I never got to play this game as a kid, I played Tomba! 2. Well I just started playing it because the second one was so much fun. I'm at lava caves right now. I decided to watch the any% run, despite having not beat the game yet. Unlucky for me, it desynched at the haunted mansion when he was opening a 1,000 year old chest (he didn't open it, which was why it desynched). Oh well, I will try again later and if it fails again I'll just download the encoded version. And actually I've been thinking about doing a TAS of Tomba! 2, but I've never done a TAS before... But I'm probably going to soon. And if it goes well, I will do a 100% TAS, because I know that game like the back of my hand ;)
That exact desync happened to me if I first played a movie in PCSX and then played the Tombi-TAS. Doing that caused a desync at that chest (The room where the grapple is being used, I presume).

Yeah I would really like to hear the reasons for the negative votes as it will affect my decision on making a 100% TAS or not.

Just out of curiosity, what did the nay-sayers don't like about this run? So I know for runs I'll make in the future. :)

To be fair, I don't understand half of the 100%-list. Like I said before, I never played the game apart from the demo. For instance, I have no idea what the Pump Rocks are. Did you say that you had a 100% run recorded, or just made one and not recorded it? That would help a whole lot. Also I will be occupied with school and work until early June, so I most likely won't be able to start this one until then. I would be grateful if you could be able to record a 100%-run, it doesn't have to be optimized or anything, just showing the route. Then again, there's no rush for that.

Yeah but picking up them forces a trigger on another quest (The Broken Fountain) and if I can, I'd rather avoid that. But there should be another set somewhere, there has to be. I think that this might be worthwhile...

Tomba! is a fast paced adventure game featuring a pink haired troll. With the any% in the workbench, a 100%-TAS might be considered as well. There was also talk about using the Red + Blue = ? to gain speed in the any% TAS but it would most probably not gain any time as it would be far off track I fear :/ The patterns for the moving speed with the Dashing Pants are as follows: While running with the Dashing pants, the pattern is: 3-4-3-4-4 While jumping and rising with Dashing Pants: 5-6-5-5-5-6 While jumping and falling with Dashing Pants: 4-5-5-5-6-5-5-5 While running as BlackWhite: 6-5 While jumping and rising as BlackWhite: 6-7-6-6-7-6-6-6-7 While jumping and falling as BlackWhite: 6 EDIT: (For the any%) <Cardboard> Go to mushroom forest, laugh quest, get sad mushroom, warp to Charity Square, run across it, do the Red + Blue, pick up happy mushroom and healing mushroom and continue with quest <Cardboard> It wouldn't demand the Jumping Pants or Dashing Pants at all, and still leave A LOT of time to run fast like a fucker. <Cardboard> The problem would be that you'd be one set of wings short.

About the speed: While running with the Dashing pants, the pattern is: 3-4-3-4-4 While jumping and rising with Dashing Pants: 5-6-5-5-5-6 While jumping and falling with Dashing Pants: 4-5-5-5-6-5-5-5 While running as BlackWhite: 6-5 While jumping and rising as BlackWhite: 6-7-6-6-7-6-6-6-7 While jumping and falling as BlackWhite: 6 That's what the speed addresses tell me. Anyway I think further discussion of this game and the eventual 100%-TAS should be taking place in it's own topic, so I'm gonna go ahead and create one in the Playstation-forums :)

EDIT: Actually, after reading an faq, I have a question.
Now, when both flowers are open, jump on the blue one and throw it in to the red one. If you've got it right, both mushrooms will fall off the screen and a starred mushroom will be left behind. Pick it up. *Event cleared: Red + Blue = ?* Tombi will have turned black and white. This lasts until you lose your next life, and makes him move a lot faster.
Would this save time, or does it not, say, boost animal dash?
Like you, I only played the demo. I have no idea what you are currently talking about :D But it should be investigated in, sure. Where and what is that? I have no immediate plans for a 100%-run. Like I said, I don't know jack about the game so I would need a ton of help with a route.

I do find it strange that I wasn't able to pull it off then :/ Maybe I tried the menu entering too early? Too bad that I can't hex, but I won't redo for a 5 second error :(

That was strange, I never got it to work :/ I had to trigger the "Hai, I am hungry because your hair is pink" before I could feed him :/ Also I find this unoptimized screenshot from frame 130100 hilarious:

Now that I can finally watch it, a couple of things: - For Charles at the start, do you actually need to talk to him before giving him bananas? I thought you didn't have to, but I might be wrong.
I have, unfortunately D:

- Was getting the healing mushroom actually necessary?
Yeah. Without it, I can't use the grappling hook(You can't use equipped items while laughing or crying), which makes the room with the Purple (I think) Pig Bag slower, since I have to do that room twice (Later on while getting the final friend).
MTGjumper wrote:
- I never knew you could jump back on a pig boss whilst it recovers after throwing it into the ground.
That window is like 4 or so frames wide :) Wide enough for anyone tool-assisted.
MTGjumper wrote:
- Could you not avoid collecting the raft? Does it not make subsequent menu navigation *slightly* slower?
It would have been slower not to pick it up :( Right now, it costs me 4 or so frames to pick up, and avoiding it before jumping would have been slower :(

Voting no because there's no way that a white man can dash that fast without being on steroids. To be fair, I'm voting no because the run was boring :(

Voted yes. There were some stylistic choices which left me confused, such as being hit by the shot on the "train" level but overall, this was good entertainment.

I don't see the issue. I must be fucking drunk. - We've been having a suboptimal run on the site for a long time. - There's apparently a new, optimal run coming this summer with 100% guarantee. - Summer is tops 4 months away. ------------------------------------- This leads us to, there shouldn't be any problem in HAVING THIS RUN PUBLISHED FOR THOSE 4 MONTHS! There won't be any fucking harm done. And there has been word going on about "how a new run of game X will appear with 109% certainty" and it has just not happened within the promised time frame. Unless, of course, there's an ego-part included. And if you're TASing for ego and trying to get a run of a game you are trying to TAS rejected just because you want to be the sole master of that game is just below pathetic. I hope that this is not a personal thing, that it isn't an ego thing. This reminds me of Saturn during his worst times of rage. "No, don't TAS this because you will fail and only mine will be good enough :-)". We didn't like it then. We don't like it now, when others are doing it either. Plus, it's more awesome to obsolete a somewhat optimal run then an super-suboptimal run. And what's best is that this game provides average TASes at best. I'm sorry. But that's how it is due to the game's limitations.

Voting yes so that Swordless won't be able to submit one of the largest improvements in the history of the site in the fall of 2014. Edit: In all seriousness, the old TAS must be removed. I watched about 10 minutes of this and it was on the low end of boring. It's far better than the old one, and saying that "a new run will come" has happened before, and in certain cases, the new run hasn't happened.

I'm voting yes just because the characters make the same sounds as Michael Jackson in the Moonwalker-TAS. Well, that and because the run is pretty awesome.
