NitroGenesis realized that 1 frame could be saved per level by pressing A instead of Start. He also showed that you can kill the Grey Sylvester in S2 of the Special Levels. I'd modify the existing the runs to include this fix if people thought it was worth it, but I see no reason to create a new submission just for this. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Big YES! I hope this makes it. I like the pic Brandon. May be a bit of a spoiler but still... Epic!
I always go with the author / audience before my own opinion, and I think cpadolf provided a good one. I'm glad you like it man. :) Also, what are your thoughts on the HD encode, anyway? MisterEpic still hasn't posted any progress, and if it's relatively acceptable, maybe we should just publish it with what we currently have.

All I can say is wow, it's about time. That said, I haven't watched it yet. Looking forward to NitroGenesis' encode (And if he doesn't provide it in 3 seconds, I will start encoding it myself. Mwahahaha).

What's the difference between this and "Minimum Holds"?
partyboy1a wrote:
The movie should be labeled "minimal (button) presses TAS" explicitly, and there must be a "total buttons pressed" counter in the encode. Otherwise it just looks like a bad speedrun. And maybe some additional counters for sections like bosses. Problem for the last idea would be that this will always be chosen somewhat arbitrary.
If these runs were to eventually be submitted, they would clearly be done so under a branch, so yes, they'd explicitly labeled as such. I already have created a Lua script to count both presses and holds while replaying a video (Though this doesn't seem to work in VBA for some reason), and with andymac's AVI-HeadsUp script, I should be able to work this into the encode. I will experiment this if / when I find a movie that is polished enough to warrant an encode.

If we say that "minimal presses" is a good goal, then it should be "minimal presses ingame" for this particular game, as I don't see any point in waiting for all those menus.
The problem with exceptions like this is consistency. When you start adding conditions onto what parts count as presses, you get problems, and it'd be impossible to create scripts that score these runs properly with them. However, I wouldn't mind a "Press/Entertainment tradeoff" category just like we have with our speed runs. The submission text could mention where extra presses were taken in order to prevent alienating the audience, and the judge could decide whether this was a good decision or not.

Waiting on MisterEpic to modify my script so that it uses TASBlend, which I hear would be the best solution to this problem.

I think that much of this feeling ("music in the 60's/70's was in average better than today") has a lot to do with nostalgia filtering.
If I lived through the 60's and 70's, perhaps you'd have a point.

I understand that you want this run published, Silent_Slayers, but you have to understand that we have a very high standard for runs, but more importantly, for hacks. A significant portion of this run is the Bowser fights, which are already found on this site. There's not enough differences to constitute its acceptance. Worse yet, if this isn't even polished, it's very difficult if not impossible for me to vote yes, meh, or even abstain. I have to vote no on this. It's clear that an 100% run will show off the major differences in this hack, and would more than likely be well received here if done well. After watching this run, I really have no desire to play the hack, which is a very bad sign. Please encourage the TASers to show off everything this hack has to offer by making a 100% run.

As enlightening as this is, I still think the garbage has gotten worse. At least the old garbage was real.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9nE2spOw_o&feature=related Number 1 song from 1969. it may be more "real" because it was not too heavily synthesized, but the band does seem to be extremely poorly drawn. Also, the lyrics are worse than cancer. This is easily as shitty as anything from today.
Maybe you can say that tastes were about the same then as they are now, but I don't think comparing this song to a pop song today is fair. This is from a fake band from a T.V. show that was inspired by a comic strip. There was no intention of creating art here, whereas pop "artists" supposedly try to. Remember, I'm not implying that good modern music isn't great, but the norm is bad, and seemingly worse than in any other time period. In the age of the internet, you can find a lot of seemingly unpopular groups from the 60s, and from my experience, they are still on average much better than the ones today that will hopefully fade away in time.

I prefer this one (Optimized): I'll deal with the YouTube encode soon enough, one way or another...

Is anyone encoding / publishing this yet? I'd do both if need be, but I'm going to ask again in advance: does this run have 30hz flicker effects like the originally supposedly does?

If there are any other encodes of mine that are improperly encoded in 30fps, please note that here. In time, I will replace them, but the priority for me right now is NoYoutube and non-HD YouTube streams.

I wish I could find the Cracked.com article where I learned this fact. (i.e. the music industry has always put out shit that hits #1, but #1 isn't what has longevity.) It was great, and put real perspective on the good music we cherish from previous generations.
Please keep looking.

That's so autotune-heavy that I'm starting to understand why people hate it (autotune-heavy music, that is). Ok, there's an extremely small chance that it's not (it's sometimes hard to say), but I wouldn't bet on that.
It doesn't sound heavily autotuned at all. Perhaps she is just a competent singer who trolled a bunch of people into giving her fame. I knew something was up when Friday didn't make me rage while everyone else was going "FFFUUUUUUU-". I mean, I'm prone to raging, but this just didn't bother me too much. I knew there had to be something going on in the background. Aren't instincts awesome?

Most of the instances on your link are fine. Banjo-Kazooie is the only one that I would argue with. Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Space Invaders, Mega Man? All fine. Those franchises have been around so long that 99.9% of gamers have probably heard of them.
Sure, I've heard of it, but I know next to nothing about the story line. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

It's kind of subjective. I've never played Banjo-Kazooie. I need a description. I guess I won't watch it.

Did you use Fractal's input for the rest of this? Edit: MUGG did use Fractal's input, so I listed both authors. Also, I made an MH TAS of Urban Champion in 40 presses. I shrunk the time to 00:49.98, but I can't upload until Microstorage is back up. I bet a bot would be very useful to shrink it further, and it's a pretty trivial process from what I can see, so I'll look into doing that. Edit 2: Improved Urban Champion by me, NES Donkey Kong in 35 presses by nitrogenesis.
