Interestingly, I made this same inquiry last night when planning the new route with Acryte. You and I think too much alike :-p

Easy solution: bombchu bowling before then, i.e. before any other dungeons, maybe when getting the Lon Lon Ranch bottle (is it real easy and fast to get this? any night/day issues i.e. will we spend too many minutes waiting for daylight?) no need to get kakiriko bottle then, since grabbing the cuccoos takes a few min on its own.

Where else can we get Deku nuts (if we aren't going to Spirit early) should we get them in Deku Tree or elsewhere? How can you do a hover superslide without skipping the hoverboots, because we're skipping the hookshot? (there is that gap in shadow temple that needs crossing...) How can we even do Epona early, without the sword? without chus or spirit early (silver guantlets), how exactly are we going to get into, or even do dodongo's cavern without doing bombchu bowling first? ugh, too much "we can't do this" words on my part, what the heck do I know? I'm hoping these are valid questions with easy answers.

The only reason your getting hover boots if for the broken bridge, yes? Getting hover boots takes traveling to graveyard, four bomb hovers, and going to and killing that arm guy. Wouldn’t bomb hovers plus side hop to cross broken bridge be much faster than this? Could you use bombchus or sling shot/ bow to speed it up? How many would it take, like 8-10? Remember you’re already doing four the other way plus all that other stuff.
Also keeping in mind that you can use reverse BA to replenish bombchus, giving seemingly endless amounts. Unless of course Hoverboots are gotten for that. I dunno, the "rainbow Bridge" cutscene really is not that bad, I'm sure that getting the hoverboots takes longer than watching the bridge appear. But wait, I forgot, what is Ganon early? is it a way of skipping the tower and going instantly to some Ganon fight?

4 of the coruses in the full race are going to be the "tricking lakitu" style shortcut that people do not seem to enjoy in this run. (3 official, 1 short course that a few people will go "is that it?") In mushroom cup, no course lap skips like this exist that are exploitable in Time Trial. in GP, Luigi Raceway had the CPU boost, but that does not detract from entertainment, as many people seem to enjoy it. That type of boost is only possible in two other courses, Wario Stadium (where it wouldn't be used anyways) and Mario Raceway, which probably will not use it, but needs testing on if it could save time. Mushroom cup: Moo Moo Farm has none. Koopa Troopa Beach is INCREDIBLY complex, we don't know what shortcuts can be done yet. there might be a lap skip, but none has been found before, and it won't be boring. Kalamari desert there's a way to skip one lap, but it's cool as hell, and involves awesome timing, aim, and manipulation. Flower Cup: Only course that has the "boring skipping laps" is Frappe Snowland. Star Cup: Wario Stadium is the shortest of the courses, in that you'll drive circles. However, you'll do so in a cool, and (for those that wouldn't think of it) unexpected way. But to be sure, it was a very obvious discovery. Star has some cool shortcuts and tricks, but none are the tricking lakitu style.

I proved "snaking" to be horribly ineffective. what you see in the TT vids and in Banshee Boardwalk in this run- doing Mini Turbos about every 2 seconds, and holding R when under a shroom/boost effect- has been proven to be the fastest.

I don't sleep, and even I don't work as fast as you do! I'm beginning to get this feeling that you TAS in an alternate dimension where time does not exist. ok, so the level was fast and well done. no complaints. my only question is rematch against koopa the quick.... you seemed to go around the entire island, was this faster?

well then, wouldn't every level use a checkpoint restart then for respawns of enemies? or maybe I'm missing something. Oh well, you're the boss m'lady!

No more from nangosan? aw, I was hoping he'd take a stab at Zoness... oh well. His recent Sector Y vid was done on expert, so that can't help us as much as his normal vid. and he's still missing enemies. About the whole death/checkpoint stuff.... the TAS will take damage to increase score (for sector Y and noticeably for Aquas) but there will not be any deaths. They are anti-climactic, not as entertaining, and sort of "cheating" by utilizing respawns of enemies and bombs. Think of it this way: Fox is the greatest pilot in the galaxy, does he need to cheat a little to get a highest score as possible by using death? no, he gets the highest score in one fell swoop, because he's that hardcore and it looks smoother, like he can weave through thousands of enemies, amass a high score, and not die in the process. Slippy, Falco and Peppy provide solid objects to CUS against in Sector Y, which is very helpful because it's a level in space and sometimes you need solid objects, besides enemies to CUS off of. So I'm thinking maybe killing Slippy in Corneria is NOT such a hot idea. I don't remember off the top of my head if there's any enemies that chase after him like in Meteo, that would provide more enemy spawns if he's not around. Anyone want to confirm?

Of course it's a double edged sword. Link has a sword! It has edges on both sides I should hope! As those watching the 100% segments might notice, ratio wise it would include less backwalking than the first published any%. And those in the know know full well that I'm a certain fan of sidehopping... And will this run impress the OoT haters? probably not. Despite being shorter, it might involve lots of item swapping and generally more confusing stuff that they'd not understand and just go "bah, it was faster, still hated it." I do plan on helping making it as frame precise as possible, and explore every single time and frame saver to truly make this the fastest possible run of the game with current (and maybe foreseeable) knowledge, so they won't be able to catch me with my pants down on that score :-P

Route Changes: Child: Get Sword + Shield Beat Deku Tree + Grab Slingshot Grab Super Cucco bottle (you can't do this if you don't wake Talon huh? if that is the case do Kakariko Bottle... the time difference is probably less than making a pointless trip to hyrule castle, especially if we are on our way to Dodongo's Cavern) Early Spirit (Bombchus) -> we must weigh the difference and time saved... we don't need requiem anymore... we may profit from beating dodongo's normally and not even going to spirit at all... then we could just do dodongo's normally (and lose time) but still have bombbag upgrade from the bowling to use for jabu jabu and in order to skip King Ruto and keep the Letter in the Bottle. We would have some for when we do in fact to go Gerudo Valley to get the Odd Mushroom (if that is indeed faster...) If you need more bombs eventually I'd suggest Jumping down and getting a full LonLon Milk in your bottle from that cow. That way after you use up almost all your Bombs doing BombHover to the Odd Mushroom, you can refill them if need be later off Reverse BA... Question is, how many bombs do we even need? We can skip Hoverboots (actually can we? because I know the bridge is broken as an adult but can we superjump it because I know longshot needs to be skipped...), Hookshot, [unfinished]
Some of these confuse me. (maybe I just don't fully comprehend the sporadic way your mind works...) I prefer to see a list of what to do in what order, but I guess since it's still in the figuring out stages it can be disorganized... still... ugh, some of these start to make sense when I look at them more, some still befuddle. I should probably leave it in your hands. I thought having the forest, shadow, and spirit medallions makes the bridge appear. so if the goron sword is turned into the medallions, we don't need hoverboots, or hookshot. But then if a superjump is used, doesn't that defeat the purpose of the new discoveries, since we still need to get hoverboots, and the hookshot, and such in order to get the forest medallion to travel through time? if that's the case, what has changed from v2?

Guano and I are going to do this together it appears. The route is different enough to warrant my interest (as I expressed, I don't like redoing what's already been done, and it was suggested for me to obsolete the any% v2 progress, which I disliked. with a new route and much shorter expected time, this is more appealing to me), and to be frank I don't think this community is ready for a 5:45 hour movie of 100% (plus I waited on 4 things for 100% to start; with this, we only have 1, waiting for a route to be constructed.) IMO, SDA's watchers are more patient and equipped to watching longer runs. When TAS's push the 1 hour limit is when our people start to get antsy (and even less than an hour, sometimes half an hour pushes people's attention limits.) so sub 1:45 seems like a more anticipated, watchable goal than sub 6 hours. I've taken the v2 route wiki page and centered it more for v3, so it's ready for basic route creation, and then editing/refining. I've already included Acryte's descriptions of his findings so those reading will now what requirements need to be filled for the v3 route. JSmith: I can't answer either of those. BA and reverse BA confuses the shit out of me. I know what the end result is, but the technicality and order of it, and how it works baffles me. Demonstrate: OoT is never going to outmatch SM64 on this site ever. far too many people have ingrained ideas that SM64 is the best (and only) N64 game oriented for TASing, and their beliefs cannot be changed (I try very hard to change these pedagogues on a daily basis.) The OoTers on this site and elsewhere (which still consists of a LOT of people) are going to have their lifelong dream of having a sub 2 hour any% finally be accomplished, but OoT haters will always remain so, no matter how short the game is beaten. Guano: Cutest baby girl I have seen in a long while (then again, I don't look at baby pictures that often, but she's a heartwarmer.)

I'm not sure how early the new route starts diverging, but pretty early I'm guessing since it might be beneficial to get some extra stuff as kid link. I think we'd need to see the new route completed first, and find exactly where the diverge occurs, and if it's early enough to merit a restart (which I already have a good jump on in a roundabout way) or if taking your .m64 and starting from mid way or later. And if it's going to be taking the game to the maximum fastest, might as well do it right from the beginning. Fortunately, I already have a frame perfect start up to the slingshot that's already 6 seconds faster... and that first owl skip begs to be used...

I neither have paypal nor want donations. In fact, I feel bad for being the first person to inspire such an idea. My motivation is the audience, who has given me enough input in this thread to make me continue, since I have seen from the majority of people "watched the run, would prefer to see all cups AND/OR want to see all cups completed regardless." Seems everyone wants the whole pie and not just a slice, so time to get back to the kitchen and get baking.

Holy Crap! This would actually give me motivation to not do 100% but to do this new BA run instead. I was never in the mood to redo guano's run to save frames, but was only interested if a complete new route was done that would guarantee sub 2 hours, and it looks like there's one now. Awesome! Guano, thoughts?

ok then. watch the shortcut vids where available, but do not watch frappe snowland, wario stadium, donkey kong jungle parkway, or yoshi valley. all other 12 courses are fair game though, pertaining to your desires.

you (and everyone saying "I hate the lap glitches") would be very interested in the NON-shortcut time trial vids. Any video listed here without 'sc' is a course played "the way it was intended". Some faster vids, again using the same "no sc in title" can be found at www.wrvids.com. as weatherton explained in the submission text, he could not manipulate 3 triple green shells in 8th place.

Hm, if there's something wrong with the AVI, and enough people would prefer to see it in AVI form and don't like the audio issues I can take time today to make a good encode of it.

Sorry you feel that way Micheal, but to a MK64 newbie this movie looks nice to watch. I'm sure alot of viewers would like to watch it.
However, "Micheal" has a point. A TAS should beat known world records if aiming for speed, and if it isn't the case, as he has reported, then it shouldn't be published. Rules say:
If your movie is going to beat something, be sure it beats it. If your tool-assisted movie is slower than the non-tool-assisted world record of the game you play, your movie will almost certainly be rejected.
Weatherton didn't fail. the TT WR for 3 laps is 1"44"44. Weatherton got 1"29"80. He got a faster time than the real time record, but Fried is trying to point out that it can be still faster. it's a question of the precision. The WR real time runs are nigh unbeatable by real time runners, because of the limits of human skill and reflex that they possess, they've taken the course and pushed it to its theoretical limits within TT mode that is possible by human players that play the game on a daily basis. This TAS pushes the limit on real time TT mode, but in its own category of tool assisted, a future TAS can beat this one.

The file desyncs for me after the first two courses. Also, the time at the end of each race in the movie is different from what you listed in the submission. Can anyone tell me if it gets more interesting to watch after the first two courses? Otherwise I'll be inclined to vote no from lack of entertainment and beating the game half-assedly.
Did you have the right settings? I've seen the movie a few times and everything works out fine. Weahterton posted an AVI of the entire run. I'd definitely recommend watching the next two courses. Regardless of how imprecise Fried says it is, the best courses of this run are the two that you haven't seen yet.

Kind Request for forum mods to take all debating posts, including mine, to be shunted to the Mario Kart 64 thread for further discussion, so as not to stray away from this submission. ones to stay here: Comicalflop (initial post with content pertaining to my vote on the submission, none afterwards. that can be moved alongside others to MK64 thread) laughing_gas Hero of the Day Inzult Michael Fried Nitsuja SpockyBiemmichab AKA (and any others I may have missed that contained a vote) sorry if this sounds like I'm making a demand, but I realize there was too much debate about a different run in progress, and not as much with this submission.

I am human, and have every right to my feelings. Something that many authors before me have had is demonstrating things first in TAS's that the community was either anticipating or not expecting. I'm allowed to be upset when that is taken from me. And I'm not stretching the definition; I think my definition is clearer, Upthorn's seems initially to be correct but has a majors flaws. Motivation and anticipation are key factors in making movies. Nothing feels better when making a run than someone saying "loved, it, keep it up!" this is why I take a look at some people's work that wouldn't normally be looked at a lot, in order to give them confidence. As I've stated before, I have a mixed bag of personal motivation to complete it (as shown in first post) and a desire to give the audience what they anticipate. This is conflicting by your argumanets, but it seems to me to be a combination of motivators; you don;t do so well on TASes that bore you, and you make TASes for your audience to enjoy, or you wouldn't be making it entertaining. Does that make me hypocritical, since you're implying a pride movie is one or the other (even fi you can't decide which it is?) Many authors I know of strive for both, does that make us all bad with your definition of pride? And guess what? Had you read through all of my comments (which is something I do not think people are doing, which is a bad thing) you'll see that I was giving mature reasons for considering quitting or not. None of them have to do with "waaaaah, I wasn't first!" It was "why should I bother to do so much work to create something that will not surprise the audience with new stuff?"
