Yeah it is a normal barrel... and yes I saved a second or three with that method Last night I got up to finishing the warp in Gangplank Galley, I'll post a WIP this morning and then this afternoon I'll try to log in some serious TASing, hopefully getting up to Kreepy Krow today.

Interesting... The DK barrel correct? On a side note, how do you view movies that are from a save state and not from reset? Ok, I will redo this bonus (not looking foward to redoing the third star bonus AGAIN because I had saved a lot of frames that time) but I'll work on it tonight and start gangplank galley.

I've seen your Any%, I downloaded the 1.0 to watch it, that plus viewing your DCK runs so I'm familiar with your work. So create a save state before Kreepy Krow, and enter stage at different frames? at what frame did you yourself find success? I can't see your bonus example, if you could explain it and any other bonuses which you think could be faster in the future run that'd be great I've restarted the run again, using the 1.0 ROM and Arne's settings so that everyone can see it better. I've also selected Stereo, using frame advance it's very nice how I barely lose any frames in the menu and the sound quality is greatly improved Here's the WIP, I haven't finished the first level yet but I'll work on it more tonight DCK2-102% V4 World 1 With improvements Also, at the end of the run: There are two seperate Boss fights, K. Rool at the top of the tower and K. Rool at the Lost World. Both are needed for the 102%. Which one should I do first? The tower boss fight requires a reset in order to play the game again to save time, otherwise the natural reset takes a very long while, but would the recording allow a reset like that? is the Lost World a better fight for first because the Lost world natural reset is so short?

DCK2-102% World 1 With LockJaw's Locker and Topsail Trouble Improvements I just got the modified Snes9x thing to work, so it's what I'll be using from now on to help with desynchs and stuff. I'm also downloading the 1.0 ROM so that I can view Arne's work and get tips there, because I'm assuming he uses that version instead of my 1.1 I really improved alot on Lockjaw's Locker, I experimented with doing a duck-boosted jump earlier and at all times and what I ended up with is the soonest time to reach the reach the bulkhead above, where I get to roll which gives me a wonderful horizontal boost in the water. That plus smoother enguard swimming, entering the bonus sooner, and getting the target sooner and I'd say it's a much improved level. Topsail trouble was very little improvements, I was playing on slower speed so the climbing in the bonus was better, plus I alter dismounting the snake in the bonus to get to the flies faster. And I saved frames on the rolling to the second bonus by not hitting the platform under the fly, and by going as right as possible, missing the bee, hitting the climb-kroc earlier and missing the second kroc on the far right, to save frames. Before I continue I really need to know when to luck manipulate the eggs, I always get first/third or third/third or third/first but how can I get first/first?

DCK2-102% World 1 With improvements This is all taking in the improvements people have suggested, as well as my own. I ran out of time tonight, so I don't fight Krow's nest yet because I cannot luck manipulate the eggs anyone know how to do that? easily seconds saved so I'm not continuing until someone can tell me if I have to save state at the beginning of the fight, or elsewhere. At Gangplank galley because dixie's jumping is so slow I think a double team-throw saves a few frames... can anyone verify? I still think I can get a higher boosted jump out of the water in lockjaw's saga... but enguarde swims faster by not pressing 'Y' the rambi dismount I got perfected, even got to use it twice elsewhere (or the method) to stop in mid-air mid-charge, very handy smoother rolling and stuff, tried to make it overall look smoother I'm also playing by turning mute on, will this solve desynch problems? comments?

I know I could of hit the goal earlier in mainbrace mayhem- I'm going to use a goal switch there now anyways- but where else?

But it seems I only desynch in the Lava lagoon level, and this is the second time I've done this... no other level has desynched for me due to savestates, and yet twice lava lagoon has desynched? (in the same spot more or less, of all things what are the odds?) Gangplank galley: yeah, that was a little mistake but I was reciting from memory the major spots that I could improve on. And dixie is not faster in any way, her hovering is mostly the same speed as her running which is slower than diddy's. PLus, in the first world (and the second too) I'm finiding spots where dixie's spinhover would be great to get to certain places, but diddy gets to them just as good, yet faster because his roll is great (mostly in topsail trouble and hothead hop). However... after getting the DK coin I could use dixie to hover over to the warp faster but the time needed to perform a switch is a little too much and I'd lose frames that way. I could possibly do a goal switch before to start the level with dixie.... "fake mute", is that available on the improved SNES9X that I use? unless someone can tell me how to use Nitsuja's modified SNES9X, I'll stick to what works for me I'll keep doing Lava lagoon, but it'll be hard because I don't know any savestate saving tricks because if I see where there's a desynch, I'll have to replay the movie up to before the part where it desynchs and start from scratch, and that takes time...any good way of playing a level that desynchs a lot?

That's correct, you lose seconds by hitting the goal from a certain height so it's always faster to make an extra jump to just go to next level. There is one or two levels where the DK coin is in the target, so usually those will be the two exceptions, unless I try to do a goal switch. I still keep getting desynchs at Lava Lagoon, I will keep going a little iddy bitty step at a time thru the level to keep desynching minimal. Does going turbo mode to undo mistakes affect desynching if I want to fast foward to lava lagoon? will submit a WIP as soon as lava lagoon is complete sans desynchs

Glad the desynching stuff is out of the way. Yeah I can't tell what version I was using, hopefully if people watch with 1.1 the desynchs will stop Now on to some justifications and the spots where I notice needs improvement: Why don't I use the goal switch? In world 1 I found 2 spots in SDA's speedrun where dixie is used to gain speed, because her spin gains more distance. However, watching Sami's any% run showed me to avoid dixie as much as possible except for rare cases where she's a big time saver. I basically nailed the same tricks faster with diddy, so there's no need to use the goal switch. Further in the run I may use it, but for world one so far there's no need. I think the future of the run will be very diddy oriented, simply because I used him more and found out that I can mostly do th same tricks as dixie. Areas that I noticed I can improve on: Pirate Panic: 1: there's a part where I roll up stairs and for some reason I go slower, I could jump here to gain a few frames 2: Rambi dismount could be smoother Mainbrace Mayhem: Second bonus: I could not wobble, cuz I mess up horribly trying to idle the time and even though the 6 kill is awesome the waiting looks sloppy. DK coin: I could make the roll jump go farther, and not have to jump again to get the coin. Gangplank Galley: None Lockjaw's saga: 1: Improve the duck swimming, I might be able to jump out of water onto the bulkhead above and do another duck fall into the water, that would be fastest but hard to do 2: test whether holding Y makes enguarde go faster or not, I noticed when I didn't hold it he was going faster, is this true? 3: slightly more smoother bonus Topsail trouble: None (goal switch not needed since Diddy fulfills dixie's purpose faster) Boss: Need to luck manipulate the final egg, anyone know at what point to make a savastate to manipulate the eggs? I've gotten up to jungle hijinxes, I made hothead hop much better than the first time I tried it, I'll keep working until someone can help tutor me on how to hex edit. I'm making backups of my movie just like it's recommended, so if someone can help me get familiar with it then I'll go back to fix mistakes DCK2-102%World1 + World2 Stage 1-2

DCK2-102%World1 whew, got in 3 levels and the boss in one night. Hopefully, since I redid before the star bonus that the desynchs will stop. However, with the significant improvements I still calculated only a 1 second improvement of my first version of up to krocodile kualdron. Maybe because they don't end on the same frame, that might make up the difference. I really think the extra work to gain frames and smooth things out was worth it, what do you guys think?

I tried downloading nitsuja's thingy, but it made my SNES emulator run at 40/60 frames, and everything was crappy and slow. So I deleted it. I don't know how it's supposed to work, but so far all it did for me was make my emulator slow down, so unless someone can help me on whether or not it's its own program or an extension of SNES, I will leave it alone. I am starting from scratch, and won't start each next level until I have perfected the previous level. yesterday I tried to do all climbing in the bonus and I always miss a star. I will attempt tonight to slow down the speed even further, but I doubt it will yield better results becuase quite frankly I think the game physics of rope jumping won't permit me to hit all the stars, even though I come close to getting all sometimes. We'll see where tonight brings me. Edit: I think I got it. at relle slow speeds, when rope jumping on one single rope (as is the case to get the stars in the bonus) you can jump on the first fram possible to get maximum speed. But I'm slowly waiting for diddy to swing around the rope just a little to jump up the direct middle of the rope each time. I get a little more success with that, I'll see if it works Edit: DCK2-102% Stage 1-2 Star Bonus nailed YESS!!!! After three days I have finally got the bonus done. Yes indeed by jumping a frame or two after diddy grabs the rope and swings around it, and ends up halfway between the rope, if you jump then you practically climb the rope right up the middle. This way I can in fact grab all the stars. Then I jump up in between the ropes to get the middle column very fast by falling, and precede to get the right column the same way as the far left column. Loads of seconds saved. The rest of the movie is much smoother than the previous movie up to stage 3, with the rambi dismount (not as smooth as I wanted it, but saved a second) smoother climbing in stage 2, saved frames on the "kill the monsters" level (but look sloppy when I "wiggle"), more smoooth climbing, of course the star bonus much seconds saved and getting the final DK coin and target much smoother. Does this look more TAS calibre and worthy of publication, as compared to my previous movie? Slowing down more does seem to improve quality, so I will accept the more time it will take for now since I see results.

How does the rest look so far up to the desynching point? Hot head hop sucked like I suspected, lots of room for improvement there, kannon's klaim was almost perfect except for one part where I fall, and land to do a roll where falling would be faster. Jungle jjinxes had some good stuff but wasn't 100% smooth. I backed up the movie file so that I can start from scratch in the beginning seperately while working on my current version any thoughts? is it still desynching at other places for other ppl?

I'm going to start Krocodile Kauldron today, previous mistakes like the missing star and a few others will be left alone until I find out how to hex edit that stuff, can anyone help me on how that's done? I had previously gotten up to squawk's shaft, this world is good for me except hothead hop because I suck at using the spider, I need a huge amount of practice to get as good as sami with the spider otherwise rest of the world is good so I'll start that today and I'll post as a WIP as soon as I'm done with that world.

Hmm I miss a star? interesting... I just replayed my .smv movie and didn't see it at all is there any way to hex edit sections and keep the rest of the movie intact? for future reference I would greatly enjoy that instead of redoing the run a million times I tried doing all jumping instead of climbing, and I always miss stars when I do that. from the picture, if I do all jumps I get six, 3 in 2 columns, and always miss one star. *|* | *|* | *|* |* and also, with further slowdown jumps: *|* *| *|* | *|* | *|* |* If I tried to slow it down even further I might be able to but so far I jump a bit in the beginning and keep climbing because it's 99.9% more consistent. Edit: I just tried doing it at very slow speeds (found out how to improve my climbing even more, and how to scale a single rope so no loss there) and even still I could not find a consistent way to never miss stars dismounting rambi is something I believe you cannot do in mid charge, do you change direction in one frame and jump off rambi once the charge is cancelled like I do with enguarde in lockjaw's saga? I do use the goal switch, but since topsail trouble is the only place where dixie is useful and the boss fight uses dixie, then that's the only place where she's used. I can't see input because I don't have nitsuja's modified SNES9xW, just the improved version 1.43 WIP1 Sargon: What/where two settings?

DCK2-102% World 1 Found out how to shorten link :P Much smoother, all the way up to Krocodile Kauldron, I hate the boss fight though I just wanted to get world one finished tonight, I will redo the boss fight later Let me know if it desynchs at the chest bonus again, it might be that I fail to luck manipulate the chests right so that might be the cause of it there but I'm not sure. Thoughts on my improvements? I definetly saved a few seconds Edit: I won't be penalized for changing sound in start menu? won't it lose frames? and would it solve desynch issues? ach I don't want to start over again again lol

I just found the sound problem, but how do I make the sound be stereo from the reset of the game? If I reset the game the sound will be mono, how do I change this so that when I record from reset it is automatically sterero without me having to go into the menu? I will restart going at a slower speed than before, just finished stage one again and figuring out the sound problem I'll work on faster climbing, water stages need work and I'll post a new WIP of stage one again as soon as I figure out the sound thing. Edit: I just looked at Sami and Arne's movies, and they both start with mono in the game's title menu, so is this not what's the problem?

How's it look so far? Points of interest: Level1: Actually can do the double roll, which looks nice Mostly smooth rolls and great extended rolls in first level, as well as learning how to avoid barrels gaining frames by not running through eeks with rambi Getting the DK coin after third bonus with rambi charge Second level Fast first bonus, can be done better though Finally getting Dixie to save frames on rope Nice double throws Second bonus: is it faster than the SDA method? I can never do that many throw ups, and I feel as if nailing all the guys with a roll from above is faster and more impressive Third bonus faster than SDA slightly Third level Not much, same as SDA all around Couldn't luck manipulate the first bonus at all Fourth level Rolling through the narrow shortcut is hard, but it lets me extend roll through badguy Got an extra jump as water was rising My swimming is not the best, I should practice bonus is nothing special warp shortcut directly from SDA Fifth level 'Sami' calibre warping and double rolling, I also managed a "goal switch" (something I should perfect, I probably will be doing it later in the run) same method as SDA but improved, by doing the level backwards and using better rolling to get to the bonuses faster Boss Nothing special at the boss, Arne_the_great has a glitch but I haven't seen it yet I can't luck manipulate the eggs to be faster, so I rely on dixie to hit the boss as fast as possible I also try to dance to the music, but mess up a few places Thoughts? I'm going to restart this run due to frame advance errors, but any suggestions or tips?

Yay I've solved it!! Just today I started doing my run even without bothering to learn the double roll. I got as far as squawk's shaft, and restarted the run from scratch because I saw a large number of errors. As I was at Kannon's Claim is when I started to notice that I was occasionally doing the double roll. I found that at the "beginning" of areas, the start of a level, the start of a bonus, the re-enter of a level from bonus, etc. made the first "stop" animation after a normal roll to not happen at all, so long as I was holding Y throughout the whole first roll. So now I can do it! So Guybrush your advice was both not-helpful and helpful at the same time I've beaten world one with my second revision, and I'm proud how it turned out except for 4-5 places where frame advance did not make menu options go at first frame, i.e. 3-4 levels did not enter on first available frame and 2-3 bonus's did not enter at first frame. Besides that, it's good as soon as I find out how to post WIPs I will try to get it up, anyone can help me here? Alot of the strategies are the same as the 102% from the SDA, but I intend to put my own creativity into it.

No I've been toying around with TASing for a few months now, ever since I discovered the site and actually managed to make the emulator go to slowdown (that took me longer than it had to) and been playing DCK, DCK2, Super Mario World, etc. using slowdown and savestates to get the feel for it. I haven't made any completed runs, I've gotten to as far as mainbrace mayhem on DCK2 and I sorta stopped when I saw all the attention being put into making this run. Why work on it if someone will beat me to it? Especially since other people have been discovering glitches and stuff that I could never duplicate But now I kinda wanna make a 102% just for the thrill of it, and before I heavily throw myself into it I want to learn how to double roll because it is not essential but handy to know how to do. I know it requires Frame Advance (not my greatest strength, but I know how to do it press pause and hit \) and I'm just wondering if someone can help me to do this move so that I go ahead and make the run.

I have seen that run, that's what got me to try it because everyone says how amazing that run is yet I find a large amount of mistakes in it and a 102% run would look nothing short of beautiful as a TAS But i need help with this one move

Hey I am working on the DKC2 102%, I know it will never be published or be of the calibre I wanted, but I wanted to do it anyway so that I have one TAS under my belt before I try somehting else. And DKC2 is my favorite game What I want to know is how to do the double roll at the beginning of each level? I've nailed most of the other tricks, including extended roll after hitting a monster, but can anyone help me nail this move? The button configuration I use is: (SNES button: keyboard button) B: Z A: X Y: C X: D Start: S Select: A L: Q R: W Any help would be appreciated
