I'm glad my girlfriend doesn't read these boards, because she might get mad when I say that I want this movie to have my children because it is just that good. I used to play this game constantly, and I've even watched the 16-star run from SDA, but this movie just kept making me go "omg". This was pure entertainment the whole time. Just beautiful.

I re-uploaded the WIP I made a looong time ago. This was done with famtasia, which tells you how old it really is. The collision detection in this game is weird as hell. There were a lot of spots I was able to improve, but I never did it in a movie, but this should give sort of an underlying framework for anyone else that wants to tackle this game. http://abharrie.misterdotnet.com/Strider.rar

Here's the babelfish translation: "Is in regard to rock man 2, but Bubble Man stage R <- 1292 -> M +1+2 ↑ With measurement of that time considerably there was a difference ↓ Heat Man stage B <- 1746 -> R With R the damage only 1 being not to hit in the heat man, it meaning that time is required rather, it does But, when the bubble man with "M + 1 + 2" is captured with current my technology, as for difference you think that it is very delicate, but perhaps the possibility of winning timewise certainly it is" I think he's basically saying, that you lose a lot of time on Heat Man's stage, but it might be possible that you can make that up in Bubble Man's stage...he's not really sure.

I'm not sure I can vote on this one, because Yes just doesn't cover how unbelievably awesome this movie is.

I had started a run of this a while ago but gave up due to desync issues, so I'll just note the couple things I noticed (I only made it as far as the end of heck) 1) At the very beginning, it's faster to take a hit on the spikes and bounce to the right than grab the chain and walk right 2) As nifboy said, the first boss can be done faster. If you position yourself just right, you can whip the boxes three times in a row without have to move forward, or at least shoot it for the third hit. 3) For Andy Asteroids, I say either grab *all* of the blue dots, or none. When you grab just a few, it looks really half-assed. 4) You miss some *huge* shortcuts in Heck. Here's a movie of up to the end of the gems in Heck, there's no "record from now" so everything up to Heck is still yours. http://abharrie.misterdotnet.com/EWJ.zip 5) When you have nothing to do, do nothing. At most, just get yourself into position so you're ready to do the next thing quickest. All of the jumping and whipping randomly makes it look like you're having a seizure. 6) I haven't watched anything past Heck, but since there's already those big of issues, I wouldn't suggest submitting it.

the 'best way' to get through the shooter stages is killing as much as possible, as otherwise you will get slowdown, which I unfortunately discovered after I finished doing Corridor 1 without firing until the boss. Here's what I had, which I pretty much have to completely redo, if I decide to actually run the game. Also need to test whether the saber laser really is faster than just uses rapid fire normal shots. http://abharrie.misterdotnet.com/guardleg.zip

I started it, but didn't go very far when I realized that there were 21 autoscrolling areas, which would make the movie very long, and I think not very exciting. Due to the keys, you can't really go to the areas out of order either.

Yeah, Gigafrost is less than 2 seconds slower from the start of Palace 2 to getting to the glove (I think it was 107 frames), and he stops to fight, I believe, 4 monsters and he levels up once. But in blitzag's defense, the only reason Gigafrost was able to zip by the slimes so fast, was because he already had the downward thrust, so he could just use that to bounce over it. While I'm sure blitzag could get by them quicker, he won't be able to do it as fast as Gigafrost.

I have to agree with Ferret Warlord, it's a lot better than the last one, but your moves are still not nearly as good as Gigafrost's. For example, he does the trophy cave 137 frames faster than you. That's an entire 2 seconds. You don't get off elevators as quickly as you could, etc... It's a step in the right direction, but I'm sure you could get under 7:30 easily.

It's because the second time around, he doesn't have the flip attack. You only get one powerup, and he chose the P-Gun over the Gravity Fireball for the last level, otherwise the 6th boss would take at least a minute longer, so the time saved by taking the P-Gun is greater than the time lost by not having the Gravity Fireball -Cheez

Okay, I redid the first level of Low G Man. I collect some powerups this time. I have max jump by the end of the first level, and I use it too for the boss. I actually run this time, which is much faster. I have a lot better handling of the bosses. Same link as first post. -Cheez

that's why I also mention you'd need a good key setup, and a good keyboard that lets you press that many buttons. example: Player 1: Up - R Down - F Left - D Right - G B - Z A - S with these keys, you can use your ring and pinky fingers for the A and B buttons, leaving your middle and pointer to hit directions, so you should easily be able to hit any two directions + A + B, and if Frame Advance is spacebar, your thumb can hit that. So as long as you had a similar setup for Player 2, it wouldn't be too difficult...at least as far as hitting keys is concerned...

hahahahahaha, I just discovered that I can double tap in a direction and run fast.....I wish I had an instruction manual before I started this.... I also discovered that powerups carry over from level to level, so I should get some early on

Powerup drops can be manipulated, I showed this in the first stage by getting two invincibility things. And they're not too hard to manipulate. Simply changing which frame you attack on changes the drops. Other things to note. Jumping is a lot faster than running, but if you don't hold jump for at least 2 frame, you tend to stutter when you hit the ground and can't immediately jump again. There's a warp on stage 1-2 that takes you to 2-1, but I think I won't use it. The hidden stage is really boring to watch. There are a second and third quest that are subsequently harder. On the third quest, the little robots at the beginning of 1-1 take 6 hits to kill with the spear. Also enemy bullets fly faster. If I do those ones, powerups will only be gotten as absolutely needed. The run I put of the first level is *hardly* optimal, just trying to get a feel for the game. -Cheez

I think the only way to really do two players by yourself, is with frame advance, and a good key setup so you can actually push everything at once. Just hold all the buttons you need for both players, and advance a frame, lather, rinse, repeat. I'm sure FODA will chime in since he's doing Battletoads. -Cheez

I'm trying to decide which of these to do a run of. I've done the first levels of each to give you an idea about them if you don't know anything about them: http://abharrie.misterdotnet.com/LowGMan.zip http://abharrie.misterdotnet.com/KidKool.zip Low G Man has really jerky animation, which makes even frame advancing a little tough, and Kid Kool seems like it might get really repetitive. I don't know a whole lot about each game, so any extra info about either would be nice.

if it was the other way it would be useful for boss fights, but running to the right and shooting left isn't useful really at all

hmm...you're right, I never realized I could go down and around, that means I can skip even buying the thing that makes me shrink, saving even more time. Also, there are $16 in the first room, which may be faster to collect than going into the bonus room since now I know that's all I need, I'll have to experiment EDIT------------ Okay, now I remember why I do it the way I do. The first boss won't appear unless you buy the shrink potion. The only ways to get the necessary funds are to either use the bonus round, or go through level 1-2 as well. The bonus round is faster.

I hate to tell you, but that isn't my run...I don't even have the Japanese version of the rom. My original run was done on the US version, and I put in a password for expert mode and started with the P-Gun.

I finished my run....136 frames slower...ugh...looks like you get to keep this one, because I'm so tired of the 6th boss, that I never want to run this again. The slowdown issues with the game make it less enjoyable to run for me as well.

I'm just sticking with the one you already used, I'm already at level 3, so I don't really want to restart yet again

Here's a game I'm sure you've never heard of: Kuru Kuru Kururin ... It's a quirky little game that begs for a time attack. You have to guide a spinning stick through levels, touch a wall and you die.

The reason I want the same password as Axeman, is so our runs are on equal footing. I don't want one of our runs to be faster than the other *only* because of a better password

Well, I've started my own run on Expert mode now with the password unclejed gave. I won't use the armor until the level 4 sub-boss, and I'll collect it before then, just so it wouldn't make a difference whether I started with it or not. There's no other spot you need the armor. The first run I did I never grabbed the armor at all and never got hit. So far I'm only through the first stage, but I think it's going really well so far. Though I'd still like the password to start on expert mode with just the fireball, to see if it's a faster password to input. It took me a while to realize the control was different here. I was used to pressing Up+Jump to gravity flip, now I suddenly have to press Down+Jump to do it, though it will be a lot more convenient for times when I need to jump and fire upwards (5th boss second time around)
