Link is done, I got the exact same time as the new vid, for some reason the very first time I attempted this stage I got 4:51 extremely easy, and the next time I did it took many tries simply to get 4:51. I was extremely close to getting 4:54, but I was one frame off and couldn't manipulate Link that way again. Vs. Link Test run done I can probably optimize it later, to see if I can really shave off that last second or two. It's official- there is no getting any bonuses from being on the bottom of the screen out of normal view. Thoughts?

well, I got a .m64 that works the ways it's supposed to. Time to optmize Link! I think 4:51 is the limit of optimization, unless I can truly get Link to follow me zealously.

Yeah that might be it... two instances is not good, use one Mupen I just tested, and when you're trying to review the work that's just been done, if you reset the ROM or reload the ROM, it might desynch... but shutting down Mupen, reopening it, loading the ROM, waiting a while and then playing the .m64 makes it work every time. So now I know I have a .m64 that shouldn't desynch for anyone.

or, this is the easy way out, rerecord until you reach your destination, who can tell if it's optimized? :P no seriously, the memory values is a good idea.

yeah I had bad experiences with past admins and other beings in high power, plus a few months back Bisqwit yelled at me for my lack of knowing my avatar was too big. So I tend to tread lightly in these areas when I feel I might've toed the line or at least gotten on someone's nerves. It'd be to make a Comicalflop home page, much like how most of the editors have one. I might also want to take a look at how FractalFusion posted his progress in a chart for his MMX run, and use it for the 3-4 runs I'm working on.

Yes that's probably right for recording AVI's. I however was having to do that EVERY time to get the movie to play right. I find that strange, since our menu navigating was actually faster because than Nico's because we move the cursor faster and select character first... you selected Fox first, then very hard, then stock, whereas Nico chose very hard then Fox, so in actuality that, plus you beating by one in game timer, means you should be ~2 seconds ahead of him, so I don't know how he's at the same frame as you.

I actually just got a new .m64 to no matter where in the movie, to reset the ROM just like in Kirby 64... I think it's the way it's supposed to go, not pause 1 frame before like antd said... try this instead and see if it works. Downloaded the vid, the soud is a little quiet, I can't wait to see the new strategies, this is gonna rock... BTW I also managed 4:51 in Link my first try, so optimized I might be able to squeeze maybe at best one more time unit. no matter what time/score I get, I'm still going to consider you a greater player for two reasons: A) making the run in the first place, you pioneered this on your own and B) you did it in real time, that takes more skill. I'm looking foward to this, the weekend is coming soon so that I can optimize Link and start Yoshi team (hopefully)

actually, as DeHackEd has shown that is probably not the right method, as evidenced by the short AVI he made of my menu navigation. I think I have it right this time with my posted .m64.

I don't think that's it, I think that SSB input movies just don't like reseting the ROM before they start, I played back Kirby 64 .m64 that I'm working on and no matter at what part in the game I'm at, if I played back the Kirby 64 .m64 it would automatically reset the ROM and run perfectly, wgereas the SSB .m64 seems to start at whatever part the ROM is at; how do I change that?

yeah that's a desynch all right... I noticed that happened to me a bunch of times, the only way I could have it run right was if I loaded the ROM, hit pause before the ROM started so it was paused on frame 0, and replay the movie file, and it worked... I assume I'm doing it all wrong though. Apparently the "begin recording at start" is not the same as record from reset, which lead to some problems with it not automatically starting with a hard reset of the game but more like starting input whever the game was at that point. what am I doing wrong? that's a shame too, I just got 4:51 on Link whereas psychoticworm had gotten 4:48. I think I just need to switch to gl64 0.4.1, because that resets the game when I replay the movie. So I'll remake using that plugin, see if it helps. um or not.... how do I start a recording of a movie using Mupen so that it makes it begin at the very beginning of the reset of the ROM?

would it be possible for either bkDJ or DeHackEd to encode AVIs of the stages for both runs as WIP .m64's are released? either of you two want to?

Without a homepage, it won't form a link. * Homepages are denoted by a house icon on the RecentChanges page.
oh ok I did not realize this difference. I understand those 4 points now. so could I have such a homepage created? can you make that happen, or have I been too much of a slight nuisance the past 3 hours? (which I apologize for)

possibly... but the character running is *incredibly* fast. I didn't think it was *that* dark, but it's dark to be sure, not as colorful as, say, Yoshi's Island. and it emulated pretty well on Mupen, so it might be the closest thing to a Doom TAS at the time being.

True. "This page does not yet exist. Want to create it? * Become an editor. * Click Edit this page. * Write the page content, and click Save to create the page. Note: When creating new pages, always ensure that there is some other page that links to the newly created page. Otherwise your page will just become a wiki orphan that will be quickly forgotten." it still doesn't help non editors to make their own home pages. Everything I see described about making a player homepage specifically requires editor status. I'm sorry if I'm probably being very assertive about this, I'm running on a little bit of low sleep *yawn* and was wondering if in my spare time I could figure out this stuff on my own, and came upon this little speedbump and noticed the permission list is (if I read it correctly) inaccurate. I'm sorry to have been a slight hassle for the past 1-2 hours, thanks for making this a new thread. Truncated had linked me to the ignore semi-important goal thread where you posted the list and I started posting there.

I find Snes I use the keyboard, since Z X C V can handle the B X Y A buttons on the Snes controller. I find L and R not used, but they're Q and W for ease. plus F for Frame advance and D for pause/unpause. The gamepad really comes in handy for N64 emulation, since the analog stick is superior to the TAS input Plugin for a few things. while the plugin can have much greater precision control, you must use frame advance exclusively to do so, and cannot do real time test runs of levels.

yes, I noticed that the tasvideos.org/Comicalflop.html page already exists, yet it is mostly blank and is ready for editing, and additionally does not have any other sites that link to it, making it technically a wiki orphan... not needs to be "created" per se but "made" might be a better term. The list specifically says anyone (530) can edit homepages, but not all pages. (all; homepage | N;Y) Truncated already told me of the wariness of members creating deceving names to cause problems, so I'm aware of that danger. I was just noting that anyone (530) is listed as can edit homepages, but when I tried to do so couldn't.

mean people making forum names like that- ya I see your point. the list of permissions seems inaccurate, as I've spent about an hour noodling around and cannot do any editing of web pages to create/link to newly made pages, despite in the permission list players listed as able to edit homepages.

because of this, the changes listed don't seem to be implemented, specifically with non editor players unable to create their own homepages. unless there's a memo I'm missing, like a specific link or somewhere for players to create their own homepages.

I'm not sure, but it seems the 'anyone' create home page does not work yet, as in order to make any new webpages you need to be an editor. for example I tried visiting the url TASvideos.org/Comicalflop/html and got this, and when I tried to edit that page it said: Want to create it? [if:!UserIsLoggedIn]* If you are an editor, [log in] to edit the page. * If you are not an editor, become an [users|editor]. [endif][if:UserIsLoggedIn][if:!CanEditPages]* Become an [users|editor]. [endif][endif]* Click [[expr:WikiGetCurrentEditLink]|Edit this page]. * Write the page content, and click Save to create the page. Note: When creating new pages, always ensure that there is some other page that links to the newly created page. Otherwise your page will just become a [WikiOrphans|wiki orphan] that will be quickly forgotten. So has those changes not been implemented yet or is there a new way of making home pages?

Haha, cool, my gamepad is almost identical to yours. :) My roommate has that exact gamepad I think. Mine is a little special though, it has analog sticks and a program that assigns keys to the gamepad's buttons. :P But that gamepad is pretty close to the PS gamepad, so I think you'll like it.
I actually bought a Logitech gamepad that is pretty much the same setup as yours, with two analog sticks, a circular D-Pad, and 10 configurable buttons, 4 of them on the front side like in JXQ's. I actually find putting pause/unpause and Frame advance as two different buttons on the gamepad is very nice, since I use JoyToKey I can also use the kryboard to do those two things, since holding the frame advance button on the gamepad does not make it go in frame advance slow motion, wheras holding the keyboard key does. I love my gamepad, it is perfect for doing test runs/experimenting in real time with levels, and is essential for N64 games.

As mentioned somewhere in this site, explaining what TASes are, it mentioned some people think TASing makes us incapable of real time playing, listing Bisqwit as an example for Megaman. TASing sure did ruin my ability to play DKC2 in real time :P
