I was looking through the submissions and noticed that all 3 SSB submissions were cancelled/rejected (the Kirby high score one deservedly so)... if a high score Kirby pacifist run were done, would that be cancelled because I remember from that 10 minute vid that a lot of edge grabbing was done, or would a redo of the fastest time Fox run be accepted? I also found a website that lists every stage clear bonus and how many points it gives for receiving it: http://smashbros.planets.gamespy.com/game_ssb_bonus.php

yes, I meant quadruped actually, isn't ganondorf in one of the game shops? I remember someone mentioning that, I don't think it's going to be part of the speedrun but you go into some shop, and Link is suprised to see him.

it doesn't matter to the speedrun, we got completely distracted. For obvious reasons yes Epona will be skipped, it's skippable and saves a lot of time so it'd be only nostalgic to save the biped.

Using Dixie for first half of Kannon's Klaim is 28 frames faster than if Diddy was used the entire time from the end of Hothead Hop. But now, I have an excellent method for testing these sort of things. Yeah it takes longer than if I stayed by my old run the entire time, but then I'd never know if anything is faster or not. since I won't be posting WIPs until worlds are done, anyone can be free to PM me and I'll show whatever I have, so that peeps can review beforehand and to get a glimpse of some of the faster ways of playing I promised I'd look for (and found) when I first started V9. Edit: 38 frames saved in Kannon's Klaim, I was pretty sure that beforehand I couldn't save more frames but I guess I was wrong. Nothing strategically changed, but a lot of precision goes a long way i guess. If this trend continues, probably every level will be improved. I miss the frequent posters to this thread that all viewed my submitted run /WIPs :'( come back guys I miss you all

The short "Link to the Past." Come on. It's a long game beaten in five minutes. Five freakin' minutes.
I believe that if the LttP that's currently being worked on by Erokky and dezbeast, any% and 100% will easily be better than the 5 minute. I personally hate the 5 minute one, and I think the any% can still show a long game beaten very fast, especially since a lot of new techniques are discovered. Erokky and dezbeast's WIPs are very promising, but sadly we'll have to wait a while because they are meticlous workers. Also, because it is close to my heart.... at least one DKC get a nominee/be considered, Arne's DKC1 any% (has the highest rating) should at least be looked at, it's 25 minutes so no boringness and entertaining throughout with many great glitches, great precision and new viewers can through that movie gain interest in the 5 (soon to be 6) runs of the DKC series (any% and 100+% for each of the three games.) I don't have any other star nominations, sadly all the AVI's of the TASes I watch over and over again either are starred or will be considered for. I also think that any movie that is mentioned in the description of a starred movie should have the moon, as significance for being referrenced within a starred movie. Unless the moon does already have a predefined use which I'm unaware of.

Have you ever seen Epona smile? maybe she's glad to not have to deal with Link in both TASes... (can horses smile? Is Epona female?) I mean she's a tiny horse, I bet she hates having Link ride her...

right, but Epona wasn't exactly used in Oot either... since Epona slows the game down, and both games have faster travel than Epona running than yeah. Skipping semi-important goals became the name of the game when it was shown how much is skippable in OoT, this game is no different. I never liked that horse too much anyways... all those carrots that were downed, the Arrogant Worms would be furious after their song was such a hit.

a 70 star run would round of the Mario 64 runs we have. more planning will be needed, in choosing which stars are fastest but, thanks to FODA we now have all 120 stars run optimally so that shouldn't be too hard. One thing I will add, FODA mentioned he thinks the 120 is more entertaining than optimal (I of course disagree because it looks flawless to me, but as I'm not the author his opinion is probably more accurate) so, because the 70 star will be less time make sure that everything is optimal. But do be entertaining. I watched through the progress of the 120 and 16 star, and I'll gladly watch through your 70 as well.

Same. I think that it's a style to get used to- I TAS with many savestates between A and B testing all sorts of stuff, it'd take me a while to start playing like that but that does sound like a good temporary solution until the emulator can be upgraded. Most importantly, it's how you play and seems to work with MM, so this game can be worked on which is good because it is IMO as good of a TAS as OoT is.

I wonder if a specific setting can be made for, when using rerecording emulators, to have the exact position of the stick be kept when a rerecord/savestate is made, I remember when trying a few things out with Rayman 2 I would test one direction/tilt, and continue and it would turn out bad, then revert to a savestate and not know what that tilt/direction was.

I'm actually not sure. I think maybe more? I saved 6ish seconds in the first world, and I think that I'll be able to save more in future worlds... I really don't know, we'll find out later on as I test out faster/different strategies and get everything perfect. haha uh yeah 8 posts in a row... not a lot of people were posting and I kept sending WIPs of my work, so yeah... did the calculations (took me a while due to confusion about having visited Funky Kong) 493 frames ahead of the published 102% V8, or 8.216 seconds. 75 saved from redoing Krow and an additional 77 from Hothead Hop. Edit: Currently testing whether in Kannon's Klaim using Dixie for the first half like in V8 or using Diddy throughout is faster. So I'll be making two versions side by side to test this and other strategies as the run goes along. If anyone is curious, you can use the team throw double jumping to get to some weird places... and also in this short vid it shows that you when you throw a kong up, and you land on a target it activates it... I believe this was a debated improvement for the first level in Krem Quay and this shows that such a move is possible. (although I will probably be doing something faster anyways.) You can get on top of Lava Lagoon! plus team throw goal targeting

took the trouble of reworking on 102%... first I tried redoing Lockjaw's Locker with a strategy change, by getting the warp first like in the other levels and lost over 100 frames, so no good... but better is that I tried a different frame to enter Krow's Nest, and my Krow fight, subtracting the 65 frames it took to switch to Dixie, is 10 frames faster than Arne's. So now the boss fight is as fast as it can possible be, and it's due to A) hitting Krow closer to the nest and B) having a more perfect frame, with neither egg bouncing and the last egg dropping downwards right next to Krow. DKC2 102% V9 World 1 completely done

YES vote watched the WIPs from about 1/2 through the completion of this run, and now it's done yay!!!! a wonderful TAS, I agree an epic run, entertaining, daring, original, and a benchmark run for all to compare with movies of this length and calibre. Take a big, long break FODA, you earned it the full 120!

Air Transport Units do not stop to attack, they go straight to their destination without pausing, as do all other units that do not physically attack. I'm pretty sure that there is a vast majority of "destroy all enemy structures" missions where you build up forces at your base, occassionally an enemy will come that you have to destroy, but in the end you send massive waves of units and at that point you just let the units destroy everything they see, and occassionally tell them to target new structures/enemies. And the game is too good to let alone, so I'll try to work around this little problem.

I'm not sure what caused it, I was randomly playing through the game and didn't have any frame counters because I wasn't recording, and I definetly did not do any glitches beforehand as I'm not even sure if there are any for this game. Basically I was playing him until I died, and from that point on when refighting the boss from the respawn point of Rayman he would do the exact same thing and disappear.

Nono, Terran Brood War was what I was thinking... although maybe Terran vanilla would be a good start. Oh wait, the Terran vanilla has many starting missions with "fastest strategy is lead units past enemies" (if I recall correctly) so actually that's a no go. I think after reviewing the BW campaigns on SDA that Terran has the least missions with "bring _____ to location)" so that I can avoid those headaches. Protoss BW: 3 missions to bring 1 unit to location Terran BW: 2 missions, last one doesn't count because medics can be air lifted to their destination as in SDA run Zerg BW: 1 mission to bring 1 unit to 4 locations I'm assuming missions with "so-and-so must survive" don't count, those I'm not trying to run past enemies but to protect So overall, I'm guessing that Terran BW is first, Zerg BW 2nd, and Protoss BW last (or not at all.) plus Protoss are the slowest race and, despite being the first campaign in BW is the hardest to control on the N64. I have of course not yet looked at the vanilla 3 campaigns, but I should probably give those a looksie as well, and see if any there are easier/better to do, especially since it was the first/easier game and really only 6 units less of the 3 races. My final goal is to have all 6 campaigns complete as 6 seperate submissions, not nescissarily completed in order but in preference. But let's see if I can get one out before that happens.

Nope. 8001 not working, so I guess it's more than just port being blocked... probably going to try some proxy tunneling, I don't understand that stuff too much so I might get all confused in the process

Since I recognized that I can in fact connect at home, but not at campus, I'd like to take this link: http://wiki.freeculture.org/Ways_around_an_IRC_block and figure out which one can help me connect. first question: which ports besides 6667 does the #nesvideos IRC work with? more questions to come as I go through the methods until I successfully can log on.
