low% never had time as being a huge issue. A low% would have a longer time than any%, because items collected in any% reduce the overall time. I still say you should skip the kokiri sword. Again, not because of the % difference, but because of how cool it would be. I'd want a low% TAS to look AS COMPLETELY different to an any% TAS as much as possible, otherwise I am watching the exact same thing just with a slightly longer time and with fewer items collected. If you can beat the game without collecting the kokiri sword... that'd be awesome, even if it took longer. I would not consider a run that takes kokiri sword instead of deku stick, if that is the ONLY difference, to obsolete it. I'd say "try again buster, get a lower%. what you have is not different enough from the (hopefully published) current run. Plus, he only collected sticks. that takes stones!" Removing stuff from your inventory is a no go. That's cheating. Otherwise you could collect any% items, get a fast time, use a little RBA to remove some things... no. Don't do it. I agree, go for collection. Let the any% try to get the lowest time, and have the most badass moves and RBA loving. Let the low% redefine for people just how precious few items you need to COLLECT in order to beat the game. I'd go so far as to restrict the low% from using RBA, since if you DO end up using it, then why not use it to get the same items/skippage as any%? si my suggestion is to not use RBA and use the very old route of shadow temple and spirit temple early in order to get those two medallions, and beat the game the way Guano did.

I've just had over 2,000 ungrateful customers come in and ruin my day at work. They ALL had to get in their coffee fix and get massive amounts of last minute Christmas shopping - AT A COFFEE SHOP - when they were supposed to leave work early and go home to their families, so that us working can do the same. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... I don't celebrate Christmas, and shall spend as much of the following festive days TASing as I can. But you guys are cool, so you all enjoy your holidays to the best.

Of course, to my eye (and with memory watching) Mario's diving speed increases the greater amount of time he spends in the air. It seems that when he does a big jump (instead of the little jump-dive-roll on ground repeat) and does a dive, is fastest, like 0:03 and 0:05 in the youtube video.

I've taken some time to research optimal backdashing method, and this is the result I got. The name explains the sequence:
frame #1 - backdash (+ turn around if you're facing forward)
frame #2 - jump
frame #3 - attack
#4 to #9 - [nothing]
frame #10 - press the direction you're traveling in
#11 to #15 - hold that direction
------------------------------
frame #16 - start again
Not that it's going to save a lot of time, but… who knows. Actually, I'm not too sure if it's the fastest possible sequence, but at least it's the fastest I've been able to get at the moment. The average speed achieved in the demo is 2.20833 pixels/frame.
This is what moozooh swears by. Also, good to see you back here Yrr. Finish the any% already! :-p arkiandruski, what can that VBAread do that normal memory watching from say Gocha's Tool can't do out of curiosity?

Spider-Waffle, I am going to assume that the info is very easily findable in this thread if only you took the effort to look, but for niceness sake I'm going to sum up what I assume is going on. Ice wall is acting a lot like the magnet beam and rising balloon from Megaman 1 and 2 respectively. To get into the ceilings, Rockman/Forte stands on an ice wall that is being made in mid air, and as the ice wall is formed you are standing on top of it, and get pushed into a ceiling. For going through walls/doors, you form the ice ice wall right behind you, and you get pushed forwards. Lightning bolt is supposed to freeze your x/y movement, and you remain suspended in air/stuck on the ground as you cast lightning bolts. However, it seems that if you get lodged into a corner and whatnot you will move as you do the lightning bolt. If you are inside a vertical wall and cast L. Bolt, you will zip straight down at a very fast speed. If you cast it repeatedly you can continuously zip down very steep vertical walls many screens in length. Hope that helped.

There's 5 easy rupees right inside the shop. I don't think buying the shield from the deku scrub will save time at all.

Yes, because questions about "how do I do this when the info is already available if I actually bother looking" belongs in the respective thread. The stupidness is not precious enough to deserve it's own topic.

It might be impossible to do the cuckoo jump over the Gerudo gate when heading to the spirit temple early. Also, you'd need to use the "doesn't break" deku stick glitch a lot for when you do need to slash.

considering how essential the kokiri sword is for slashing, killing bosses, and other pointy stuff, and how you are EXPECTED to have to collect it to get past mido and beat the deku tree... I'd consider deku sticks to be a lower%.

trust me, skipping the kokiri sword and using the deku sticks up until the master sword is automatically gotten will be more badass than using the sword for low%.

This is pretty much what the any% route was looking like before the forest early discovery was made. This may still be what is used if the odd potion on C right to BA the 3 stones and ocarina and song doesn't work.

Baaaaariiiistaaaaaaa! Ok, so camera phones don't make such big pics and I'm not in full work uniform, but yeah. You can also see my laptop and spare desktop monitor in the background too.

Well, the any% will be picking up so precious few items anyway with BA. If you could beat all of OoT with just the sword, shield, deku sticks, and slingshot (for example), and like nothing else, that'd be impressive. If you collect like 3 less items than the any% BA, then you've accomplished nothing. Any of those low% lists that's been mentioned in this thread closely mirrors the any% BA.

Yes, but think about this. Getting the bottles and deku sticks lets you skip SOOOOOO many more items than if you had to complete those dungeons normally. Also, the hylian shield is skippable.

you can tell if it's a low% if you have to spend far more effort and glitches to get by with fewer items. The running length should be way longer than any%. I'd wait until the any% is done first (especially if the leave forest early trick works), so that you can see what you can skip in that. Also, a low% run would still use bottle adventure, which the any% uses also as well anyways so... I'd wait for any% to be done and published first before jumping to conclusions.

the best acrobatics of any PoP TAS I've bothered to see. The other games are snoozefests, this one gets really insane with all the jumping, going through walls, ceiling hugging, etc. watched through the progress, I like the end result yes vote. The running up the walls move makes me laugh because it is a real life move in gymnastics and martial arts and tumbling. Does any other video game feature it? The only thing that looks questionable is how sometimes you grab ledges, and there's some form of slowdown, and in some other areas in the TAS you find a faster way to avoid the slower animation. examples: when you grab a ledge and climb on to it. you could use the rebound jump to go higher, and sail over the edge, rather than grab onto it. When there are those horizontal bars you shimmy along, there is a lot of slow animations for jumping, for when climbing above. if you hold right, the character actually almost tips over, tries to regain balance, then goes on. But if you set to jump, he just jumps to the next one above him. could you avoid the "regain balance" animation? there's other little small optimizations like this that I might have done differently if I were to have made the movie. I don't know if you tested every single possibility at every single opportunity. But you TAsed it, not me, so I can't make a concrete judgment on it.

Unless Acryte finds a way to get the odd mushroom on C right, in which case he can use BA to get the Ocarina, 3 medallions, and song, all in one go.

That certainly sounds like an accusation to me. Does respecting the thread mean not insulting klmz's work? I don't think he's a "rising star with spectacular movies" either, but you really took a stab at him, he found a trick in an old NES movies that's been unimproved for a long time, and with his movie came bursts of new SMB1 movies. So yeah, take a step down from the high and mighty chair sometime. The oxygen is thinner up on that seat you know, you can breathe easier down here with the rest of us.

I also don't have a blog, so stop pretending that I do. Also, you're not a moderator, so it does little to constantly repeat "please respect thread or it's locked blabbity blah" every time someone says something that you don't like.

Fabian, you run your own "me, me, me, all about me" IRC channel, where the #1 rule is to talk about Fabian, and you also created an "ask Fabian" thread where because you are "the most down to earth and have the best opinions" (not exact words) people can ask you questions and receive answers. You are in no position to be accusing me of anything.

Does "could have potentially (if he wasn't distractible) made many runs in 2007" count? :-D pretty please? Oh, and by excluding 2006, you also cut the number of movies I have by 50%. That makes me sad. Does Mukki get the default "best N64 TASer" for having 2 published N64 runs, more than anyone else? Oh, and AKA you spelled Chamale wrong.

Well, some will be omitted. Remember, Forte just blazes through most of the levels, and his zips are mostly horizontal, not as many vertical (he's capable of doing any type of zip, technically more capable because of his double jump, but in Fractal's WIP he is zipping horizontally way more.) Here, there are far more walls that are zipped through to get to many more different areas that Forte doesn't visit.

I give this the official zipper award: Wowzee. This movie puts Megaman 1 and 2 to shame. Being a more patient kind of person, the rush dog never bothered me in the former 100 CD movie anyways, and you did so many new things when waiting for the dog, like going into the floor so that you can zip past the CD and collect it. There was just so much zipping... zip.... zip... zip... at some parts I wondered because you went past a CD the first time you entered a stage when it seems like it was a short and manageable detour to get it. But the rest of the planning was awesome. I loved when you lightning bolted down like 3 screens, and collected a CD even while wall sinking. Overall, Megaman's inferior speed movement compared to Forte's did not bother me. I look forward to Fractal's run, and give this a BIG YES.
