the game is so new. I suspect the leaderboards will soon be filled with ludicrously precise and fast times. 1:33:33! I could get a much better time if I didn't suck so much at the boss. I get to him at ~1:24:?? and it's possible to beat him in like 3 seconds if you're good at it. It's like my gaming desires for the past 10 years have come true all at once! Yeah, it sucks to not have imported a Wii now, doesn't it. PAL sucks.

There are all kinds of completely pointless Firefox addons. I think I saw one that was simply a Tetris clone game. (actually, now that I think about it, there are probably hundreds of those)

That's my opinion as well. Wouldn't it be uber cool if they released an actual real NES Megaman 9 game that runs on real NES hardware? Even if they made it a limited edition, only maybe 1000 copies ever made, and each costing 100 dollars, it would be enough and people would still buy them (and then sell them again for 1000 dollars a pop). It isn't going to happen (seriously!), but it would have been nice. (Not to even mention that it would also mean we could TAS it)

*Headbutt on the screen 100 times* Sweet that's a really good reason to start again because it's a major entertaining improvement. Well I might copy some of your strats like the last room in course 1. Are you saying that my strats in course 2,3 and 5 (not boss) is better than yours?
To be honest, I'm not sure which was faster. I think my run may have been faster at some parts, but when I compared the total time, your run was faster by 1 or equal each time (except level 4), measured in gameunits (because I couldn't be bothered to do a more accurate comparison). So some specific rooms might be faster, you'll just have to check to see which strategy is best. I do know I tried my best at that run and really tried to go as fast as possible. I only looked at levels 1-4 .

I'm sorry to have to tell you this now (wasn't really following the progress closely), but on level 4, you do not have to wait for the Big Thingy to come ferry you across the gap. You can use the jet helmet and jump on the bats. I did it in my otherwise rather crappy (compared to yours) WIP a while back, so I completed the level 38 gameunits faster. Since that WIP is no longer available where I originally posted it, I found it again on my compter, but it only syncs on some older versions of VBA. (it works on VBA-rerecording-17.1 ) Here is is again, if you want to see: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1190336749/blublu_warioland_wip2.vbm

It's one of those ideas that sound okay at first, but then when you think about how to go about implementing it, you realize it is much harder than you thought. For example, what would be the "intended route" of The Legend of Zelda? Is there even one? How about Super Mario Bros.? Do you use warps? Do you glitch through walls, since it doesn't technically alter the overall "route"? How about a game like Metroid Prime, which has an "intended route", but still has some time-saving trick/glitches for individual rooms? What is allowed and what isn't? Is ghetto-jumping a glitch? If not, why can't you use it to alter the route? Etc. I guess it would be decided on an individual game basis, and the goal would be to play the game as if it were being played by a real person who is extremely skilled but doesn't use any glitches to to their fullest potential.

It happens to people all the time. Just the other day, I discovered that the word "surprise" has the letter r between u and p. If you read a word wrong the first time, chances are you'll keep doing it because after gaining proficiency in reading, you no longer read each individual letter, instead you recognize the words as they appear as a whole. That's why new long words/names are hard to read the first time, but then they roll off the tongue. Like "Suldanesselar".

First of all, congratulations! If I were getting married, I would want to have rings like the One ring. (from the movie) They're just good looking, classic rings. Other than that, I can't really think of anything. Maybe a big pixelated Megaman cake (in addition to the level 60 wedding cake), but that might be considered too much. Just please, please do not have a Star Trek themed wedding. :P

First of all the two most important rules of all: * Do NOT use invisible platforms. Unless you know how to use them, you'll just screw it up and make the level crappy. * Do NOT use platforms as a background if it looks solid. If you make a tile that is normally used as a solid into a background, your level will suck. (the above rules can be broken for non-essential areas like secrets, etc, but you should still leave at least a hint so the player has a chance of finding them) Players should always know exactly what they can stand on and what will kill them. Do not "increase" the challenge by making invisible spikes or pits, or fall-through platforms. You won't increase the challenge, only frustration, and players will stop playing your level. Do make interesting things. Don't make just static level. Put some enemies in, moving platforms, etc. Don't overdo it though. Make each level have a theme. It could be anything. Moving platforms, sloped hills, trampolines, pipes, or a combination of those. As with anything, don't overdo them though. Just look at Yoshi's Island. Every single level in the entire game has some new enemy, element and/or theme. Do not put too many of the same things on one place. More than about 3 enemies in the same place should really be avoided except for special occasions. Same things with powerups. Make each level interesting and a work of art. Make each level beautiful, so that when you look at it, you wish you could get in there and jump around. It should be like a window to another world. I guess this is pretty vague. :) Obviously, don't make the level go for too long without a checkpoint. Especially if it's an autoscroller. Autoscroller level-layout should generally be easier than non-autoscrollers, because part of the challenge is keeping up with the screen. Don't make your levels extremely hard. You will only make an overly frustrating level that very few people will want to play. Remember that to you, your own levels will be easy, even if they are really hard for other people, because you'll be testing it/practicing all the way through, and you know the level better than anyone else. So it's a good idea to get others to play-test your level. If they keep dying in one spot, swallow your pride and make it a little easier, even if it means they won't have to do that ultra-cool move you discovered. You want your players to play your level, not throw away the controller in disgust. (of course, if you're trying to make ultra-hard levels, please go nuts, just don't be surprised if no one else ever beats it.) Edit: Also, avoid putting too many things in one level. By that, I mean do not put every kind of enemy into a single level. It breaks the immersion and makes the level feel like it's not a real place. Be creative, but consistent with your themes. Etc, etc.

Wait, a screenplay? It was written more like a paperback thriller in my opinion (not that it's bad or anything).
I don't actually read screenplays. But what I meant was that I felt like the book was a movie and not a book, because of the long vapid action sequences.

Please don't say that. I'm already mad enough I was forced to use Vista. It doesn't feel good when people constantly remind me that it sucks.
To be honest, I haven't tried Vista myself, so I guess I shouldn't say anything. though I wonder how one could be "forced" to use Vista, provided one owns the computer. I recently bought a laptop and had them install Ubuntu on it. If it continues to be as awesome as it has been so far, I'll have to replace Windows XP on my desktop with Ubuntu (or maybe some other distro) as well. Having a nice package manager is just sooooooooooo nice. And it's of course free, and all that jazz.

It makes more sense than 90% of everything else in the books. Why couldn't wizards (or witches) be gay, anyway? Are they not human? The thing that amuses me is that this would shock people.

Yeah, I read the books, they're pretty entertaining and well-written for the most part (except the last book, which feels more like a screenplay than a book). I was very amused by the whole Harry Potter Teaches Children Witchcraft hysteria, and was very amused that Dumbledore turned out to be gay, which made some.. uh, "special" people go nuts. The movies are so-so. The first movie was OK, the second movie was the best one, and it's been downhill from there. The last two movies have been just awful. Basically, I like the series, but it has gotten far too much attention. Seriously, there are other fantasy books. Stop treating this one like it's some special new kind of storytelling. Sheeish.

If a Diablo 2 TAS were possible, it would be one of those things where a run for each character would be completely valid, as long as it was "as fast as possible" for the chosen character. I also think a Sorceress run would be the fastest one, but that doesn't mean a non-sorc run would be invalid in any way. But really now, Diablo 2 is a Windows PC game, and there is no way to make a TAS for it, is there?

Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt - 271 kills in 13:58.63 (838.63 seconds) So ~0.323146083493316 4804502581591405 kills per second. So ~19.389 kills per minute. I might be a little off because I only played the movie once while pressing a counter, and the washing machine fight has many projectiles and is a little confusing what is a kill and what isn't. Still, not very much killing compared with other movies.....

Is there actually anyone who believes this is real? Do people generally still take Bigfoot hoaxes seriously? (edit- judging by the replies this thread has received, I guess not)

I've been reading the book Influence; The psychology of persuasion, and it is simply astonishingly amazing. Every few pages, I go "a ha!" and understand more about how humans behave and why. It's an amazing book and I recommend it highly. It's full of knowledge that will change how you look at the community of humans. So. Awesome book. Read it. Now.

I was going to wait until I finished this planet, but since you ask so nicely :) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/536294037/SJ-improvement-WIP2.fcm It doesn't look as optimized as I wanted, but keep in mind that the default thrusters are basically useless. The crystal doesn't make things any easier, too.

Yes, I know about that cyberzone, and included it in my calculations. I think it wouldn't be worth the extra time, because double-strength thrusters don't increase your max speed (only acceleration) and anti-gravity is completely unnecessary in a TAS. Also, you can't buy anything before level 7 if you warp to it anyway. If I desperately needed the extra 1000 for better thrusters, I could collect one of the radioactives from level 7 for 750 and shoot more enemies for the rest. Edit: Cool. I got more money out of that crystal than I thought. So I can have double-strength thrusters as well as Nippon Sports Jet in the next level! Awesome!

Yes, the Nippon pod won't really speed things up as much as one might expect, the Italian pod would save an extreme amount of time. Unfortunately though, there's really not enough money available, even if I collect ALL available treasures in level 1 and 7, it only adds up to 17641 (and that includes some extremely out-of-the-way crystals in level 7). If I collect all the treasures in level 13 as well, it only adds up to 23943. It would be possible to shoot enough enemies to get the Italian pod for the final level, but it would probably be faster to just go for level 2 with its more easily accessible massive amount of treasures. (two orange crystals and a huge big treasure chest). Plus you'd get boosters.... I might be interested in making a warpless run after this one. Unless someone else calls dibs on it.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1847659554/SJ-improvement_WIP2.fcm New WIP, this one goes about a third through level 7. It was really hard to do with the incredibly lifeless default thrusters, but I think I did a pretty good job so far. I found the memory address "0x0458", which is used to track the hitpoints of those large ships (I call them bigguys), so I could begin blasting them as early as possible (while they're still off screen). I don't know exactly why, but at the first bigguy there's a place on each side you can ram into and bounce away unharmed. It looks like it's possible to squeeze past them, but it's not. There's some kind of force field. Oh well. I'm shooting as many enemies as I can not only because it looks good, but also because my plan is to buy a Nippon Sports Jetpod at the store, which costs 10 000 moneys. Where do I plan to get that much? Well, there's an orange crystal in this level which I will spin around to generate money, and there's the Cyberzone. Those two together will yield 8775, plus the 1000 you start with adding up to 9775. I gather the remaining 225 by shooting enemies, which is already done. I wonder, however, if there might be a way to make those powerup pods appear more often? The ones that give 28 moneys (3 for shooting them, 25 for the treasure inside). If so, it could theoretically be possible to raise 1000 more and buy double-strength thrusters as well for planet 13 (otherwise I would buy them only for the final planet). So if you have a magical way of making about 35 of these appear, please let me know. Maybe a memory address that can be easily manipulated or something. Also, any tips on how I could spin the crystal with default thrusters would be welcome. I might have to scrap that whole idea if it turns out to be impossible. But I think I'll be able to figure something out. Hopefully. It doesn't matter if I have to destroy the pod (again) along the way since there's a spare one just before the warp.
