Hang on a second, now you're telling me what I'm supposed to find is more entertaining? How the fuck does that work?

I think that "fun little glitch" just about took away all the fun and potential this game had. Those courses were beat way too fast in my opinion to be any fun, as compared to say what a no glitch runthrough of the stages might have looked like. Oh well.

Plugin problem. Try using Glide64 Wonder ++.

Moi. I'm not very entertained by Super Metroid at all, and all "uber 1337 $Ubp1x31 0p+1m@z@+10n$" look pretty much the same to me (which is saying something, considering I can spot pixel mistakes with ease in other games. When watching in real time.) Differences in route to save in-game time will not look any different to me at all, since I've never played the game and thus will not know a route change when I see it. Hell, the only thing that stood out to me as being visibly new was the Torizo skip. Add in that in-game time saving tricks also look identical to real time strategies, and the run really did nothing for me at all. Neither did the first version.

They *should* explain why they voted no, but not saying why is not a reason to go attacking them like that and saying they don't deserve to vote at all. That's a little over the top.

Very nice movie; rather fun if you ask me, everyone and the dog have played Excitebike, so everyone is familiar with it
I've never played it, my dog prefers GBA, and I'm not familiar with it in the slightest. Don't make over generalizations. Me-likey. yessie vote. I too was under the impression the old movie had no room for improvement anywhere, so that'spretty cool to see such a significant amount of time saved. Granted, I couldn't tell the differences between the speed at all, but I noticed the crashes at the end and the more desire to make the CPUs crash more.

Well, I finally pulled off that ladder zip I was always going on about, and one of the weird properties is that it warps you to the end of the game. So it should be done by tomorrow. Psyche! SwordlessLink hasn't progressed past the first superslide from what I know, so there is still a lot of movie left. This one won't be done for a long time. AKA: that faster variant is amazing. Is there anything unique about the barrier, or can this type of skip be done elsewhere?

Well. I'll stop arguing and keep working, you folks keep doing what you're doing, let's leave it at that and let bygones be bygones.

I have absolutely no idea where you got that from. He asked why we need a workbench if runs are published this quickly. I replied that because the decision making is not as easy for all games as it is for this one and because Bisqwit and the other judges don't have an infinite amount of time. I'll reiterate: The workbench is by no means useless, but in an ideal situation it would not be needed.
So, you're saying that for the most recent "quickly published because it's a popular game" runs, the encoders only had a precious few hours once it was submitted, or else they'd never get the chance to look at it because they're busy? that's complete bullshit and you know it. I don't know about you, but one of the greatest parts about this site for me is the workbench, where a run an author worked long and hard on is shown to the community, and the community gets to take their time and vote on what they thought of it, and submit feedback, point out possible mistakes, and await to see the judge's final result. This luxurious 3 course meal is being given the fast food treatment, and it ends up, rushed, greasy, and the feeling of ickyness in the stomach.

So unless you had planned on voting no for any of the "fast published" movies, and had a damn good reason for it, please be quiet, because it doesn't solve anything.
Turn a blind eye, eh? You know that's how some of corruption in politics works? You're basically saying that my opinion does not matter, and is interfering. I'm sorry, where the hell do I get the gall to think my opinion matters? Jesus fucking christ. I was under the opinion everyone's opinion matters, but I guess I was way out of left field, huh buddy? If you really wanted to know: I was going to vote yes on Gimmick, but it got published too fast. So there's no point. I was going to watch the warped SMB3, but that got published before I was even aware it was submitted. Useless for me to vote at this point. The Warpless run Tompa has been arguing has a missed trick that means it's not optimal, and should be redone. he was promptly ignored, and it was published. I also did not watch it before it got published. I would possibly vote no on it for that missed trick, but too late now eh? I was going to vote no on the harmony of dissonance run if I could find any improvements, improvements which I SAID I HAD THE TIME FOR. I was promptly ignored, and it was published. So really, the whole "respect others thing" has taken a real nosedive lately, which is why I'm really pissed off. Maybe this is because I feel authors should be treated equally, and this has not been the case. Maybe it's because I've always admired the workbench process, and hate to see it made obsolete by publish-trigger-happy encoders. Maybe it's because I work in customer service, where "first come first serve" and other wonderful etiquette guidelines are what we adhere to; but here, someone who submits their run, waits for weeks, then has some asshole submit a popular run and has theirs encoded in 2 microseconds will naturally feel a little let down at being ignored in favor for some other person. Or maybe I'm crazy, and the current attitude of disrespecting people should be the norm.

I think you just confirmed his point that the workbench is, by your reasoning, useless.

Your sarcasm leaves much to be desired. Now go be computer geeks somewhere else and sit at the screen day and night for the next submission.

Great! Now can someone make a no-glitch version of the Maxim run now?
zggzdydp was working on a test run last time I heard from him. The route really needs to be worked out first. He sent me a pic that showed both maps with a possible route going through, but we found a glitch that could in theory change the whole route and force a rethink of the goals of the run. "adelikat: Looks like improvements aren't on the way, so accepting & processing." What, did you not hear the part where I said I had a free week where I could look for improvements? Since you missed it, it's right above NVA's post that says it's published.

I agree with Xkeeper. There is too much "publish these cool runs too fast, and leave the rest to rot in the dust" pedagogue. Xkeeper's solution is perfect.

Its safe to say that its better have a run published within a couple of hours rather than a couple of years.
Why is it better, considering no run has been published after staying in the WB for years? In fact, disregarding that, why is it better to have it published too fast in the first place? Also, do remember that the "early years" was a small number of TASers, with a small number of judges, and the goal of the workbench was to increase the content of the site. I don't think actual competition or even raised quality standards were introduced until 2005 (slight exaggeration, but the point still remains.)

You had your chance. The movie's only 10 minutes long.
Have you ever stopped to consider that a VAST MINORITY of people sit patiently at their computer 24/7 and are always present when a new submissions comes out? Sir VG is right, someone is a little "publish button" trigger happy for absolutely no reason. This reeks of dumbness, way to ruin what was supposed to be cool and epic. I would have voted yes, but there's no need to since I'm a whole day late and with the RPG0 ROM the music is exactly 1 second behind the action on my computer. Also, shouldn't the 99 lives line be taken out of the movie description since the authors do not in fact get those 99 lives in the autoscrolling stages in the published .fcm?

Unlikely, the only thing I could think of that would save time Deign already thought of independently at the same time, that being the 13 frames saved at Dracula Fight. I have a blessed free week of TASing coming up that I would rather dedicate to MM, but you never know what I will find if I go snooping into this run.

I have 6 submissions.... It's always funny when people mistake me for someone who never finishes anything..... Anyhoos, one of the reason I didn't finish it is because there are in fact 39 more stages left in the game. That's still a lot of movie... it's probably going to be half an hour in total, give or take. I really shouldn't be focusing my time on this game. I highly recommend someone else should, though. Oh! My bad.... Here is a link to mrmonkeyman's videos, he completed all 44 stages for the DreamCast version, and the maps are mostly the same between the N6 and DC versions, so for anyone that needs to know where to go and what to do can download those 44 movies. I did, they were very helpful.

This isn't the fastest game (the Dreamcast version is faster) in terms of the mech's moving speed but it has explosions galore. I started something, but realized that the bosses can probably be faster by exploiting the "be close to gun shots so that the special move has extra shots" trick, which would remove the long charge up time. Up to stage 5 complete Check my channel to see the 5 stages uploaded individually. I also think I chose the wrong plugin, the 6th stage boss was invisible. Oh well. Watch, enjoy, and hopefully someone gets motivated to finish it.

Well, guess I now have to go looking for more frames to shave as well... if it's frame war you want, it's frame war you'll get. May the best man win! Edit: but I will vote yes if I fail. Because you are cool

How problematic. Even though I did download FFDShow, I still can't watch the Paper Mario WIP without the music eventually not matching the action on screen... Say, is that what desyncing is? I hear about it but nobody ever explains it.
Desyching is when the input does not match what the game should be doing at that time. The key presses are input that is supposed to make the character do a certain something at a specific point, a desycnh is where the input does not happen where it should, which results in the character moving funny and not interacting with the game the same way that you recorded it. What you are experiencing is something common with .avi's, where the audio has trouble keeping up with the video. This is due to compression, video quality, and your computer's capabilities. In the emulator itself, the music and sounds almost never desynch with what is going on.
