Ops? (After I talked to Amaraticando, we both agreed rejection makes more sense, before the verdict. So you can include us in Rejection.) There is no post link, so nevermind that.

No, it isn't. It is the parameter used to compare 2 different versions of a game, and it has always been that way afaik.

Rejecting this pleases the smallest amount of people. What do we have the Moons for at all?
Pleasing the smallest amount of people doesn't imply it's a wrong decision according to the rules and precedents. Otherwise we wouldn't need judges, just polls. And everyone's first instinct after watching this run is to want it published. It's SMB, after all. It doesn't mean it makes sense to obsolete the NTSC room, or that it is a good idea to create a new branch and open precedent for other PAL games submissions that aren't very different of their NTSC runs.

All I can say is congratulations for a very rational judgment, Nach. Even though I'm sure you liked this run as much as I did, you would never want to see HappyLee upset, and you read this ton of posts in favor of obsoletion or new branch (which are biased towards the game, in my honest opinion); you took the decision that is more coherent with the historical of this site. You can disagree with Nach's decision, but you can't say it's absurd. There are enough argument supporting it.

There are a few SMW based discord servers. There is one for hacking, one for speedrunning, one for glitching, and a few minor servers too. If you are interested in TASing, maybe you would like to join the SMW Science server too: https://discord.me/smwsci

It's easy to understand that I meant that the reason this might not be accepted is the fact it doesn't follow the site's rules. BTW, I'm not saying I agree with this rules, or that I don't want this movie to be published. I'm just saying I find it's unlikely this movie will be accepted as a new branch, and I would hate to see NTSC SMB obsoleted.

That's just true. Looking at the site's rules, this couldn't be accepted as a new branch.

Well, obsoleting a perfect TAS that nobody could improve for 8 years just because the game works faster and with one extra glitch on the Europe version is also unfair with the author, which happens to be the same person. And he said he doesn't want this to obsolete NTSC.
I never said that I wanted this to obsolete the NTSC TAS, I'm in favor of this being a separate publication.
I see, I'm sorry for assuming your position. Still, I think the chances this will be accepted as a new branch are slim, due to the reasons brought by Radiant. If it is between rejection and obsoletion, I oppose to obsoletion. But if this can be accepted as a new branch, I'm happy with it.

Usually yes, but in this game Mario's speed is adjusted to compensate that. And this change causes a new glitch, which allows the game to be completed faster.

Maybe it would actually be better to replace it with the PAL run if the competition for NTSC version is, well, dead.
So a run gets so optimized that nobody else can obsolete it, and that is a problem? That just shows how unfair it is to obsolete that run without any improvements being found on it. I agree with Radiant's post which says PAL SMB fails numbers 2, 3 and 4 in feos list. Unfortunately, that means the most logical thing is to reject this submission. Not to obsolete NTSC SMB.

Voting yes for entertainment. It is not fair to obsolete a movie that can't be improved because the game works in a different way in PAL version. Who knows how many TASes out there could be 'obsoleted' by a version in which the game works faster or has some extra bug. The site's rules explicitly says NTSC version is preferred. It would be nice to have this published as a separate branch, but if this is not possible for some reason, I honestly would prefer this rejected than obsoleting the NTSC run. It is a kinda of 'historical' run for this site, known as a perfect speedrun, so I don't like the idea of obsoleting it by PAL SMB just because it has an extra bug.

Just letting you know: SMWC is up, and now the link is working again. You were just unlucky to find this in the exact day the site was updating. http://goo.gl/CcJu0m

I believe the reason the link is not working is because the file is saved at SMWCentral, which is down today due to a update. If you try in 2 days maybe you can get the game. Or I can ask Kaizoboy when he enters on Discord tonight.

That's a very easy problem to fix. As suggested before, there could be the option of voting 0 stars. The interface I imagine is 6 clickable stars, with an 'X' in the leftmost denoting the 0 stars vote.

Honestly, the site would lose more from not having SM64 runs than from having a encode whose MKV files aren't 10-bit 4:4:4. That issue probably wouldn't even happen though. Somebody would surely be willing to correctly publish a SM64 TAS made in Mupen. Maybe it's not a bad idea to allow this emulator for the N64 games that work more accurately on it than on Bizhawk.

An exception has just been opened for a non-SM64 TAS which was made in Mupen and published here. So there is a pretty simple solution - while there is an actual reason to use Mupen instead of Bizhawk, just let them submit Mupen movies. SM64 TASes are always a 'big deal' in the site, pretty sure some publisher will be up for encoding it.

I've noticed people are barely rating movies anymore... This is a notable example of an entertaining movie that is there since February and got only 1 rating so far: http://tasvideos.org/3339M.html By the other hand, older movies (from 2006-2007) have a very big amount of ratings, and while they of course had more time for people seeing and rating them, the difference is obviously disproportional. Users are definitely less interested in rating nowadays. So maybe this is the time to renovate the rating system? There are various suggestions in this and other threads, such as implementing the 1-5 stars system and changing the design in a way it's more appealing to people to rate. There might be better ideas, and I just feel it's time to do something.

I think this route is slower, because it was slower in the atari port, and this version of the games doesn't change the distances between the stairs in a way to justify it being faster here.

I don't know how I feel about speed/entertainment trade-offs in general, specially when they are applied in a game which isn't very entertaining anyway. I personally would prefer this to be as fast as possible. As this game is kinda slow, voting meh.

If I'm not mistaken you need to find the BIOS somewhere. It goes against copyright laws to post BIOS files, so we can't help much.

Hacks such as TSRP and KMW3 are good for TASing and they won't change to fit accurate emulation. As it also doesn't make much sense to adapt Bizhawk to the hack's mistakes, the only thing to do is to TAS them on SNES9x, unfortunately.

It doesn't even mater if it's optimal, this game is too bad to deserve a publication here. It seems the author abused of some glitches and some interesting stuff were going on, but for unofficial games that's not enough.

I was very closely involved in the making of this run, and I surely invested many hours in it, suggesting ideas, strats and saving B presses, though I have no input in it. TimeStoppa was always interested in keeping the TAS going, he did a great job leading the project. However, I'm going to be 100% honest here. This run could have been significantly more interesting if it wasn't by some decisions that, in my opinion, were really poor. Some stages could be cleared without the usage of the orb, or of the infinite time glitch, but they were kinda tricky to perform, and the author decided to just go for the orb/time up, which are slow but easy. This reduces a lot the entertainment value of the run. A run like this that doesn't aim for speed must be REALLY entertaining, and thus a trade-of of entertainment for facility is a bad decision. The biggest example of that in my opinion is VofB1. He just orbed there, losing more and more minutes of overworld walk. But see what it could have been: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeEdU7H85Bg I would have voted yes if speed had been a secondary goal of this run, which would make from this TAS a very entertaining superplay. However, speed and entertainment were ignored too much. Please don't take this personally Timestoppa, you did a great job, but this TAS is not suitable for publication in this site. Voting no.

Lu9, I'll be honest - you picked a bad game to start with. SMW is a very hard game to optimize, you would certainly need to spend more than a year only learning about the game before starting your run. SMA2 is a bit easier because some complex glitches are fixed, but it is still not simple. If you do want to get into SMW, I suggest reading the SMW game resources page, the submission text of the published TASes, and watching on youtube the 40+ videos Let's Glitch Super Mario World series by nathanisbored. With all that information, you will be able to watch closely the lsmv of the published movies and understand what is going on. Some tricks aren't described anywhere, unfortunately, but they are in the movies and following these steps you will eventually learn them by yourself. You may also join the SMW Discord server, where you can always ask more experienced TASers when you have questions.
