Well, my old WIP can be improved in various small areas, and I think doing it 2 player is worth it. As I constantly tell many new members, you will not start right off the bat being the best TASer and get instant unbeatable results. TASing takes practice and effort... I redid my very first TAS 8 times until I was satisfied to submit it. 1 year later I'm still not satisfied with the results and aim to eventually do a complete 100% optimal redo. You probably should be using more rerecords than you are. I had about 1,376 while at the same spot you have 249. It's a different and longer way of playing, but more optimal to play frame by frame and have used rerecords to find the first possible frame to jump, turn, swallow, etc. So for this game... I can't watch since I deleted my ROM a long while ago. If you're a minute slower than me, even after 5 stages... that's probably not a good thing. You should probably be using frame advance for everything, it really makes the difference between a good TAS and an excellent TAS. Memory Watching might also be a good idea. Are you using turbo Coo flying? it's the fastest form of flying I found. There was also a transparency bug involving water, so if you really are committed to this, find some settings or something that will make this work the way it's supposed to. Those are two good finds, with getting an ability while going through a door to cancel the animation, and boosting off an animal when getting hit. So keep at it. I think a 2 player kirby run would be real nice to see, kinda like kirby super star.

No, seriously I won't show anything until submission, and I'm steadfast in that decision. You'll all love the surprise factor so much more. You have nothing to fear, it will eventually be complete, I won't leave it unfinished, especially because the reason Nitsuja stopped is the speedrunners kept finding new strats and beating his times (at this point I'm the one that finds new stuff and they need to find ways to incorporate my findings into their runs) and I have memory watching. As to progress wise, I just finished the Migen Sr. segment of the Migen Brawl, which is the 21st level out of 52 (most of the long stages are coming up in world 3 with the day of events. World 4 and 5 are actually shorter than world 3 is). I still have no idea how long the run itself will be in total length... 45 minutes? 50? 55? Do know that 32 minutes will be the mark for the beginning of world 3.

I usually just spammed A in reduced speeds. What might make it not work is if you have your sword drawn out. Getting into the right position to roll towards the peahat is also frustrating.

I just can't. This .m64 is saturated with new techniques, extreme optimization (i.e. NO frame left behind) and loads of other goodies... I'm afraid you'll just have to wait. Submission will come in due time.

I got something better that will get you excited. I redid the last two stages again and got: 2-09: 9.93" 2-10: 9.85" <---- it's now under 10 seconds, which I didn't believe to be possible for this stage. Also, the Migen sr. segment is now 100% optimal, 0.10" or so faster than my first attempt.

That seems to exactly mirror the role Halamantariel and I play for my run. I should give him cookies or something out of appreciation. Now's a good time as any to check this out and see if I'll be anticipating this run or not....

bkDJ's Spiral Mountain was also more optimal because of a better roll/jump method.

I personally think sonic and mario are too fuzzy and hard to see. While it makes the other text easier to read, I still wanna see clearer pics of those 2 characters.

Well, you have no idea how hard splicing in one move into normal playing is. Redoing an entire stage and inserting it is one thing, inserting one move every time it's needed is suicidal. MUGG, if it saves time I'd recommend redoing to use that extended jump thingie. Also, since you're using the J ROM (oh boy, now I gotta go and hunt for that) I'd recommend looking at all the glitches and oddities that Gocha and others have found in the J version, and seeing if these glitches can be replicated elsewhere.

Yes it will prove useful. Thanks for finding that (although it will be tricky to alternatively think in terms of 2.543 microseconds. :-/) Also veysey, I'm sure he's kidding about beating 1-01 by 6 seconds, hence the winking face.

The horizontal rope movement is fast in levels where the rope is on a pulley. I'm sure you mean vertical rope ascension, which is really fast, especially in those rock bluff stages. Also yes the physics are slowed down somewhat, and there's even now more momentum and such. And Enguarde is just as fast as in DKC2.

No I just used some random file upload site, in this case mediafire. DeHackEd has a sub section of microstorage that uploads savestates with the movie file, but it doesn't work with .m64's.

savestate for end of clanker's cavern If you make a savestate at the end of each of Sami's levels, you will have no problems ever. He might redo the current stage, but simply use the savestate before hand. Voila! Was that so tough? Nnnnnnnnnnnoooope! "why the hell are you allowed to even decide it's his duty to even do the run?" I'm not, and I never said I did. It's his decision, and it is not the obligation of the runner to make savestates for watchers. "all I did is asking friendly if he could provide a savestate next time if he were to redo something. notice the word please in my post. yet, appearantly, I can't even ask something here without being yelled at by people I didn't even direct my post at." There has been way too much yelling lately on the forums, and I apologize that you feel I'm yelling at you. "what the hell do you care if I ask for a little something of the runner? it's not like he has to go out of his way, since he should be keeping savestates on his own anyway, so it's hardly much more asked to upload the most relevant savestate aswell." Just how busy of a person is Sami do you think? You have no idea of his time table; he could very well be out doing homework, chasing girls, clubbing, whatever. You don't know his schedule, so don't act like it's his responsibility to take care of your need. Also, you forget that mupen comes with 9 savestates. Sami is probably using all 9 of those savestates to TAS with, meaning that they are unavailable to use. So, no, he probably does not have savestates in the exact spot where you need them, so it'd take him the EXACT amount of time it'd take you to make them. Also, one point you keep missing is it's not like it's hard for YOU to go out of your way to make them. What, does the savestate making button on your keyboard not work? "I mean, he could also just say like "another level finished" and not give out his m64 either. same thing." Different thing actually. You can't watch the movie if he doesn't give the .m64, but you can watch the movie if he doesn't give savestates. "I'm doing a friendly request, and so far Sami is the only one who hasn't provided savestates yet (out of the runs that I follow(ed), which is about 7 or so)" So this automatically makes Sami the bad guy? "without me having to make savestates every minute of the run since it is possible that he redid something SOMEWHERE I CAN'T EVEN PREDICT BEFOREHAND" He clearly says "I'm going to improve this level". Also, we are not making savestates every minute of the run. I have 6 so far. If you're right, I should have 49. "well guess what I'd rather wait for the whole thing to be done than having to do all that as a viewer." Laziness wins, eh? "any input someone could have had during the making of the run won't be of any use to the run if that someone doesn't watch the WIPs. I'm not that desperate for this run. anyone who makes all their own savestates is beyond desperate, imo. it's like as if you intend to coauthor the run and redo parts when you feel like it since you have all the savestates at your possession anyway. " Ok, those of us that make savestates are not desperate. it is quite average to make savestates when watching the progress of longer runs. QUITE AVERAGE. We are also not trying to be co-authors. we won't be actively TASing any part of the run, only a very few of us will make some suggestion for how it can be faster. Being a savestate maker makes you a more dedicated/smart kind of WIP watcher. 1) you can rewatch certains egments over, if you find one level very entertaining or want to review it 2) you won't need to re-watch segments you've already seen.

No. Tompa is right here, no questions asked. The duty of the runner is to make the movie, he has no obligation whatsoever to make savestates just for you. I'm sorry, but WIP watching is not about having everything catered to your needs. If that's what you think, then you're dreadfully wrong. As for the movie, I liked it a lot. I didn't mind the biting to walk faster thing, it was kinda funny. The deathwarp was also good, I don't know why you didn't do this in earlier levels.

Patience oh apprentice of mine. Sami, another idea to see if talon trot jumping or talon trot running is faster is to watch x/y coordinates. Of course, unless there is something that you yourself tested that makes you jump all the time, can you share?

See who can create the most amusing/logical combination of forum member's names, based on if they've co-authored, if they work well together/constantly clash, or if the name simply fits.

I never vote/rate my own movies due to obvious bias, I don't let any inward opinions/feelings/biases directly affect my vote; I judge a submission based entirely on the game itself and how well played the run is, not on who runs it or if I feel jealous or what have you. I like to hope that this same standard is upheld by everyone else, as it IS stated in the rules. There are rules for a reason.

Well, a FPS is going to be much trickier to know what addresses you want as compared to say, a 2D platformer or an RPG. I gave some suggestions to Rising Tempest, but he said he didn't need them; testing usually is sufficient. I'm going to be upfront and say that the best way to find addresses is threefold: 1) familiarity with searching. After you've been using addresses for a while, searching/watching becomes second nature. 2) know what you're looking for. If you know how the address is supposed to behave, you'll be able to identify it better 3) know how you're going to look for it. Know which method of culling will get you the address you need. For speed, stand still, find values of zero, walk a little, search for increase, go to max speed, search for increase, decrease your speed, search for what addresses decreased, then stop, and search for what is now 0, etc. etc. etc. It's a process of elimation, and be sure you understand how you're going to eliminate and why. I love MHS, especially since it is not laggy at all, unlike gocha's tool. It even has other tasty features that I have not tapped into due to lack of computer/hacking knowledge. Horizontal speed probably won't be too necessary; when strafing there's only one speed, right? Vertical speed I can see being helpful since you jump a lot. Is the boss HP shown on the screen? if not, boss HP addresses are immensely helpful. L-Spiro used MHS to make 3D rendered maps for goldeneye. If maps would help with routes, you can ask him to guide you through the process to make Turok maps. Sometimes there's an address whose number indicates what you're character is doing. when searching for speed, you'll sometimes find an address that kinda works, but the max speed number is different based on which direction you're going. Adelikat finds x/y/z coordinates to be very handy for 3d N64 games, sometimes in place of speed addresses. There's probably an in-game timer address too, as well as lag indicator. For MHS, you want to look at byte, short, unsigned short, long, and unsigned long data types. Adelikat still remains my superior in finding 3D addresses (that guy can find an address without searching at all if he wants, just by studying 100+ addresses in the watcher), and he just finished a project so send a query his way. Plus, he "accepted" the game so I'm sure he'd love to help out. You mentioned restarting, I suggest to also just noodle around in your free time, you might find some frame saver that'd you'd rather have from the beginning rather than halfway through. I restarted my JFG .m64 to get the ball rolling for when I start that in the future, and instantly found a frame saver per loading doorway.

JKT and I discussed about the 360 degree spin strategy, which would theoretically achieve 5-6 seconds. Want to give it a try Xenos?

This is exactly what you're supposed to do, mupen is no exception.

Yes, you play the movie back in read only mode, and then when the movie has played to the point where you want to continue recording, make a savestate there (it will save a state, not load one) and then replay the movie in recording mode, and load the state, and you'll be at that spot recording.
