Not me. My encodes take way too long and are massive filesize when doing any N64 section more than 3ish minutes.

He's indeed something special considering how well he does in such a early SM-TASing stage.
He saved 1 frame in one spot, likely because Moozooh overlooked something; it happens all the time. I say wait for consistency (which may very well happen, in which case kudos) before you start shitting your pants with this whole "this new guy is teh shiz".

It can in two ways.

As pointed out, JXQ's route without any wall sinking can be improved with new techniques. There's also the Long Maxim test run that I started (and likely won't finish)... I suspect the first boss can be beaten faster, that there's frames of error, and mainly a route is needed. So yes, there are still two non-warp runs that can (and should) be made. On another note, I wake up at 6:50, check the WB, see this has 9 votes, head to work... when I check again at lunchtime, publish?? That sure was fast.

Was it just me, or was the youtube vid insanely crisp quality for a youtube upload? Good stuff.

Ah. Well, don't forget that if all else fails, I can always rely on my laziness and distractibility to keep those runs and others waiting for years to be finished.

And yeah; if adding record reset doesn't work, would fixing synch stability and the pause bug for OoT at least work?

I still do.
[18:27] <okaygo>	No, cold resets.
[18:27]	<okaygo>	Hard reset = clear sram, and data
[18:28]	<okaygo>	cold reset = power on/off
[18:28]	<okaygo>	soft reset = reset button
A look at the site rules on using cold resets and if they'd be allowed. I'm also slightly curious why you're all so adamant about me using resets to shave a boring 3 minutes of the same cinematic 3 times repeated off the MK64 run. And deathwarps removed the need for recording resets for OoT. I'd rather have synch stability and no pause bug before working more with that run.

Dear Upthorn, You've just made a Flop very happy. I can see where the robots are (but I need a better method for zooming in to see the bigger picture), and I can even see where every slope is and if it's uphill or down quite plainly 3D wise, so I can plan out every hill boost. And the position addresses will be quite useful. Kudos.

Ah ok. The phrase "how do you plan to invest your time" seemed like a stab at how I manage projects. So let's see.... MMF should most certainly be done by the end of the summer if not sooner.... and the whole run will be done probably late next year most likely, possibly early 2009. It is so hard to tell, especially since I also have to get this GBA run done, as well as OoT, Sonic 3D Blast, improve my DKC2 102%, get the full Maxim run done (unlikely though), and find time to complete the StarFox 64 High Score run as well (way far in the future though). I'm not working on all 6 at the same time btw, only one or two of the above currently. Edit: record reset worked with a beta version of mupen, so things look good for having that feature in the movie.

yes, nice and optimal. and all the driving off track reminds me so much of the mario kart series. "My next project? Probably a Mario Kart 64 Flower Cup test run." Hehe, surely you mean star cup? You've already done flower :-P

It'll take as long as it takes, which will likely be a very long while. Also, MMF will be the last public WIP; how you handle that wait is up to you. As I said above, I'm waiting to see if some form of mupen can be made/posted that has record reset, which may also delay the run further.

Would the player coordinates be useful for me to TAS with to know what is pixel-wise faster? I sort of have to work with pixel optimizations without knowing the exact pixel numbers... (for example, Sonic's running speed with speed shoes ranges from 99-103, and I jump and roll to try and preserve the 103 speed as much as possible, which doesn't seem to save frames in short distances.)

I'll manage. It is currently summertime after all. But it's far easier without people harrying me with questions like that one.

This is the third time I've done this stage, and even Nitsuja has looked over and made route improvements, which I fully optimized with sub pixel speed preserving and boosting off every available hill. I believe that's as low as it can go, and I'm ready to move to the next stage. Raiscan, some stages in the future are much bigger than this first one; as an example, the next stage's WR time is 1:13, there's 3 sets of Flickies instead of 2, and the map is, I'm guessing about twice as big as the first stage. (and about 33% of the stages in the game are about that size or possibly bigger.) I'm not knowledgeable enough to have MHS hack some 3d image maps from the ROM. So 2-5 hours of your time for each maps means, well, that you're beyond cool.

I hope this doesn't make you pull hair... The first half of the vid is looking off screen to make the barrels go through the krocs that hold the DK coins. The rest of the movie is fluff stuff. Could definitely save time in collecting the DK coins. Anyways, I hope you can incorporate in this run (even if a redo is needed).

That's the lowest I believe. I took advantage of every slope, and improved Nitusja's route by 54 frames which was already faster than mine.

I assume you still won't be getting the special stages?
Correct. Saturn version is better suited for that.

I love Futurama and Dr. Zoidberg! I'm still hoping senor Upthorn or Raiscan can provide good maps. Redoing all stages 3 times each does not sound happy to me.

I'm halfway between yes and meh, closer to yes. It's Tetris, you beat it fast, but the pauses were constant and sometimes seemed longer than necessary compared to the published Tetris movie.

you forgot to lick little Bowser in the ass when he was knocked out. But besides that... yeah, good job and you two beat me to it with a clever route change and an acceleration trick that I hadn't thought of.

This is why I was asking. But intro/1-1 seems optimal anyways, since it has tons of coins everywhere.

I probably don't move optimally in the beginning but I don't feel like doing it all over again. For column 1 it's fortunately the number of coins that determine the level you go to. So you just have to pick up 68 coins. There could be other levels one could try first instead of 1-1 where it's easier to get coins. 2-4, 3-8 and 6-4 aren't available. Dang you beat me to it. I'd be delighted to 100% optimize it. Just so I don't mess anything up: all I have to do is get 68 coins as fast as possible in the intro world and 1-1? Or can those 68 coins be anywhere?

Also, I was wondering, is there any time-saving value in ending a level by hitting the end "ring" at the lowest possible point, or does the game just make up for the extra falling time anyway? This is a general question about the game, by the way; not related to HHS' video.
Yes, as seen in my any% 1-1 (which ironically now serves no purpose) I saved 5 frames from touching the very bottom of the roulette circle. There's other little frame savers I found when watching the published run on my iPod like once every day for the past 3 weeks.
