I never noticed any of my attacks doing less damage to multiple opponents, and definetly at the Master Hand all my down drill attacks did the same damage- in fact I made sure that each drill does its maximum damage, which is around 30%. And that's trainer's mode, I don't know if that affects anything or not. any screenshot suggestions?

Run's complete. Just beat the Master Hand in a good time.... I hope you like the down+a drill attack, because I use it solely for speed and to get Hawk bonus. Now I'm gonna write up the submission text, because it's going to be very long, and then wait for antd, I know you want me to submit now but unless you have another week going I think they should be submitted at the same time for coolness factor.

I agree. As an arguing chatterbox myself, it sounds appealing, however it could too easily get WAY out of control, and the main point is there is no universal standard of speed vs. entertainment since games are, invariably, different. back to this run: is it being run? I'm hooked on those vids, this is a very entertaining run. I watched the SDA single segment which was great to get an idea of the whole run, and I have this TAS on my dying to see list for a reason.

Nitsuja's TAS input plugin has turbo function for every N64 button. So that shouldn't be a problem. I just watched the SDA Perfect Dark Runs, and while some were annoying because they had songs playing over them and were black and white, the others were really fast and awesome. and Aliens were in it :P (no, I had never beaten the game before, having never gotten past Chicago damn that floating laser.)

I'm just gonna stick with using all cutter+ stone, because it's hard enough as it is killing them as fast as possible, although yeah getting a star clear would be nice. In my attempt to improve I seem to be behind on time? hm? I'll see if that's really true or not, this fight might take me a while to optimize, and my test run may be what I go with if I cannot produce anything better. OK, couldn't do all suggestions, but got 4:03, no mistakes, with a score of 1529911. Polygon Team v2 .m64

the edit you made makes sense. That would explain it, because I clearly followed the rule of the last one hitting a planted mine and no bonus. So I am going to redo the level, taking out the grabbed mine because it looks like a mistake, and redo a lot of the ways I kill enemies because at the beginning I was clearly trying to make sure that everyone got sent into the background, and halfway I realized that was impossible so I started killing them in new ways. I hate redoing, but here it is definetly nescessary. Expect more stone, and keeping cutters to kill enemies that are near the top. What I have to avoid is having the projectile part of cutter hit anyone, because that nullifies my hawk bonus.

fortunately the fire alarm pulling craze stopped here, which is good. But for the past month I have been TASing in the cold, because there is no heat in my room. I swear to god, I was TASing with gloves and a jacket on. no joke. I just got it fixed today with a bonus external heater radiotor next to my desk, but the month until today was unbearable.

correct. the only thing that seems lost is the lower that stone falls the less the enemies go, and the more you use one attack, the more likely you'll get cheap shot, but I think that's only against one opponent. And I'm using cutter + stone not for it's damaging power, but it's ability to send them off the screen. ok, so I finished... and forgot to use the proximity mine! here's what I got without it: no item (because I need to have thrown it) hawk no damage no miss x 10 full power smashless special move fighter stance what I need to do is figure out how to incorporate that proximity mine for another 12,000 points. ideas? I have two polygons falling down at the same time, do I plant it and cutter/stone them into it? ok, so apparently the booby trap bonus does not work at all. I planted the bomb, and hit the last polygon right into it, and KABOOM! no bonus. huh? So, I'm probably just going to head onto to Master Hand. I'm holding the mine throughout the whole fight, but grabbing the mine manipulated one of the enemies to exactly where I wanted him to be, so I'm not counting it as a mistake. and I can redo the last section if someone can find out what triggers booby trap bonus. Polygon Team test run .m64

I'm having some difficulty in the polygon fight, in that I don't know what to do strategy wise for score. I was using cutters, and sending them into the sky and now I have a proximity mine for the last kill, but DK requires a stone, as do a few more opponents that are in tricky spots who do not die instantly from one cutter. Likely the mine + stone will ruin the trickster, but hopefully the booby trap will make up for that, would the differences in attack consistency decrease the quality? This is nowhere as easy as Yoshi Team where they all fell in place and double kills made the pattern very easy. ok, so I'll do cutters +stones where nescessary, and throw a proximity mine for the final kill and see what score I get. If it's good, on to Master Hand. If not, redo.

Yep, I'm planning on ending right after Master Hand fight. It should be done this weekend. The 'end', i.e. last input, is going to be the last button press needed to get from the score tally to the cutscene where Kirby is revealed to be a doll. Or, it could possibly be a last hit against Master Hand, a look at nico's first submission will reveal that. Whichever, it's not going to do Ness fight or unnescessary scrolling through credits. About Samus, at 0% it takes so long for her to die off the screen. I have, through playing this game so many times, never seen Samus at 0% die from the lava- she always manages to find her way back to the platform. What I do is faster, breaks the monotony, and still gets a kind of close score. As per the run's "goals" if a pacifist kill were possible in 14 seconds, then that's what I would have done, but the lava ruins everything by making a pacifist kill take so frickin' long, wherein with the strategy I used it gives me an extra 11500 points in a short amount of time, and, IMO is entertaining. Polygon team is going to be done the same as Yoshi Team. I'm going to in submission text make a huge explanation for why the Kirby team was done differently than Yoshi/Polygon. In fact, expect the submission text to be very long in general, for I'm quite wordy. Edit: Final input is going to be the button press that makes the tally score go to the credits. For the encoders, I was right, Ness won't appear after the "INCREDIBLE!" unless you press a button, so no accidental going to the Ness fight. If anybody has any strategies for Masterhand before I get there, feel free to think them up/test them out as I do polygon team. All the youtube Links are up- I'm lazy so I'm not going to list the links for them all. youtube links- Comicalflop's videos you'll see theme asily enough. hehe I got a terminal mine very early on, so expect a booby trap final kill. Hopefully that won't nullify hawk if I throw it from the air, and should give me a booby trap bonus. wait a minute, a booby trap cannot have the last polygon end with a trickster finish, since I have never seen an explosion make them go up... CRAP!! um, I guess sacrifing 10,000 points for 12,000 is ok. I'll redo if not.

Kirby's dash at the end loses frames, I tested. For Pikachu, manipulating him was not possible. If I had tried something different in any other way, he would've attacked me; Pikachu is very good at attacking in the air. doing a jump/forward drill over him is the best, just like for the rolling bomb section.

Yeah, I though that skipping the temples alone should save a lot of time on its own. I don't know what's causing the desynch problems, but keep at it.

Excellent. You're at Board the Platform correct? any chance for a .m64 or a WMV of your DK fight? Do you think similarly you'll be done by this weekend? What do you think of the levels I've got so far up to Fighting Polygon Team? they look good? youtube links currently processing... 3 out of 5 are done

Thanks. Kirby's down drill was difficult to control, but once I got the hang of it it turned out great. My only complaint is that once samus is that high damage there is no way to send her to the left of the screen in less distance while keeping hawk- even a normal a tap sent her flying off the screen. I also wish I could spike her faster, but it didn't work. as I mentioned earlier, projected final score is 2.5+ million. Should be done by this weekend if all goes well. Edit: I just tested something- the mistake I mentioned in the intro screen for Mario Bros. is not a mistake. Any intro screen with allies naturally takes a little bit longer, as is evident by the DK intro screen, with allies. I turboed A and Start optimally, and it took the same amount of time, so no mistake there. I'm starting to make AVI's of the 4 latest stages, so I'll get those up today.

Is the Zora flying out of water glitch going to be used? That'd be really fun to see

No, I can't do both of those. It's either fast credits + Ness fight or normal credits + No Ness fight. Not from a technical standpoint, in that it's not possible, but it A) increases the frame length of the movie, you're supposed to end on the first possible frame and B) makes the ending WAY short, the credits should roll in full.

I've kinda fallen behind on the WMV/youtubes of the everything from the latest BtP stage and after. I have some homework that needs doing, so not tonight, but tomorrow I'll see if I can get those 4 stages some WMV's and get them uploaded to youtube. And speaking of which, the weekend is coming up = the run should be finished by then. Hopefully antd will get back to his fastest completion soon so that we can submit together. That will of course give me lots of time to perfect my Master Hand Fight.

To me, an encore would be not fastest way to beat Ness, because like the Fox vs. Ness fight it'd be boring, but rather to rack up as much %damage as possible, while keeping Ness alive for some killer combo. I'm still against including it however. I just did some rough calculations, at the rate I'm going I am going to easily reach 2.5 million, assuming score wise I don't improve on the next 3 stages, although I most definetly will. 2.6 mil I'm not sure, but it'd be cool if it was possible.

I say, prove us wrong that it's not entertaining! Give it a shot, see what happens. More than just producing runs is making test runs of games to see if they're good TAS material.

2.3 is what psychoticworm got on his first tool asisted vid, before he beat it again. TwinGalaxies has psychoticworm's 1.8 mil on the site. Any thoughts on Ness fight? yes or no, and reasons?

non-TAS record for what? be a little specific. psychoticworm's best vid IS tool assisted, but his non assisted is 1.8 mil. His highest tool asisted is 2.4 mil, I'm hoping to get at least 2.5 or higher. I hope that was what you were looking for. Thanks for your Metal Mario AVI by the way, I'm sure I beat it by many frames because it seems like the in-game counter just barely hit 4:58, I unfortunately couldn't squeeze any more time out of it. Since I'm getting pretty close to the end, I'd like to open the discussion for fighting Ness or not. Pros: More action, the credits get to be passed very fast which is entertaining, gives Kirby/Fox the chance for one last fight, plus a great chance to do some awesome comboing/showing off. Not that there isn't plenty in the stages :P Cons: Greatly descreases from a solid ending, since technically, beating the Master Hand IS the end, and Ness is a bonus. The credits will roll and it goes to "INCREDIBLE!!" and will actually stay that way unless a button is pressed, thus for encoders prevents from accidentily going to the Ness fight.
