I will undertake this, I believe 100% is the way to go and I'll look at 2-player, playing 2 player has always seemed daunting to me but if someone can give me a tutorial on making a TAS with 2-players that'd be great. This game is so similar to Kirby 64, so I'll TAS both games. At what parts is 2 players faster?

Now that DKC2 is done, I'll start a TAS of this. However, I noticed that Kirby Dreamland 3 is essentially the same game, but faster and less complex. However, since this'd be a great N64 addition, and easy to make, I'll still do it. I'll report back when I start a test run. One problem I have when I first tried a first test run of this is that, I don't know Mupen's functions perfectly, and even though I made 3 .m64 files, all starting from reset, the game file of when I played this is still there. How do I remove that? I think just delete the file in normal, and try another .m64 file from reset and see if that works... small familiarity with the game will need to be developed, since I played this game but need to learn how to TAS it, but moreso in learning to use Mupen 64. After looking at the SDA run I think Fire+Fire is best for most cases. Rock+Ice actually slows down after a while, which is bad...and perfectly timed Fire thrusts are what's going to make this run. Also finding other ways besides going to star world level one over and over again.

I'd prefer to work alone for some reasons: 1. Time-zone inconsistencies. 2. With ALttP, I probably won't be contributing as much as you would. I've only considered taking off from spezzafer's run because it would be such a waste to abandon, and I've always wanted to do a side-scroller. As for ALttP, I am still working on it. If I end up doing Yoshi's Island as well, then it'd only be when I get bored with a certain part of ALttP or something holding me back from continuing. ALttP will get top priority in any case. Anyway, you can talk to me through AIM or MSN if you want to talk more about it.
1. Time zone inconsistencies shouldn't be a problem, I can work my schedule around yours most likely, or work on sections of levels and send WIPs to each other 2. With a run this intensive, I'd probably take it very slowly as well, and I might be working on other runs as well, so no worries we'd be in the same boat, and if I worked too fast bad quality would result. I think Yoshi's Island must be somethiing of a top priority, with the projected length and intensity of the action I don't think working on it occassionally will fly. Also, as a low priority project it will take beyond forever to complete. (PM me your AIM, the AIM link in people's profiles does not work for me.)

Likewise, I preferred the other avatar as well, since it so well reflects computer problems and the following actions people do to their heads.

With the snes9x build in your sig, I can watch the run fine, but there are graphical anomalies. Like that barrel boss being wraped to the other side of the screen, and the bark openings in tree levels showing the far background instead of the inside of the tree. I've fiddled with layers and transparency but I can't seem to get it looking as nice as it does on znses. Any tips? (BTW nice progress so far)
One thing I noticed when I made my run is I sometimes got similar things in some levels, like marshes or the volcano levels in DKC2. I noticed that whenever I did, it's because I had Windows media player opened with the DKC2 102% SS run paused, either minimized or just behind the emulator. So close any similar programs, and it should be fine- it's not a problem with the game, just that it's transperancy sometimes displayed other CPU intensive pictures (it was really weird when I first noticed the windows media player paused through the transparancy of the background.)

Nice to see you're back and working on this. I'll take a look when I get the chance tomorrow. One thing I forgot to mention about posting per stage is that DKC2 was my first TAS, and I needed a lot of outside input since when starting I was not very good at self- evaluation and I could fix mistakes in one the most recent level if someone pointed something out. And I felt it'd keep the followers of the WIPs never waiting too long for new work to come out. As soon as you finish then all DKC games will have full representation, which will feel nice. You might also want to consider improving the any%; I can't improve the DKC2 any% because Arne is working on that, but if you find faster techniques I know no one is working on DKC3 any% so that'd be a good TAS as well. Except poor Sami will have been fully ousted from DKC if you did that.

If you get testruns better than mine by all means. Or we could work on it together for a 2 way completion (preferred, that'd be fun.) But aren't you working on Zelda ALttP? I noticed that's a very time intensive game with a large amount of rerecords, I just finished DKC2 with less intense TASes planned so I thought I'd try and tackle this since I have time on my hands. But up to you on whether you want to work on this together or for us to do testruns and see who's more suited.

I was kidding with the stasis thing and I think I have my next 4-5 TASes planned, as in my sig, but thanks for the suggestion. I actually don't like the bomberman games too much, mostly cuz I never played them and I hate trying TASes of games I don't have at least some familiarity of. I think trying to get back on track with schoolwork, as well as starting testruns of the new TASes will keep me occupied.

I just might do this... Yes I would obviously become very familiar with the game beforehand, since my MO is the more I redo the more I improve. I'm probably going to do many testruns of level 1 and such and most likely pick up where Spezzafer left off, if anyone has a problem with this let me know it's just that he got pretty far up to 4-3 and there is amazing stuff there OT, I just tested out all the other games in my sig, and got these results: Yoshi's Safari I have no idea why, but this game does not accept input in the emulator- I didn't know what the controls were, and therefore I could not do anything. So that game probably is a no go. Castlevania I tried out, seems fun, not as exciting/fast paced as I though, basically a SNES redo of the original NES Castlevania- maybe Morrison's movie can help, not sure if I want to do this one. Kirby 64 is a slightly slower version of Kirby Dreamland 3- I found very small differences, so playing both is probably what I'm going to do (since I'm themed and all.) Super R-Type initially seemed like just another gradius movie- I know it isn't, but the gameplay did not seem familiar to me so no. So unless I can find out how to work Yoshi's Safari, then that, Castlevania Dracula X and Super R-Type are off my list. I will attempt test runs of SMW2, and if I like the results I will bring it to completion.

I probably should go buy new software; I don't have the time to try to fix these solutions, and the last time I started scrwing with my computer I was outta my league. I'll be sure to ask you again if I find the time to try it; in the meantime I sadly don't think you'll be seieng me on the IRC, sorry (even though I badly want to get on it now, especially with my 7 next TAS projects plan.)

Yes, SDA is where I was able to do my DKC2 102%. But a TAS of this is daunting; I'll consider it among my current 7 next projects to decide from. If I do this I probably would pick up where you left off, to save a bunch of time (I would of course practise to be as good as Spezzafer) but then we'd have another Castlevania: Dracula X movie... Eh I might improve the Dracula one, and YI 100% is too good not to have a run (plus I love 100% runs)

I am so ambivalent after watching half of that WIP. I'd love to work on this, but I don't know if I can. Some of this looks similar to coin-planning routes, which I know I can't do. I can do 100% runs but I need a fully completed run to look at, for reference and to learn. And I'm doubtful if I can do this game justice. I would have to start from scratch, the SNES Dracula X had a similar situation of a different player completing the run, and it losing popularity because of it. And even though I exclusive use Frame Advance, there are some maneuvers and playing speeds that I know I won't be able to replicate without months of practice. And this game is the best for showing off, something I'm good at but I'm not sure for this calibre of action. So while I'd love to work on this, and would be an amazing run under my belt if successfully completed, I still have to do a little more consideration before I decide whether or not my determination can handle this incredibly daunting run. I know that if I can do it I will, I do have 3 1/2 years of free time ahead of me

I have 2 different IRC clients, but evern since my EZ-Armor expired I have been having problems up the wazoo in connecting to any IRC channel, because it either says that EZ armor has blocked the connection (even though I had set it toaccept it, I would shut down EZ armor in the past to fix that but now it doesn't work) And currently it says that my connections get disrupted automatically because of the computer's host software, I think I may have uninstalled EZ-Armor because of the major headaches it was causing but I'm still getting problems connecting, anyono know what's wrong and how to fix?

Excellent points, no offence taken. But, I bet even Robin Williams can sit around and watch this topic more patiently than me. What would probably be best is for someone to tranquilize me and keep me in stasis for the next 5-8 days, or for me to start working on a different TAS to keep my mind off it.

Assuming Spezzafer is not working on this I might want to take a shot at it... SMW2 was one of the games I first played on an emulator, and I have patience for 100% runs and such... although the any% was 1:38, so the 100% is going to be a very long movie. If so, I'm going to have to do a hell of a lot of test runs and research, I cannot start a TAS on my own, I'd need to watch the any%, read walkthroughs and study the SDA levels so I know how to get 100%. (My DKC2 I had to refer to the SDA 102% run because I only had 98% of everything memorized.) But does anyone know if Spezzafer hasn't given up?

And you can floor pound into the wall anyways, which looks extremely impressive on its own. Suprise factor hm? hopefully this won't take too long to make, what with improving runs not needing as much time to make and for an 10 and a half minute run.

I watched Sami's any% run in a second emulator as I played my run, in order to learn how to TAS DKC2. KNowing the fastest way to TAS is a game, I agree there is no way to do that. It's not too hard to use Frame Advance to do what I describe- it only took me anywhere from 3-15 rerecords to dodge around by one frame one sprite/monster/wall.

The Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is longer, and Super Metroid 100% item is only 10 minutes shorter. and both of those have worse waiting periods than my run in my opinion. It doesn't actually state what constitutes star worthy movies on that page, interesting... there is a thread that describes it but it's turned more humorous with players suggesting their satirical opinion of what stars are

Hm, but I remember taking my DKC2 run and trying to copy already optimal levels, and even though, at the mpa to enter levels I try to splice the two movies at the exact same frame (in both cases taking the exact frame # that is shown on the screen) and trying to hex it form there, but it desynchs. I suspect it might have to do with DKC's bad habit of being able to jump and barely land/roll on ledges, which can easily become off by one mere pixel and desynch. I'll download the v0-4 now.

There is a very easy way to get around this, with the tools we already have... Frame Advance. Just get close to a sprite, choose one frame that you want to go around it, and if you get hit, try one frame earlier. and again, keep going down/up one frame until you find the best possible frame to go around something without getting hit.

I have the SNES movie splicer, what is the best way to take a previous movie's full input of one level, and copy it onto a newly made movie? (barring aside luck manipulation instances.) Whenever I tried in the past it seemed to be off by one frame, even though for the start of splicing I made sure I had the exact frame where both movies had the character in the exact same position. Is v0-4 available for download?

or Mario or Metroid, so I'm told. Such is life. I'm hoping that one of the DKC games gets a star, DKC is very unrepresented in the recommended list yet happens to be one of the best series of games for the SNES.

I played all three Donkey Kong Country games on emulators, and didn't find everything despite having FAQ walktrhoughs. I got 99% with DKC1, I believe I did get 102% with DKC2 and I don't think I got past 50% with DKC3 cuz I didn't know about the banana birds nor most of the bonuses. And yes, this has become my favorite game of all time. What's I'd love to see is a Super Demo World version of the best elements of the 3 DKC games, with the best levels all combined, much larger levels that take at maximum speed no less than 4-5 minutes to complete each level, and exploring the beautiful backgrounds even more.
