Heck props to both runs being great so far... both AVI's and .m64's available is best for everyone, as I remember before I didn't have Mupen/correct ROM so I had to rely on AVI... plus the AVI's were encoded beautifully.

And of course, the bomb hovering should be abused like no tomorrow, as well as the shield sliding (I forget the nickname of it) it is unfortunate that not as much can be skipped as OoT, but still a projected 3ish hours won't be too bad. and as long as tiny sections are TASed and reviewed at a time at a time then desynchs should be minimal. Either that or do everything on the second available frame, or wait to see if Mupen can be upgraded to handle it. And of course, practice to get good at the game, but that's a given lol And lastly, the knowledgable posters in this thread will have plenty of weight, I feel that outside input has made the improvement of OoT as good as it is right now, and this game should be no different.

Sami, when you finish Banjo Kazooie you think you try this one? mastery of the first game would surely lead to mastery of this one, your WIPs on Banjo Kazooie are awesome.

Spare time and Patience I have, but I sorta realized I have no idea how to TAS it. I realized that after 2 minutes of trying backwalking, I came to the conclusion I have no idea where shit is, and thus would be walking "blind" I'd love to help out if in fact you do try it. And I sort of got it to work- it had to run in full screen mode and had a few problems by the time Link fell into the room where he changes into a deu scrub but I think with some noodling around I could've fixed that. there's a route all planned out, a previous Zelda TAS to compare with, and very abusable glitches- I say it cannot go to waste.

Yeah I noticed it was really hard to find FODA's WIPs that aren't in AVI format.

Edit: Is anyone going to attempt this? It's too good of a game to go to waste

semi-important generally refers to goals in the game that are optional yet recommended, I'm pretty sure the seconds boss fights are not optional i.e. you have to fight them to procede.

good point, the bosses that were skipped are important, not semi... I actually think the subtitles that explain to old watchers to skip to 9:30 is not needed, new people are going to enjoy it without needing that information and old watchers are probably going to recognize the same movements anyways, since not all obsoleted movies have completely different movements, especially an already near optimal movie like this one. (near optimal of course being the first 9:30.)

What is rom CRC?
The ROM number ID I think? I wish Mupen had the same functions as Snes9x 1.43, it says if you have correct ROM or not, however I'm currently uploading the ROM for anyone that needs

yeah you probably have wrong ROM, I can send you mine Yes, the bridge is uncrossable, and you undoubtably need to save Ly anyways to get Purple Lums. Like I mentioned in the beginning, I do not think there is much skippable in this game, I just have to play as fast as possible with tight precision and gutsy play to do it fast. Later levels will get interesting, Fairy Glade and the Woods of Light are practice levels and are easy. Hopefully the run will get better, the next level is extreme water skiing so that should satisfy action needs. And if by the next few levels it doesn't, I'll just have to find a more intense N64 game. Open to suggestions if that's the case. At least it's not Front Line.

When is this? I'm pretty sure AKA has seen the entire previous WIP fully, are you SURE you have everything right? Rayman 2: The Great Escape (U) (M5) (!) I check constantly for desynchs, and before I'd even started Fairy Glade I made sure it didn't desynch before then, and I always replay the movie file before proceeding to the next section.

Fairy Glade next WIP Taking this a wee little bit at a time. I'm pretty sure all that's left in this level is freeing Ly by destroying the machine, then falling down the huge pit with the pipe and spewage, the air currents and then that's it. Future levels shouldn't take this long in game time wise I think

That's because of the 28 (correct?) or more desynchs suffered before even completing the first cycle, leading to a "play until it works" style instead of a TAS style. However, Rayman 2 is suffering from such desynchs (although not as many, but at this early point it's hard to tell) and my goal to finish it if it continues is to TAS each room/small section individually, and playback that section before moving on, leading to 1-2/3 minute sections to minimize desyncs. I lost a 5 minute section without checking before I started doing this. I suggest anyone who wants to do MM does the same, the end result will be the same calibre as the OoT run, if not better at some parts.

I think both apply to the instances that I noted. Good explanations.

Watched about a third of this, and sometimes you use ZA and jump from just a little too bit close to the wall, leading to a pause as you're hugged close against the wall before you jump over it. Besides that it looks really nice. Oh, and Geckos in Tuxedos = mega cute

I just calculated that 'skip' and 'skip?' Lums add up to 146 Lums, leaving me 44 more that I can skip. Will hopefully spend today finding those 44.

All excellent points, although I did not view any of the SDA runs, nor did I spend any more than 10 minutes per game, and overall they're my initial opinions with TAS in mind. So some of my opinions are wrong as you point out, and some aren't. Take it as you will, try the games and make judgements but those were all my initial reactions to the games.

I just downloaded like 20 of the games listed here, here are some of my thoughts: Castlevania/Castlevania Legacy of Darkness: Um, yeah essentially remake... there's more mobility, but besides that there's nothing new to offer. Castlevania fans would like it, I don't know about the rest. Carmageddon: I didn't realize this was a car racing game, but I don't think Tool Assistance can do much for this besides merely going through the levels without bumping into walls. Pilot Wings: WAY to slow, and again Tool Assistance doesn't bring much to it. Flying Dragon: I dislike fighter games of this type, so I personally say meh. I also couldn't get the controls to work at all besides jump. Turok: someone mentioned they did a test TAS of this, it requires the C buttons to move which I can;t do on my gamepad so couldn't test. I heard it got great results though. Shadowgate: big nono. Slow, you can't see the character as you move, a remake of the NES. Doom 64: I dunno, I didn't like it. A shooter that is well known, but doesn't look beautiful. Mystical Ninja Goemon: I couldn't take this game too seriously, it's too much like playing an Anime. There's some action, but not much that I could see to play with. Wetrix: If you liked Tetrisphere, this is doable. Similar tetris style, but you create landscapes using land pieces in tetris shapes. A little slower than Tetrisphere, but still fast paced and colorful. Glover: Fun, a glove moving a ball around looks cute, but I can only see this game being done well if TONs of showing off is done, with all the acrobatics you can do with the ball. Killer Instinct Gold: No, see Flying Dragon Chameleon Twist: slightly ok, actually a very short N64 game so that's better than some of the other 4+ hour games... you can probably do some nifty stuff with the tongue. My only complaint is that you view the chameleon from the top, very up close so you cannot see his surroundings at all. Hexen: No, graphics are beyond ugly and the game is quite slow/long. Body Harvest: No, the graphics are WAY too squarish, much more like watching an old PC game than a N64. Plus it's VERY slow Buck Bumble: This is fast and could work, but the controls of the character are SO HARD TO CONTROL, I could not make heads or tails of how to move the character, I bumped into walls or couldn't go in the direction I wanted at a consistent pace. If anyone can, you'll probably get a good run. Those are the ones I tested, I'll probably try to look at a few more mentioned here, and if I find a gem I'll look further into it. What is a little disappointing is that none of these are as TAS calibre as Mario or Zelda.
